Cousins to Memphis

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, DeMarcus Cousins, the nation’s No. 2 player in the country per Rivals, has given a commitment to Memphis.

He was considering Kansas State. His coach at LeFlore High in Mobile, Ala., Otis Hughley, told K-Stated in late January that Cousins would possibly visit Manhattan, but that doesn’t seem likely now. Then again, Cousins was also committed to UAB, but waffled once the school wouldn’t agree to release Cousins from his letter of intent if coach Mike Davis wasn’t around.

Denis Clemente: Newcomer of Year

The Big 12 has announced its annual awards, and Kansas State junior guard Denis Clemente cleaned up. He was named Newcomer of the Year, in addition to being voted to the All-Big 12 second team. Plus, he was a member of the All-Rookie Team.

Sophomore guard Jacob Pullen was an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection. It’s the third year in a row that a Wildcat has been recognized on the first or second team – Cartier Martin (second team) in 2007, Michael Beasley (Player of Year, first team) in 2008, and Clemente this year.
