What’s next for Bryce Brown?

A close friend and former adviser of Wichita running back Bryce Brown says ESPN has “jumped the gun” with its report that Brown is leaning toward entering his name in the NFL draft as an early entrant.

Brian Butler told me this afternoon that Brown hasn’t made up his mind on what he will do next, but indicated he has four options in front of him.

1. Stop playing football.
2. Turn pro and try to make it in the NFL.
3. Return to Kansas State.
4. Transfer to a Division II school.

Butler said he has spoken with Brown recently, but doesn’t know what his final decision will be. He said he will pick one of the four options listed above by Tuesday. Why Tuesday?

“That’s the first day of classes for the spring semester,” Butler said.

The deadline for an early entrant to declare for the NFL draft is Sunday.

Brown is a former highly rated recruit out of East. He started his career at Tennessee and ran for 460 yards as a freshman before transferring to K-State. He played in three games for the Wildcats this year and was expected to make a big impact in the preseason. He ended up rushing for 16 yards on three carries. He had two memorable lowlights, including a fumble against Eastern Kentucky and a missed block against Miami.

Brown left the Wildcats after the Miami game. According to his brother, Arthur who is coming off a big season at linebacker, he spent the remainder of the fall semester in Tennessee. When asked about Bryce Brown’s future plans leading up to the Cotton Bowl, Arthur said he didn’t know what was next for his brother.
