I haven’t read any message boards or really talked to anyone about this game. I do know that several of the beat writers, myself included, can’t remember seeing a game like this, where two guys get 75 points but it’s not enough to win.
Guess that makes my point for me, on a couple of levels. I like the conscious decision to get Mike and Bill involved - as you know by now, I’m not a huge advocate of balanced scoring - but it can’t be done at the expense of the other three guys on the court being a bunch of extras. Guys still need to not only take shots but make shots.
It’s another road loss, but Frank was almost encouraged by what he saw. Can’t argue - the will was there. Baylor’s guards are a handful - and then some. That’s an impressive group, and they’re only losing Aaron Bruce next year. The Bears will be the dark-horse to win the Big 12 next season - you heard it hear first.
Still, K-State is in decent shape. This is a NCAA tournament team right now - I think two more wins locks up a berth. Don’t even start with the bubble talk - the only thing happening right now is jockeying for seeding. The Wildcats are in.
As funny as it sounds, Mike is right - the Wildcats still control their own destiny, in a sense. I mean, if K-State beat Texas and KU this week, the Wildcats would still need the Longhorns to lose again in order to be in first place.
And that might be far-fetched. Some positives to be gleaned: much, much better focus and energy. Frank said the goal was to work the ball inside, but it almost felt as if the guards clung too much to that directive.
I won’t be making predictions anymore - you’ll see why when you read “Mama Sayz” later this afternoon - but I think the Cats are going to be fine. This has been a process, and the lessons continue.

I agree the guys looked much better. Have you got word if Sutton’s knee was still bothering him? he didn’t get much playing time. It would have been nice to have had him playing on Jerrells in the 2nd half. It was nice to see Ron Anderson get some quality minutes as well. He’s going to be a good one for the cats in the future. I think the Future is bright for the wildcats.
Thanks for the update JMart. Encouraging words were needed right now. Its hard watching a promising season slip away, or atleast it feels that way now.
If we can get Texas tomorrow, I will feel much better about everything.
I’ve written this before, but I’ll mention it again: figuring Beasley and Walker are gone after this season, I think I and many fans were hoping for more - even though we’re getting a lot right now, even if we don’t recognize it all, just yet. Losing Mike and Bill will hurt the team next season, even though there are some really good players returning (hopefully) and coming into the program. The learning process of this season is frustrating because the 2008-09 team will be so different and many of us are unsure of what to expect next season, with such a different team dynamic.
Agree, much much more energy. Baylor just knocked down more shots. Stew really needs to step up down the stretch, he hasn’t played the same since he lost his mom.
I felt like Baylor won that game more than the Cats lost it. They hit shots down the stretch. Beasley looked tired at the end missing bunnies. When they are draining 3’s and you’re missing layups, you are going to struggle to win. The stat thing that stands out the most to me is that Mike didn’t hit a FG for the last 16 minutes. When you score can be just as, if not more important than how much you score.
