Kansas State currently projected as No. 5 seed in NCAA Tournament

The latest round of NCAA Tournament projections are out, and while they don’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things, they start to become interesting this time of year.

Selection Sunday is six weeks away. As of now, the bracket experts agree Kansas State is headed for a No. 5 seed.

ESPN.com’s Joe Lunardi predicts that the Wildcats will be the No. 5 seed in the San Jose sub-regional, playing No. 12 Southern Mississippi in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament. A win there would advance them to the round of 32 where they would face Butler or South Dakota State.

Jerry Palm, of CBS Sports, predicts K-State to also be a No. 5 seed. But he has it headed for the Sprint Center, where it will take on the winner of a First Four game between Boise State and Maryland. A win there would advance the Wildcats to take on the winner of Louisville/Bucknell.

A win over Texas Tech today won’t have much of an impact on K-State’s NCAA Tournament seeding, but the next week might. After the Red Raiders, the Wildcats face Iowa State and Kansas in rematches against the two teams it has lost to in the Big 12.
