This time, it wasn’t just one player helping Rodney McGruder. Everyone pitched in.
Shane Southwell, Angel Rodriguez and Will Spradling all scored at least 12 points, and the Wildcats won their eighth-straight game. K-State will likely move into the top 15 when the national polls are released Monday.
That means Tuesday’s Sunflower Showdown at Bramlage Coliseum will be a matchup of highly ranked teams. First place in the Big 12 will also be on the line. K-State set up that matchup by handing Oklahoma its first conference loss on Saturday. Here’s a look back with player ratings:
Rodney McGruder — 9: K-State’s leading scorer was held scoreless for more than 13 minutes on Saturday. In the end, that didn’t matter. Once McGruder found the bottom of the net, he kept shooting it well and finished with 20 points. The senior wing played all 40 minutes and was once again the best player on the floor.
Last game: 9.5. Average: 9.12.
Shane Southwell — 8: Southwell delivered 10 of his 12 points in the first half when Oklahoma was clamping down on Rodney McGruder. He made sure the Wildcats stayed close until McGruder got going. Then K-State pulled away. He also did a nice job on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds.
Last game: 6. Average: 7.37.
