There isn’t even a category heading as I type this, so I don’t where it should go. This is something of a groundbreaking moment here at K-Stated. I believe, and someone can feel free to prove me wrong if they are so inclined, this is the first non-basketball or football post on this blog.
But it’s a good cause.
The third annual Earl Woods Memorial Golf Marathon is being held Saturday, May 31, at Colbert Hills Golf Course. The marathon, in which participants are expected to complete 100 holes of golf, will raise money for the Earl Woods Youth Academy, The First Tee of Manhattan and also for a future endowed baseball scholarship in honor of Woods, a 1953 graduate of K-State, the first black baseball player in the Big Seven Conference and also a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army.
And he’s Tiger Woods’ father.
The Youth Academy is a cool idea. It’s designed to allow young people an opportunity to learn the sport, and along the way, they’re also taught life and leadership skills.
“We’re just trying to take (Woods’) caring and sharing philosophy and impart it on the community,” said Jon Kropilak, executive director of The First Tee of Manhattan.

From the words of Happy Gilmore…”that is wicked cool!”
Actually didn’t know Earl was a Wildcat.
FYI
Interfaith housing services here in Hutchinson just completed the 14th annual 100 hole golf marathon, of which I have particapated in the last 9. My golf partner the last three years just celebrated his 80th birthday. Good Luck to all participants. Remember the first 50 holes are fun, the last 50 holes are work!
