K-State has faced 4 of nation’s top 6 teams

Kansas State played too many directional schools early to rank near the top of college basketball’s strength-of-schedule rankings, but few teams have faced a stronger collection of highly ranked teams than the Wildcats.

Check out the latest AP top 25 poll (the top 15 are featured above) and you will see plenty of familiar K-State opponents.

There’s No. 2 Florida. There’s No. 3 Michigan. There’s No. 5 Kansas. And there’s No. 6 Gonzaga.

The Wildcats beat Florida at the Sprint Center, lost badly to Michigan and Gonzaga on neutral courts and fell in a close game to Kansas at home.

Jerry Palm, of CBS Sports, has K-State’s strength of schedule ranked 44th nationally. Most RPI calculations rate K-State’s schedule strength in the same area. But there’s no arguing that the Wildcats have played difficult games. Had they scheduled nonconference games against Indiana and Duke they would have played the entire top six.
