My take, Nebraska (02/20)

I don’t see what Nebraska can do differently against Kansas State that is going to make a difference. That said, the road factor for the Wildcats can’t be overlooked. It’s very real, and it’s something this team is going to have to conquer.

Is this the week? With what happened to Baylor last night, you’d have to think the timing couldn’t be better. Take care of business tonight and move on to Saturday.

I like going with the three guards to complement Bill and Mike. Each guard provides something different, and Jake is usually able to penetrate and kick. I like the pressure that three-guard lineup presents – and let’s not forget where this is leading:

Baylor on Saturday, Texas on Monday and then KU next Saturday.

All three of those teams have exceptional sets of guards, so this could be viewed as the final exam for K-State’s backcourt. Guard play always dictates how far teams go in March. And that’s where the season is, right? The talk about the postseason is real. The Wildcats will be playing meaningful games in March, which is tremendous.

But there’s business to attend to tonight.

Maric is going to get his. Just limit everyone else. No, you can’t let the big man get 40, but he’s not going to match what Mike gets. Make him work, make him get up and down the floor. Now, Doc’s Huskers are going to get in you. They defend, but that’s nothing K-State isn’t used to. The key tonight is maintaining poise and, when the time is right, recognizing and applying the finishing blow. Sounds like psycho-babble, I know, but that’s the only thing holding these players back.

Their heads.

From a talent standpoint, the Wildcats are as good as anyone. It’s just a matter of realizing that and maximizing this moment. Easier said than done, I’m afraid.

But I like the Wildcats by a decent margin tonight, despite the “Red Out.”

PREDICTION: K-State 79, Nebraska 65

They will have to play with a lot more intensity and not let Nebraska jump out to an early lead like Tech did. We can score in bunches but if we have to make up 22 points again that is a draining task and I don’t know if we can do it on the road. My personal opinion is we should half court trap for the first 5 to 10 mins. of the game and apply tremendous pressure. Do not allow them to shoot any 3’s and make it hard to get the ball to Maric.

i would love to see us pressing from the get-go. inject a sense of urgency from the tip. we need to swarm to the ball, defensively, and get out and run, offensively. sadler will try to keep this game in the low 30’s. hopefully the cats keep the offensive machine moving…

J-Mart, you underestimate the red-out! There are going to be literally HUNDREDS of students there and the place will be rocking. The -4 degree temperature just psyches the Corn fans up even further. Probably one of the toughest environments the Cats will face all year.

Until this team can prove they are winners on the road I can’t predict a win tonight. There will likely be foul problems, poor shooting, a Nubb player will go “lights out”, and Maric will shoot 20 free throws. NU 71 KSU 66

It’s 8 bells and no in game scoring box on the eagle sports page. What gives? It’s on the KCStar web page, so it has to be up and running. Get on them JMart, don’t let them slight our cats.
