K-State 31 UCLA 22; FINAL

Quick Scoring:

K-State answered the Bruin’s drive with a quick drive of their own. Travis Tannahill recovered the onside kick and two plays later, Daniel Thomas out ran everyone for his second touchdown of the game. The drive lasted only 38 seconds to secure the victory for the Wildcats.

After marching 64 yards in under a minute, the Bruins had a chance to tie the game with a two-point conversion. Bruin’s quarterback Kevin Prince rolled to his right, but the ball hit off the receiver’s hands. Dropped passes have really hurt the Bruin offense today.

Broderick Smith caught a low pass from Carson Coffman for the Wildcats’ first passing touchdown of the season. The score has given the Wildcats a big cushion late in the game and has also given the crowd more energy. Bill Snyder Family Stadium is loud right now.

Middle of the 4th Quarter:

UCLA had another quick drive that resulted in a Forbath field goal to cut the deficit to one.

Carson Coffman returned to the field for the Wildcats after going to the locker room earlier in the quarter. The first two plays were long runs first by Daniel Thomas and then William Powell. Powell has been a great second option for the Wildcats today averaging 12 yards per carry.

Early 4th Quarter:

Carson Coffman just jogged into the locker room for unknown reasons, and Collin Klein has entered the game at game at quarterback.

K-State just punted to UCLA, and the Bruins will start their drive at the 44-yard line.

End 3rd Quarter:

Daniel Thomas had a big run to get the Wildcats in the red zone, but K-State failed to score a touchdown. On third down inside the Bruin 10 yard line, the Wildcats lined up with five wide receivers. Quarterback Carson Coffman scrambled to find an opening, but was sacked for a big loss leaving Anthony Cantele with a 35 yard field goal.

After the field goal, it was announced that it is the largest crowd for a home opener in K-State’s history. There are even students sitting on the grass.

Middle of the 3rd Quarter:

UCLA kicker Kai Forbath nailed a 35 yard field goal to cap off a long drive. The Bruins dropped two big passes bailing K-State’s defense out. The Wildcats have struggled against UCLA’s no huddle offense, but managed to get a big third down stop.

K-State has found the answer to UCLA’s pass rush: Running the ball.

On their opening drive of the second half, Daniel Thomas took the ball up the right side on a pitch from Carson Coffman for a 44-yard gain. On the next play, William Powell came in and darted into the end zone from 28 yards out.

K-State now leads 14-10. Snyder Family Stadium is loud again.

Two fumbles and a sputtering offense have put a damper on the first half of Kansas State’s season-opening football game.

After a promising start that saw senior running back Daniel Thomas move the Wildcats down field for a quick touchdown, UCLA responded with a touchdown and a field goal to take a 10-7 halftime lead.

Thomas ran in a one-yard touchdown for the game’s opening score, and forced the Bruins to punt on their first four possessions. The soldout crowd at Snyder Family Stadium was rocking.

But then senior quarterback Carson Coffman fumbled a snap at the K-State 11-yard line, and UCLA took advantage. Kevin Prince ran untouched into the end zone on the next play.

K-State punted on its next possession, and UCLA responded with a 44-yard field from All-American kicker Kai Forbath.

The half came to a close with Coffman heaving an incomplete pass into the end zone. Thomas has 53 yards on 14 carries so far. Coffman has completed seven of 12 passes for 39 yards.

In the second half, Coffman needs to improve his play considerably. He looked confident and good on the first drive of the game, but he has thrown bad passes since.

It hurts that UCLA’s pass rush has been effective, but Coffman can counteract that with smarter decisions.
Middle of 2nd Quarter:

Kai Forbath hit a 44-yard field goal to give the Bruins the lead.

K-State quarterback Carson Coffman fumbled the snap deep in their own territory giving the ball back to the Bruins. UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince tricked the K-State defense and ran in for the touchdown on the first play of the series.

Early second quarter

The action has slowed here at Snyder Family Stadium. After a 7-0 start for K-State, Daniel Thomas has fumbled and both teams have exchanged punts.

UCLA just boomed a 60-yard punt down field that pinned the Wildcats at their own five-yard line.

It will be interesting to see how K-State responds to taking snaps so class to its own goal line.

Daniel Thomas fumbles on the Wildcats’ 39 yard line.

Kansas State 7 UCLA 0; 9:09 1st Quarter

Pregame:

We are about 15 minutes to kickoff here at Snyder Family Stadium, and it’s a beautiful day for football.

The Kansas State faithful is out in full force, and the atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a sellout crowd.

Both teams looked excited warming up. For UCLA, quarterback Kevin Prince and kicker Kai Forbath both took part in pregame drills. So it appears they will play.
