Vote early and often

From Kansas State’s sports information department:

To help celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kansas State football’s number one season, kstatesports.com is allowing fans to vote on the Top 10 moments of the 1998 season.

The K-State athletic department has narrowed the list to 20 of the greatest moments of the 1998 team, with full descriptions and videos of each moment provided at the website. Voting is available now, with the number 10 moment being revealed the week of September 1 and culminating with the November 15 unveiling of the top moment of the 1998 season.

Players featured among the nominees include 2008 Ring of Honor inductees: David Allen, Martin Gramatica and Mark Simoneau. Also included are Eric Hickson, Michael Bishop and Darnell McDonald.

The Wildcats will open their 2008 season Saturday, August 30, at home against North Texas. The contest, which will feature the 2008 Ring of Honor class induction and 1998 Team Reunion, will kick at 6:05 p.m.

For the record, I wholeheartedly endorse this promotion. Great work by the school trying to play up the 10-year anniversary of that magical season. Thing is, though, I wasn’t around then.

Enlighten me. What was the best moment and why?

the best moment was clinching an undefeated regular season, on the road vs a ranked Mizzou team.

What happened the next week would make 9/11 look like just another day.

agree, that Mizzou game was pretty cool. If I remember right, we were pretty dinged up at RB and were playing our 4th string guy for a good part of the game. At the time, I believe it was the largest crowd to see a game in Columbia in 20-30 years since Notre Dame visited ranked #1.

Best moment was when UCLA lost to Miami while K-State was in control late in the Big 12 game. We were going to the national championship. No doubt in my mind.

Murphy recovering his own fumble in the endzone for a TD was probably the biggest play for the entire season.

But four or five of the top plays had to come in the NU game.

My biggest moment was rushing the field (3 times) when we beat Nebraska!

Yes is correct once again. UCLA losing set off an incredible INCREDIBLE celebration.

We led A&M 17-3 at that point.

college game day being at the NU game was fairly awesome. but miami losing and knowing ksu was headed to the national championship game was the happiest single sports moment of ‘98…a little over 30 minutes later the saddest single sports moment occurred.

Had to be the face mask penalty on Crouch that wasn’t called. He about got his head jerked off!

Big Ern called it. The break we got on the face mask made the season to that point.

The interception return for a TD late in the NU game (can’t remember who it was offhand) was the ultimate. We knew 30 years of frustration was over then. I’m amazed I can’t remember who it was who ran that back… I was on the sidelines at the time and he knocked me down :)
I was also on the sidelines in St. Louis during the OT… Sirr Parker did NOT get into the end zone on that touchdown.
Of course, the way K-State was playing at the time, he would have the next play.
