Henriquez and Kelly

ACCORDING to gopowercat.com, Portchester (N.Y.) center Jordan Henriquez is planning on attending Kansas State next season. On Thursday, sources indicated to K-Stated — I’ve been meaning to attribute any piece of pertinent information in that way for some time now — that Henriquez was prepared to sign his letter of intent and fax it to K-State on Wednesday, the last day of the signing period, but the letter never made its way to Manhattan. It’s unclear if today’s news is that Henriquez did indeed send his letter, or if he decided after Wednesday.

If so, he’ll sign a non-binding financial aid agreement with K-State. And it’s not clear if he has qualified in order to be eligible next season, either.

Henriquez is a 6-foot-11, 215-pound prospect who, according to Scout.com national recruiting editor Dave Telep, is all upside.

“He’s a big, long kid, a guy you have to bring along slowly,” Telep said. “Maybe you redshirt him. He won’t be ready to play in the Big 12 as a freshman. Size matters, and he’s got it. You take a flier on a kid like him. He needs to work on everything, but you’re not taking him to play him 20 minutes in the Big 12 next year.

“Hopefully he plays 15 minutes (a game) for you down the road.”

SPOKE to Patterson School coach Chris Chaney today. I asked him about a couple of his former players, current Wildcats Jamar Samuels and Dominique Sutton:

“I think (Jamar) will be a good rotation guy. Dominique, with Mike (Beasley) gone, some guys will need to step up. I think he could be one of those guys. He knew he wasn’t supposed to score this year. Trust me, he can do a lot of things people haven’t seen. He’s a better scorer than he’s shown. He can be a leader on the court. I don’t think K-State knows who the go-to guys will be next year, but he has the ca-pabilities to be one of them.”

CURTIS Kelly has only one other visit lined up right now, a trip to UNLV in either a week or two weeks. The 6-foot-9 forward who is transferring from UConn admitted K-State was probably in the lead for his services — “I like K-State a lot,” he said Friday — but he also plans to take his time with this decision.

A decision likely won’t be made before mid-June, he said.

“This is the second time and there are no second chances,” Kelly said. “I have to try to pick what’s best for me.”

Kelly visited K-State recently with Henriquez. The two played one season together at Rice High, and here’s Kelly take on Henriquez:

“He’s versatile. He’s kind of slim right now. He won’t be ready to bang yet. Once he gains weight, he should be O.K. He can put the ball on the floor and he can shoot it. He’s skilled.”

So, I asked, he’ll be decent for K-State?

“He should be more than decent,” Kelly said. “He’s going to be a player.”

So is he a high school player? If he’s in the class of 2008, how is that working scholly-wise? Is this the final confirmation that Hoskins is done at KSU AND Walker is going pro?

Seelz, Hoskins is finished, officially. Going to try to play in Europe apparently.
