In appreciation of Kansas State women’s basketball

Never thought I’d be typing those words – hey, I’m being honest here – but one must give credit where it’s due. And based on the sports information release that swept into my in-box last night, it’s time to acknowledge how hard these young ladies not only work on the court but especially in the classroom.

Here’s the first couple of paragraphs from that release:

Kansas State women’s basketball continues to be recognized for its excellence in the classroom, as the team finished second in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll on Tuesday morning. K-State was the only Big 12 member to appear in the ranking.

As a team, K-State registered a 3.652 team GPA and finished second among NCAA Division I schools to South Dakota State, who tallied a 3.669 team GPA. The GPA for the Wildcats is the fourth-highest in the history of the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll.

This is the fourth time K-State has appeared in the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll. The last time K-State appeared in the ranking came at the conclusion of the 2002-03 season with a second place finish with a GPA of 3.490. The other two seasons came in 1997-98 (19th) and in 1998-99 (20th).

Well done, women. Well done.

3.652 that is really good considering the amount of time they practice/travel. I’m impressed.
