Stuff

There’s football news from the sports information staff at K-State:

Kansas State senior Ian Campbell is one of 54 players nationally and six from the Big 12 Conference named to the 2008 Rotary Lombardi Award preliminary watch list, the Rotary Club of Houston announced.

Campbell, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, enters his senior season as one of the top defensive linemen in school history and currently has 16.0 sacks and 28.5 tackles for loss over the last two seasons. The Cimarron, Kan., native tied the single-season school record with 11.5 sacks in 2006 and currently needs just two more sacks to enter the school’s top 10 career list.

So there’s that.

Plus, I’m in Manhattan right now, and I was in the basketball office earlier today. I know Matt Figger was at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn., recently for the JUCO Region VII tourney – where, I believe, one Tyree Evans was playing for Motlow State – and also in Wichita for the Region VI tourney. Frank Martin was also at Koch Arena yesterday. The target, presumably, is Cowley County’s Montrell McDonald, who had 17 points and nine rebounds in his team’s victory against Coffeyville.

If you want to hear more about K-State’s recruiting – as well as a wide range of other topics – check kansas.com Thursday for my extensive Q&A with Frank. I’m not a self-promoter, by any means, but it’s good stuff. What doesn’t make the cut I’ll post here tomorrow.

Q&A w/ Frank? He can’t talk about recruits, is it going to just be a hodge podge of KSU info + a Q&A + recruiting info? or just him talking about the directions recruiting is going? Call Tyree again, and give me some Manzano info.
    …Pretty please.

I assume the interview went something like this –

“You know, we’re looking at a lot of kids right now but, you know, not all of them will pan out. You know we’re also looking at some, you know, kids that we didn’t think possible before. I don’t want to sound too Bold & Daring you know, but it could be a good class”

This is going to be excellent I can already tell. Also, you should do a “Five On It” with someone from Jucojunction given the direction of our remaining recruiting class since they can actually talk about recruits.

What we need is an athletic big for the middle to bang around for rebounds. Anderson is going to need a break next year. Do you think Colon will come along?

jthutch just completely blowing off Kent like he sucks. Earth to jthutch, Kent will be tres-importante next season (tres-importante is made up but completely plausible foreign sounding word)

I think Kent will be huge, but Anderson will be being groomed to step up as a post too. I think Anderson could be more “tres importante.” I would love some servicable center to magically fall into our graces. How bad does Herrera suck?

Herrera is tearing it up in the juco ranks.

At first I thought you were kidding. He doesn’t play much, but has the best fg% on the team. For his minutes his rebounds are as good as Bowmans’ but can he put in quality time in the Big12 and last if he can’t do it in JUCO?

I didn’t blow off Kent but I don’t see him as a post player he is more of a swing man. Yes he is 6′10″ but he will need to bulk up a little to be a full time post player. He is one of my favorite players on the team but he is almost a 3-4 type of guy.

Kent, Luis, and a half-cripple Herrrerrra at the 5. Next year will be amazing.

Samuals may also help alieviate some of the rebounding issue, I almost forgot about him.
