Wesley Witherspoon

Just spoke with Will Witherspoon, the father of Wesley Witherspoon, the 6-foot-8 wing from Berkmar High in Lilburn, Ga. Maybe this will put to rest the on-again, off-again nature of the K-State recruiting news surrounding his son:

“We were watching the K-State/KU game and when the final buzzer sounded, Wesley jumped up and said, ‘I’m going to K-State!’,” Will Witherspoon said.

Now, slow down.

Witherspoon, the No. 56-rated prospect in the Class of 2008 per Rivals, hasn’t committed anywhere.

But Will Witherspoon expects K-State to be one of his son’s four remaining official visits.

While some have suggested it would be foolish for Witherspoon to join the Wildcats with Michael Beasley likely leaving — and possibly Bill Walker, too — Witherspoon doesn’t see it that way, according to his father.

“That’s not a deterrant,” Will Witherspoon said. “He feels like he’s ready for college, and he wants to see what’s out there. … He wants to see Manhattan.”

Witherspoon won’t make any trips until his season is concluded, which will likely be, at the latest, early March. Told K-State might still be playing well into March, Will Witherspoon said he wouldn’t be shocked.

“We’re impressed with (Frank Martin),” he said. “I’ve been surprised at how he’s brought everyone together. He has the team playing at a high level… It’s impressive.”

Witherspoon is averaging 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Berkmar, which is 14-5 and 9-2 in the region, good for first place.

J-Mart delivers again! Wes Witherspoon would make the ‘08 class complete by himself. I really hope he becomes a Cat!

How did the IGFOI die such a quick death?

It’s not dead. It’s tough finding good people. I know, I know - Curtis Malone. I get it. Truth is, I need some questions for that one. I might get one tomorrow while I’m in Manhattan to run Thursday. And Fatima checks in on Thursdays as well. Maybe I should stagger IGFOI until Fridays. Thoughts?

great idea on fridays, would allow you to build up some material instead of blowing your wad on the first dancer at the club.

i’ll get you some candidates, really anyone is better than no one.

You should do it on Mondays. Most people check the internets more on the Mondays than the Fridays.

Witherspoon is awesome. I saw him play this summer against some of the best talent in the country. He is skilled, athletic and has a good shot. Why would he go to Manhattan? Beasley and Walker are leaving. What’s the logic? He should go to Kentucky.
