Henriquez and Kelly

ACCORDING to gopowercat.com, Portchester (N.Y.) center Jordan Henriquez is planning on attending Kansas State next season. On Thursday, sources indicated to K-Stated — I’ve been meaning to attribute any piece of pertinent information in that way for some time now — that Henriquez was prepared to sign his letter of intent and fax it to K-State on Wednesday, the last day of the signing period, but the letter never made its way to Manhattan. It’s unclear if today’s news is that Henriquez did indeed send his letter, or if he decided after Wednesday.

If so, he’ll sign a non-binding financial aid agreement with K-State. And it’s not clear if he has qualified in order to be eligible next season, either.

Stuff (05/23)

Former Virginia defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald, of whom Ron Prince said Thursday via e-mail that Kansas State was “confirming that we are recruiting Jeffrey,” finally breaks his silence. I wasn’t aware he was recovering from several injuries.

Also, because I find these lists amusing/fascinating, Dennis Dodd breaks out his annual look at coaches on the hot seat. On a scale of 0-0.5 (can’t be touched) to 5 (on the hot seat – time to win now), Mr. Prince, who is 12-13 in two seasons at Manhattan, checks in at 3.5, which translates in Dodd’s ratings key to “on the bubble – you never know.” Interesting to note there are four Big 12 coaches – Bob Stoops, Mack Brown, Mark Mangino and Bo Pelini – considered untouchable. The first three are understandable, as is Pelini, mainly because he’s new and it’s Nebraska. Now, I realize Baylor isn’t Nebraska, but why is first-year coach Art Briles, at 1.5, only categorized as “very safe, change unlikely”? I mean, if the Bears have another losing record, would the administration in Waco contemplate whacking Briles?

Discuss.
