No. 12 Villanova vs. No. 1 Kansas

HALFTIME, KU, 41-22

‘Nova finally scores again with 1:42 left - on a foul shot. Russell is long with a 3. Not much more action the remainder of the half - a couple of travels, a few fouls, and not much scoring. Tyrel Reed sighting. Case with a 3? Wow.

2:39 left in 1st half, KU, 38-21

Just when it looked like ‘Nova was getting back into the game, KU asserts itself again. How many times have we seen this? The lead was shaved to seven, 28-21, and then the Jayhawks ripped off eight straight points. And not conventional points, either. Those are back-breakers, and I seriously question whether ‘Nova has another run left. Dramatic? Yep, it’s what I do best. I just don’t see where the points are going to keep coming from. Meanwhile, it’s Chalmers with a runner, and it’s a 10-0 run.

9:25 left, KU, 28-16

Anderson came to play for ‘Nova. As did Russell Robinson, who buries another 3. Rush drops in a teardrop 3. It looks like a lonely seat over there for Self, but he has to be enjoying what he’s seeing. Clark shows some ability, and ‘Nova is within 9. Lob to Kaun - two points. Russell again for 3. That wasn’t the scouting report. He’s got 13 points, and he’s outscoring the Wildcats all by himself. Yikes. OK, where’s Scottie Reynolds? It’s already danger time for ‘Nova, and we haven’t even played 10 minutes. When KU is focused, look out. Hey, there’s Scottie - with a 3. He scores at the 10:07 mark. Man, Brandon is feeling it. And Mario hasn’t even scored yet. Reynolds with another 3.

15:51 left in 1st half, KU, 11-6

Nice uniforms for ‘Nova. Mesh - it breathes well. Airball for Reynolds, which isn’t good. Back-to-back misses for Reynolds. Cunningham breaks the seal, and then Robinson answers for KU with a 3. Self is barking at his guys. Meanwhile, Jay Wright still looks dreamy. He’s rocking a vest under his suit - nice touch. Pena drills a couple of free throws. Some trapping action, and just when I say that’s not going to work, they find one of the KU bigs - I think it was Arthur - for a lob. But ‘Nova battles back, but the Jayhawks always answer. Rush with a harsh bank job, but it falls. Russell goes glass for a lob to Rush, who slams it through. Bill Self is using a stool on the court. No energy in the Ford. We need these Wildcats to do something…
