This isn’t a “Mama Sayz” because she hasn’t written for a while. She’s a slacker. And if you see her, tell her as much.
For real, I just finished talking to Ms. Smith, a.k.a. Michael Beasley’s mother, and she told me some interesting things, some things that might have slipped through the cracks. Or, OK, some things I may have ignored in my KU-induced stupor:
- Did you know this existed? Looks fascinating. Ms. Smith said she wasn’t sure if her son was planning on attending the premiere or not.
- She said Mike was training in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey - she wasn’t sure. He said the first day was easy, but ever since, it’s been painful.
- Bill Walker has more or less cut off contact with everyone, apparently focused on his upcoming workouts for NBA decision-makers.
- Expect some news in the first couple of weeks of May regarding potential endorsement deals for Beasley. Ms. Smith wouldn’t bite on whether Lil’ Mike was leaning towards a more traditional shoe company - i.e. Nike or adidas - or a non-traditional - i.e. Under Armour. She said the money was obviously a factor, but the marketing deal was more important.
- And she’s still in Manhattan, which comes as a surprise to many strangers she encounters. For the record, she said she’s still planning to write “Mama Sayz.” We’ll see…

There is a thread about the movie on ksufans. It looks good. Has Bill cut contact w/ the coaching staff too? When are the work outs finished?
Thanks, JMart. I was wondering when we’d hear something from Mama. I do hope she continues to write Mama Sayz and keeps the KState family up-to-date with all things Mike.
Barn, O.G.
Wow on Walker-Gotta love his passion for the game.
I am glad to hear that things are going good for Mike and please keep us updated!
Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat
any thoughts on what may happen with bill? i’m wondering how high he can go. there is a particularly huge class entering the draft this year. he can look so great at times, and pretty rough at others. i assume cutting off contact means no chance he’ll come back though, eh?
Bill is a pro. He’s gone.
Well we decided to “use” a scholarship on Abdul Herrera. Very suprised and dissapointed we didnt get someone with a little more productive past and let this guy grab a walk-on title. Hope we get a couple more studs in 2009. Heard we are in the hunt for some guy named Latovouis Williams (something like that). Apparently he is an athletic freak. Add him and jeff reid, and 2009 could be a top 5 class.
