If Martin gets KSU back to the tourney next year then KSU needs to sweeten his deal. Next year is what a lot of us were waiting for, knowing that Mike would be gone and a chance Nill is as well...now how good of a coach is Martin? We'll find out. Personally I hope we have to sweeten that deal A LOT!

I think this is correct and should be until the end of the 09-10' season. If he is successful, up it and or retropay him like the deal for this year.
"Frank Martin is being paid $760,000 per year, which puts him in the lower tier of Big 12 coaches."

"..., but based on 2007-08 compensation, Martin probably ranked fifth or sixth in pay."

Jeff, I don't see how the two can be reconciled! If he's in the lower tier, wouldn't that be 7-12? Then you say he's probably at fifth or sixth!? I'm so confused...

Bargain? How can we tell? I think we need to see at least another year before we talk about sweetening any deal. I'm all for Frank and I hope he succeeds, but he's still very much an unknown commodity.

I'm happy that they got the deal done and I think the contract dollar amount is fair. Meaning not too high, not too low. Just about right as far as I'm concerned.

I think Frank proved his worthiness as a head coach in certain game situations this year. Of course, it's not rocket science to go offense/defense when your star is in foul trouble. The handling of Walker at Nebraska was the right move, even if it cost us the game. I personally like the fire he brings to the bench.

I think incentives for winning should be part of the package. Bonuses for winning the Big 12 or making the sweet 16 should be involved.

As far as recruiting, it's a wait and see approach. I think he had more to do with Beasley and Walker coming to K-State than Huggs and Hill as a partner is a great combination on the recruiting trail.

I think it was the right move for State and am actually excited about KSU basketball. Now, about Ron Prince......

I'm with stevedave. They should have announced an extension/raise for Te. Frank's getting paid the same as Prince. It's neither a bargain or a burden at this point.

A more important question is where does 'Te rank with assistants in all of basketball. Because if it's not in the top 5% or so we need to get something done. Can assitants have buyouts?

bargain? i don't know about that. if he is in the top half of the conference in pay, that seems pretty high to me for a coach with no head coaching experience. i find it very difficult to rate if the season was a success or not. of course, as a fan, it was the most fun season we've had as long as i've been around k-state (my freshman year was 1996... our last tourney appearance). but at the same time, we have to freshmen good enough to declare for the draft... one of which is sure to be a top 2 pick. and we squeaked into the tourney. we had two huge wins (ku and usc) a few good ones (ou, mizzou part 2, cal, a&m part 1), and a ton of losses that never should have been.

i think we're in a good spot with martin where we are. we need to wait and see what happens without beasley and walker... can he deliver more recruits and can we win with them?

i just don't see martin as having earned more than he is getting... yet.
