Post-mortem, Colorado (03/05)

I’m going to start on an unconventional note. I love how Blake Young plays. He’s not perfect, not by any stretch, but he gives maximum effort. He was solid last night, hitting a big 3 in the second half.

It has to be said - does K-State lose if Bill doesn’t play as well as he did? How many more dramatic turns can this season take? At this point, is it even possible or realistic to guess what will transpire Saturday in Ames?

Bill is a proud kid. I think he’ll finish the season strong, just as strong as last night, and ride that momentum into declaring for the NBA Draft. That’s my hunch. But that doesn’t matter right now - the Wildcats are likely in the NCAA Tournament, and I’m surprised by some of the negativity I’ve seen in my in-box.

K-State wasn’t impressive last night. Things need to get better in a hurry, no doubt. But how can you fear any team when, as CU coach Jeff Bzdelik and Buffaloes guard Richard Roby said, the Wildcats have two pros on the team? Especially in an elimination tournament? Once you’re in, weird things tend to happen.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks in March.

Way to early to count K-State in the NCAA tourney.
K-State’s RPI is 45 as of last night’s games.

Lose to ISU and that likely will drop to the 50’s. A first round bye will rob of us of another W. Lose to an A&M or OU in the first round of the B12 tourney and that puts us at 4-8 in the last 12 games. That won’t make the NCAA tourney. I don’t think this TEAM is playing like an NCAA tourney team. Win the next two and they’re in.

I love me some Bill Walker. Almost more than I love me some me. But his game is limited now. You have to do one thing great to make it in the NBA or do a lot of things really well..ala Brandon Roy. He cant shoot. He cannot post up over bigger players. And for some reason he doesnt take the ball on the edge and explode ala Vince Carter. If he declares i bet he ends up in the NBDL for a few years. He is not NBA ready now.

I still don’t buy walker as an nba ready guy right now. At his size he will have to develop a more consistant shot, he won’t be able to post up guys in the nba like he does in the big 12.

If we want to make it to the tourney our guards must step up and start knocking down shots. If they do that we have some big upside, if not I doubt we win the next 2.

J-Mart, I agree with you about Blake Young. Although there’s some things not to like about his game, he is ALWAYS hustling out there. The entire team looked exhausted last night except for Blake.

I have no idea what’s going to happen Saturday but it doesn’t look good right now.

I think we’re in the tournament. Having the first day off in the tournament will help us just like it did last year.

Bill Walker is headed to the And 1 tour. Mark it down.

I can venture a guess if we play on Saturday like we did last night:

We get our a**** handed to us in Ames. Just a guess.

Totally agree on Blake Young. He’s really settled in and embraced his role this year. The man goes after loose ball rebounds like a herd of drunken hobos racing for the last spot in the soup line.
