WSU at OSU

Final: OSU 5, WSU 3. OSU is fantastic hitting team. Make the slightest mistake, and they pound it.

Interesting score from O’Fallon, Mo. SIU defeats Missouri 2-1 in a wood bat game.

OSU 4, WSU 3 after seven: Jordy Mercer blasted a two-run homer to center to put OSU back on top. Mercer is 3 for 4 with a double and a home run and three RBIs.

WSU 3, OSU 2 going to the bottom of the seventh: Dirks homered again to give the Shockers a lead. Hoch is back out for his fourth inning. His longest previous outing is three innings at Kansas State and Nebraska. I would bet ideally WSU wanted to get another inning or two out of Kelley. The delay spoiled those plans.

WSU 2, OSU 2. WSU ties it, helped by two wild pitches by Gardner. Dusty Coleman, who doubled, scored the run. Logan Hoch is pitching for the Shockers.

We are a few minutes away from baseball. A sliver of the original crowd is back. The grounds crew is grooming the basepaths. The Shockers are swinging their bats and the Cowboys are taking the field. Matt Gardner, OSU’s starter, will remain in the game. WSU’s Ryan Jones is up to start the fourth.

The tarp is coming off under light rain and gray skies. Conor Gillaspie is the lone player brave enough to stand in the open and swing a metal bat. Now he is back in the dugout. Looks like we may resume in 20 or so minutes.

We are delayed about 45 minutes for a storm, with hail possible, that is on its way to Stillwater. The PA people are directing fans to shelter and the stadium is emptying in an orderly fashion. The Cowboys are putting down the tarp. Nothing coming down yet, but it must be on the way. Meteorologists, and perhaps WSU junior Conor Gillaspie, expect the front to pass in about 45 minutes.

OSU 2, WSU 1, after three: The Cowboys have five hits off starter Tim Kelley and all of them are ropes. Every time he leaves a pitch up, a hitter bangs a line drive.

WSU 1, OSU 0, after two: Andy Dirks led off the game with a home run to center.

Great crowd at Reynolds Stadium. The atmosphere is much livelier than in 2006. Good bunch of Shocker fans.

Thanks for the update about SIU. That is pretty cool that used the wood bats. I hope to see more of this in the future.
