No. 20 in AP (!), No. 24 in Coaches’ Poll

OK, this is fascinating. Now I understand what the juice of beating arguably the best team in the country can do, but ask yourself this after seeing Kansas State ranked No. 20 in this week’s Associated Press poll:

Where would the Wildcats have been if not for the loss to Missouri? Have to think Top 15, no? Remarkable, especially when it’s considered it did absolutely nothing to K-State’s ranking in the coaches’ poll. No. 24 is precisely where the Wildcats were last week.

Your thoughts?

Kind of surprised we didn’t move up a spot or two.

I thought we’d stay exactly the same with the loss probably around 15th with a mizzou win, and top 10 with 2 wins this week. Oh well.

I meant just outside top 10 with 2 more wins.

I’m not too surprised. I figured we’d be ranked around the 25 range in both polls.

it’s all work itself out in the end. I just hope we can play well enough to find our way to a Sunday matchup with UKans at the Sprint Center (let’s make this Bramlage East???), and get a 3 or 4 seed in the Big Dance. Can’t have too many more losses in order for that to happen though.

I just feel sorry for Nebraska. I would not want to play Mike and Bill after a loss in which neither one of them played well.

I’m not surprised. I expected us to stay about the same in the coaches and move up one or two in the AP poll. The Coaches Poll, which is always the more inaccurate one in both sports, votes for more established programs first and is reluctant to move up a team that is relatively new to the rankings scene. The big win over a major power like Kansas is what kept us in that poll. Had we beat Missouri, we’d have been ranked around 15th in the AP and around 18th in the coaches.

The best news is that our RPI is solid and we’re still projected as a 3 seed. (A little confused by that, but I’ll take it)

Oh yeah, and we’re still No. 1 (by a tiebreaker) in the Big 12. Hawk fans can’t say schitt ’til March 1.

I don’t vote. My predecessor did. I haven’t been asked. One day, hopefully. A boy can dream.
