No Facebook for Ron Prince

USC coach Pete Carroll accepted my friend request last week. Colorado coach Dan Hawkins accepted my request this morning.

So I wondered – why doesn’t Ron Prince have a Facebook account? I texted the Kansas State coach and asked.

His response should endear him to the Wildcat fans who are hopeful/anxious for the 2008 season:

“To be honest, I don’t want to do one unless I can do it well and we have so many other things going. Probably will someday, but not right now.”

A few Facebook-related items:

- Carroll has so many “friends” – 4,989 at last count – that he has asked interested parties to become “fans” of his. Actually, he wants all interested parties to join his fan page because he can’t accept any more friends. And yes, he does update his own account.

The man is a rock star.

- As for Hawkins, well, he’s trying. He has 235 friends, but what I found particularly useful/interesting was a link to the man’s personal Web site, coachhawkins.com. Fantastic blog stuff, including a somewhat poignant list of 33 things he’s learned “after being in the kid business for 25 years and watching the last one graduate.”

- I was disappointed to find out Texas Tech coach Mike Leach isn’t involved. This needs to happen.
