I usually shy away from giving predictions, but hey, it’s a blog. You have to take some chances. So, from now until the end of the season, I’m going to give a quick piece of analysis – nothing less than 25 words but nothing more than 50 – that will sum up my thoughts of the upcoming game. I will also provide a score, which I hope won’t be used against me down the road (yeah, right).
But before I get to that, I have a quick story to pass on. When I was in Boston last week, I went to the Sports Depot, a decent sports bar in nearby Allston, to watch KU against Missouri. Sure, it’s a rivalry and all, but I wasn’t prepared for at least 50 Jayhawk fans in attendance, sporting their “Muck Fizzou” shirts. Predictably, the non-KU folks at the bar began cheering for the Tigers, if only in spite. Anyway, I asked the organizer of the event, some woman in her 30s, if this was normal. No, she said, but they had gotten together earlier for the game against BC and there were a few more scheduled for the rest of the season.
“K-State, Jan. 30?” I asked.
“No, I don’t think so,” she responded.
Maybe it’s me, but I took that to mean she didn’t think it would be much of a game, so why bother. Personally, I disagree – although I thought differently less than two weeks ago.
But I digress. The morale is, this K-State team still isn’t getting the respect it should. Maybe that changes next week.
As for tonight, I like K-State. Not big – maybe by 10 points. The Wildcats probably won’t score a whole lot, maybe 70 points, but the Buffaloes are somewhat offensively-challenged so it shouldn’t matter. Then again, CU uses a four-guard lineup, and that may put more pressure on the Wildcats. But I doubt it. Expect a big game from Mike Beasley – way to go out on a limb, I know – but also Jake Pullen, who continues to come on.
PREDICTION: K-State 72, CU 63

It’s good to have you back J-Mart.
Please don’t die again.
Welcome back. Hope the e-coast was cool. Large investigative piece on ku’s rb recruit upcoming from your co-workers?
PS. You could also write it as they will make it a fluff piece.
hello j-mart.
pullen comes back to reality tonight. cats lose by 12.
thx for updating your blog. in future deaths, can you please have levi fill in for you during your blogsence.
Who is this J-Mart person?
how is ksu 2008 bball recruiting going? lots of calls to make, i expect.
J-Mart, are you or are you not a part of a governmental or pseudo governmental intelligence agency? Also, please do not answer by say “I’d tell you, but I’d have to kill you,” as that is really lame.
we talkin’ about JMart? JMart? i know we aint talking about JMart. JMart? im the MVP of his blog, and i have to sit here and talk about JMart.
Remember the KSU at Nebraska game last February? Remember how KSU didn’t have anybody that could match up against Maric, and anybody who tried got called for a foul and Maric went for 42 against the ‘Cats? The CU game could be that kind of game for Beasley. I think this is the single biggest mismatch on the XII schedule for Beas. I’m predicting a huge night in the 30/20 range.
I’ve got calls in on 2008 recruiting. I have calls in on junior college football recruiting. Levi actually wrote some stuff last week, but again, I didn’t have Internet access so I couldn’t post anything.
KSU doesn’t get the respect it deserves because they are little more than a one year flash in the pan. How much talent does the high school coach have coming in next year?
ksu 70
cu 58
walker has off-night, but somebody else steps up (aside from beasley)…
to Booyah- tons
Teams typically play sloppy in Boulder. Although I think Beasley has a good match-up and K-State will find ways to score in this game, it will come down to ball protection. If the guard play is as solid in this game as it was against A&M, then K-State wins by 10+. Otherwise, we’ve got a dogfight on our hands.
Something to watch: It may be just a perception, but it seems the Cat’s have been pushed around on the defensive boards that last couple of games; way too many chances for the other team. It was really bad against OU (Griffin and Longars were beasts!) and early on against A&M. This should be a good opportunity to put a stop to that trend and work on some fundamentals of rebounding like position and boxing out. I’m not sure they will get away with it against some of the upcoming competition, if you know what I mean.
That’s my 2ยข’s.
Hopefully some of you will be representing in Boulder tonight. If so, I will see you there. GO CATS!
they are going to try and slow it down, we are going to try and speed it up with presses, I don’t know how well their ball handlers are. So I can’t predict the outcome.
JMart, I almost got teary eyed realizing you were back.
Next time, give us a heads up when you’re gonna be gone that long…I almost didn’t survive. Welcome back.
Guys, its obvious. JMart is shopping his talents back in the NE. He wont be here in a year. Probably doing play by play for Cornell in 09. Covering the hire of their new football coach.
Good score call. Gave CU a bit more credit then they scored, but hey, pegged our score.
Well it was pretty sloppy. Good game and good outcome overall though. There were points in the first half where K-State looked very fluid. Other times the offense looked lost. Almost like they didn’t know what play to run. Walker is extremely impressive in person; he’s quicker and stronger than anyone on the court.
I am thinking the game will be something like a 16 point win. Maybe something like 72 to 56.
