Blake Young says…

He’s probably going to get a crack at O.J.

Thoughts? That’s all I’ve got on the subject.

Do you think Floyd will even bother putting a defender on anyone else besides Beasley?

    That’s it on what subject?

    My thoughts?

Blake should have been on the all-defensive team in the Big 12.

i hope pullen plays more than stew, too…

KSU played really good defense on DJ Augustine…Augustine is much tougher than Mayo, imo.

Mayo will torture Blake. Blake will do okay, but he won’t be able to slow Mayo down. Thats almost laughable.
I see Floyd going Box and 1 on Beasley eventually. I think his ego won’t let him start with Box and 1, but thats what he will resort too. Why not, especially if Bill is a no show again.

Frank better put Sutton on Mayo.

Augustin had 24 points. Yeah, he had 5 turnovers, but still, 24 points does not equal good defense.

yea, but those 24 points were quiet points. not like they made a difference in the game.

yeah, if texas would’ve been w/out those 24 points they still would’ve beat us…
sheesh, of course they made a difference.

Augustin was taking ridiculously tough shots…he just made them, it doesn’t mean the defense was bad. First team All-American’s are funny like that. You can play them pretty well and they can still get a lot of points.

Has watching Mike Beasley taught you nothing?

young is a better defender than sutton. i also don’t discount stewart. he has the length.

on the other hand, sutton is certainly the most disruptive defender ksu has. i haven’t seen usc play, so i really don’t know enough to make a prediction. if mayo usually comes down the court w. the ball in his hands and usc plays fairly uptempo, then sutton might be a good option. i’d trust him on ball and for short periods of time. he certainly has the length and the footspeed to deny mayo open looks from 20+.

if usc runs clock, then it might be hard for sutton. he’ll make mistakes if usc wants to wait for them.

their bigs are pretty scary too, btw. i’m not sure shutting down mayo is the key to victory.

I didn’t think too many of Augustin’s shots were that spectacular. He had a some layups, some tear drops, some runners…not anything out of the ordinary. It won’t matter anyways. KSU is an average, at best, team and has been that way for over a month.

I think USC is bouncy and long in the frontcourt. I covered the USC-KU game in the Galen Center in Dec. and I thought Jefferson was outstanding. O.J. was OK, but you know he’s going to get his numbers. I think the key is, you want to make him work on the other end as well, but I don’t see any of K-State’s guards doing that – with the exception of Jake, and who knows how much he’ll play. Earlier in the season, O.J. was playing too many minutes. He’s a talent, no doubt, but I think Blake will be O.K. Personally, I think it’s going to be a defensive struggle. Have to crash the glass Thursday, for sure.

    Hey –

What do you make of Sutton playing a ton at Iowa State and then all but disappearing against A&M?

Sutton made one mistake on offense and then rode the pine the rest of the game. Meanwhile, we’re running set 3 point plays for Walker, a guy who couldn’t hit the broad side of the Sprint Center from anthing outside of 12ft. Another game full of brilliant coaching moves by Frank and terrible shooting by his team.

USC will play a box and one on MB the entire game. It will force the rest of our team to bring their “A” game. If they do, watch out – sky’s the limit! If they don’t, is there a sub-basement at the Qwest Center?

rebounding is the key. They don’t shoot all that well. can’t give the extra chances. I like sutton with a bunch of minutes to give us a rebounding edge.

I don’t necessarily think were looking at a defensive struggle, but I think defense will be key. It should be one of those games where you should be able to say USC simply won’t be able to score enough points to stay in it with K-State, but because the excellent defensive play we saw from K-State early in 2008 has vanished, I think we better hope for a high scoring affair and make USC try to keep up. If it turns in to a game in the 50’s or low 60’s, we’d be playing right in to their game and we’re doomed. If we can get our average points, somewhere in the mid 70’s, I think it’s ours. Of course that means more than 3 field goals from players not named Beasley.
