Kind of off topic, but worth a look

I did cover the Big 12 women’s basketball media day in Oklahoma City, but no, I don’t cover women’s basketball.

With that said, Kansas State just launched a Web site that is pretty cool. It’s all about Shalee Lehning, and it’s called “The Shalee Element.”

Couple of quick points - Shalee’s mom, Jane, e-mailed me last year to request more coverage for the women, and I became a fan - of Jane. She’s a nice lady. From what I hear about Shalee, and now from what I read, she’s a tremendous player. Kathy McConnell-Miller, the coach at Colorado, told me in OKC that if she start a team with anyone in the country, she’d start with Shalee.

That’s kind of cool. And props to K-State for doing this. But where was this for Mike Beasley? Guess he already got enough national pub.

i support all of k-state’s teams and watch women’s basketball and volleyball when they’re on television. as it relates to Shalee, she had a crappy game overall last night against Northwestern but turned it on at the end and won us the game. i guess that’s what all-american’s do.

    also very cute.

Not sure why this is any more “off topic” than the “report” of your Heisman vote ???

Something like this for Beasley would have been awfully presumptuous. At this same point last season, Beasley was playing his second game of his career. Lehning is a SR, so there was a history to work with. The atheletic department did similar campaigns for both Jordy Nelson and Darren Sproles in the past. I guess they could have put something together for Beasley toward the end of the year, but generally these things are supposed to create buzz for players who aren’t getting the hype. By the time K-State realized what they had in Beasley, the whole country knew.

Feelings are hurt Jane thought lost year’s coverage was insufficient.

JMart: You are the KSU beat writer, so shouldn’t your job include reporting on ALL KSU sports? Why was the coverage of KSU WBB beating Northwestern a day late and barely mentioned?

Good question david! Yeah Jeff, why don’t you report more on the rowing or equestrian teams!?
