Editor’s note: In preparation of the upcoming football season, K-Stated will look ahead to all 12 games on the Wildcats’ 2010 schedule. Next up, Central Florida.

Before Nebraska joins the Big 10 it must first finish out its final season in the Big 12.

It will be an interesting year for the Cornhuskers. Most college football experts have declared them the favorites to win the Big 12 North, and some are even predicting them to win the conference championship game.

With a strong defense returning, Nebraska has reason to be hopeful. But its final tour of the Big 12 won’t be as easy as a walk in the park. Opposing fans are going to treat the Cornhuskers poorly on their way out the door, and opposing teams will want to beat them one final time.

Now at the podium: Nebraska

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini put a damper on his press conference by saying he would not answer questions about leaving for the Big 10 Conference, but he still had some interesting things to say.

After pointing out several times that it’s “business as usual” at Nebraska, Pelini said he may think about how neat it could be to play Penn State and Michigan on a regular basis next year. But the Cornhuskers’ only focus this season is on the Big 12.

He believes the conference shift hasn’t hurt recruiting, and said that he’s “gotten a good response” from the players he’s targeting.

This week’s player to watch: Jared Crick

Everybody knows about Ndamukong Suh, the senior Nebraska defensive tackle who is a sure-fire bet to earn All-America status at the end of the season.

But the Cornhuskers have another defensive tackle who is pretty good, too. He actually leads the team in tackles with 60, four more than Suh.

His name is Jared Crick (pictured above on the right) and as a sophomore he has recorded nine sacks, 13 quarterback hurries and three pass breakups this season.
