Goody and Cousins

Just received a text message from my buddy Jeff Goodman at foxsports.com. He took part in the NCAA’s mock selection of the field of 65, and he told me that, based on the current information, Kansas State was not included in the field.

The Wildcats were on the bubble, but the last ones in were Davidson, which is a bit surprising but not really when you consider how few victories of consequence Stephen Curry and Co. actually have, UNLV and Siena.

He said the entire bracket and his story, I believe, will be posted in the next few hours. That should be good stuff – Goodman does great work.

Also, hope you all read the fascinating update at gopowercat.com about DeMarcus Cousins. Good to see the connection between Cousins and Wally Judge mentioned. Because I’ve been teased here in the past for putting information out there and then when a kid doesn’t commit – Witherspoon, Kadji, etc. – it’s suddenly my fault. It’s fun for everyone, really. Anyway, when I was in Miami, I spoke a bit with Bruce Shingler, who is living with Michael Beasley and helping the Heat rookie on a daily basis in his ongoing transition the NBA.

Shingler was the head coach for three seasons at Bladensburg (Md.) High, where he coached Judge. The two are very close, communicating regularly. Shingler told me about Judge and Cousins speak all of the time, and how discussions about playing together have taken place – not only between those two, but also three-way conversations between Judge, Cousins and John Wall.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

Anyway, I put stock in Cousins’ interest because of the following bit of information – Cousins had been seeking Beasley’s ear on how time – likely a year – under Frank Martin at K-State prepared Beasley for the NBA.

Just figured I’d share what I knew. Or know.

Where am I? This alternate universe is lovely. All the colors are brighter, the sun warm on my back. I think I smell a bacon explosion in the oven. Next, my wife will ask me if it’s ok if we watch nothing but ESPN and Magnum PI reruns on TV, and my daughter will complain that she gets too much for an allowance.

“Don’t shoot the messenger”? I’m confused: Is that to suggest that Judge may try to back out of a signed LOI to play with the other two somewhere else, or that we shouldn’t hold it against you if all three didn’t end up in Manhattan? I can’t imagine anybody so rabid as to expect there’s a snowball’s chance of landing any more than just Judge.

I think there’s a reasonable chance of landing Cousins.

Jmart, where do we get the ’ship from?? aren’t we full or are some of the commits/signees qualifying risks?

I’m sure Merriwether and/or Awajii can be put on Academic scholarship, if necessary… thus freeing up possibly two schollie’s.
