Housekeeping, 01/25

A couple of little things:

1. I’m going to be doing another live chat with the Lawrence Journal-World on Tuesday, some time in the afternoon in advance of Wednesday’s big game. Hopefully all of you will clear some time and make your presence felt.

2. My efforts to glean precious 2008 basketball recruiting info are coming up dry. More phone calls have been made, and I’m waiting for responses.

3. “I Got Five On It” is coming back strong - hopefully. I’m going to try to get Tim Weiser - keep your fingers crossed on that one - and yes, Curtis Malone. Thing is, I need questions for both. I’ve talked to both men, and I don’t have anything urgent - at least not until signing day in Weiser’s case - to ask. So, if you want these done, come with the questions.

4. The good folks at nfldraftscout.com have provided a little information about Jordy Nelson down at the Senior Bowl. He is currently listed as a rising third- or fourth-rounder, and this was yesterday’s update: “Eventually teams are going to run out of excuses not to like this guy. He’s not quick in and out of breaks but his big body and solid hands are hard to ignore. Nelson also beat corners deep this week, as he did occasionally at KSU, despite not having elite speed. That was an eye opener for scouts and team execs who had not seen him much this season. One of the key guys to watch at Indy next month.” I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it now - if Jordy runs a sub-4.5 at the Combine, he’s a second-round selection at worst.

I’ve wanted to ask Weiser about the Big 12 TV package in football and basketball. Was signing a contract with ESPN a smart thing? It used to be that all three local teams’ games were on broadcast TV and now it looks like you have to subscribe to ESPNU to watch all the games, even though the school has a contract with FSN. The whole thing is just strange and doesn’t seem to benefit the fans much.

The football contract has a boatload of issues. They need to get what the Big 10 has.

Ask Weiser why I can’t get KSU hoops games on TV in KC. Does he know that only a small portion of the population get MetroSports?

Does he know this is 2008 and I can watch a monkey peeing on himself, Altamont High Tech St vs Murray Hill grade school, and Rick Astley videos but not a freaking KSU game?!?!

Pathetic. “We are - third rate”.

Also, could you ask him if he expects ANY future generations of Wildcat fans from the JoCo area?

Due to KSU’s lack of marketing, horrible coverage (constant mockery by our ‘own’ beat writer) in the KC media, lack of television exposure, lack of merchandise available (ku/Chiefs crap is all over- grocery stores, gas stations, in restrooms next to the mints), and hard to travel to games scheduled on Monday nights (yeah..not big monday), I would expect the number of KSU fans declining to near zero in this area as time progresses.

Somehow, that other school in the area is getting it done. Don’t give me this ‘the contract won’t allow it’ BS.

Please ask Tim Weiser his payment scale philosophy in regards to assistant football coaches relative to the rest of the Big 12. Also, ask him if he could schedule Wichita State in the Sprint Center game next year so we actually have an interesting game to watch. Also, will he be scheduling a game in the new Intrust Bank Arena for the Wichita Alums?

Some kind of question regarding expectations for the football team next year. As in, what he expects, or needs to see from the team. I don’t expect him to offer anything other than total support for what Prince is doing, but thats all I have. I also echo the questions why Big 12 games are kept in local markets.

What has been your favorite football and basketball games that you have attended while AD? Have you ever yelled at a ref and then realized that you were AD and that you should probably stop?

Weiser: What kind of facility upgrades are on the table. What is the most pressing needs.

What does the big 12 need to do to get expanded football coverage so that we don’t have to watch Texas and OU vs baylor every year.

What kind of punishments are we looking at from the ncaa investigation.

Can you ask Wieser if there is any talk of re-painting the basketball floor. And if whats on ksufans.com is really an option.

it’ completely ridiculous that in 2008 ksu hoops games cannot be seen be everyone in the state for free. ku fans would be having a total meltdown if the tv situation was reversed. if you get weiser to comment on this, please don’t let him offer bs excuses and/or cop outs. watch parties, radio, espn full court subscriptions, and moving are not viable alternatives. the contract the school signed is crap…and he was part of it. other big 12 schools get much, much more exposure.

When to talk to Weiser and ask him why we don’t have a live Wildcat (bobcat) on campus or near the stadium? Maybe even suggest that we could put in a wildcat enclosure in the northwest corner of the football stadium so it could be seen from inside the stadium as well as accessed from the parking lot before the games. Keep up the great work

Tim: Have you seen what Ronald is doing to the football team in recruiting, wins, weird happenings? Do you consider Frank Martin a solid long term hire or a quick fix making the best of a bad (still awesome) situation? Which solid long term hire would you have considered after Frank (< KEY QUESTION, MAKE SURE TO ASK THIS. You don’t even have to lead up with the other quesitons or use the same wordage!)

Sorry, have to follow up. Lead into it like, “Let’s say Frank Martin or Dalonte went with Bob Huggins, what other coaches would you have thought to put on the radar. Now, Tim, don’t say something dumb like you never considered any because you will be insulting the entire fanbase and would make yourself look dumb. Seriously answer the question. (then go Macenroe if he doesn’t provide a real answer) THE QUESTION JERK!!!
