When you look closely at a media guide.
Take Kansas State’s, for instance. All sorts of interesting nuggets in there, and I’ll share with you some of what I found fascinating:
- Tight end Brett Alstatt is still at K-State. I had no idea.
- Offensive lineman Clyde Aufner was nicknamed “The Diesel” while playing at Missouri’s Ray-Pec High.
- Defensive lineman Vlad Faustin has a second-degree black belt in karate.
- Defensive back Otis Johnson’s cousin is former NBA Slam Dunk champ and current member of the Houston Rockets, Gerald Green.
- Offensive lineman Zach Kendall participated in a show choir while a student at Missouri’s Harrisonville High.
- Offensive lineman Kenneth Mayfield is the nephew – through marriage – of WNBA legend Lisa Leslie.
- Defensive back Josh Moore, who is from Pompano Beach, Fla., is attending K-State despite receiving an offer – albeit a late offer – from Florida State. His other offers? Akron and Louisiana-Lafayette.
- Offensive lineman Gerard Spexarth got hitched this past summer to former K-State women’s basketball player Carolyn McCullough. Think their kids will be Wildcats?
- Running back Jarell Childs has a brother, Jaron Baston, who plays for Mizzou.
And finally, first-year quarterback Collin Klein was also a basketball player at Colorado’s Loveland High. But did you realize his other hobbies include playing the piano, violin and mandolin?

My buddy directs the music program/show choir at Harrisonville High. He probably knows Zach pretty well. Interesting….
