My take, Nebraska (02/06)

There won’t be a repeat of last Saturday, and besides, Kansas State plays terrific at home. Plus, with the emotion stemming from the passing of Clent Stewart’s mother, the atmosphere could be charged - even for a mid-week, non-rival game.

I have no sense one way or the other if Clent will play. That’s his decision, and this has to be a difficult time for Stew, who has always been class. He should be allowed to take as much time as needed, and that’s probably what Frank has told him.

Then again, don’t be surprised to see him playing tonight.

Nebraska is a defense-first basketball team, but the Cornhuskers don’t have the horses. It’s weird to be saying because think back to where K-State was a month ago - unsure of itself just days after that debacle in Cincinnati - but if the Wildcats treat every opponent as a worthy foe, they’re fine.

As talented as this team is, it’s still not good enough to simply show up and win games. There aren’t too many that can.

Missouri was another lesson learned. Frank talked about this team dealing with success, and that was a prime example of how NOT to deal with success. Expect a much more focused K-State team tonight. I think Mike and Bill combine for 50-plus points, which might be nearly enough alone to beat the Corn. Aleks Maric might get 20, but I think the Wildcats will stifle his teammates.

PREDICTION: K-State 77, Nebraska 64
