I spoke with Mrs. Smith over the weekend, and she was explaining to me about how difficult this blogging thing is. I tend to agree. Anyway, she’s been consistent, much more than me. Here’s her latest installment of "Mama Sayz":
WOW!
Just when I thought that this week wouldn’t produce any household action because of the lack of roommates and their travel arrangements, I was suddenly reminded that there is NEVER a dull moment. You see, I wanted to arrive at Saturday’s basketball game earlier then usual to see Dominique and Jamar during pre-game warmups. As Malik, Tiffany and I were about to rush out the door, Malik realized that Ss, the cute little puppy that we purchased in early December while shopping for rainbow colored kittens, was not in her cage. So he quickly found her under the dining table and I noticed every time he reached for her, she would let out an agonizing cry of pain. I immediately noticed that Ss had gotten a hold of a roll of double-sided medical tape which she some how had wrapped around her front paws — holding them closely together — across her belly and even wrapped around her tail and back paws. Well, I guess you realize that I wasn’t going to see the pre-game drills because I had to rescue poor little Ss.
After the “surgery,” we were able to get out of the house only to be held up again — only this time the culprit was all the traffic trying to get to the early afternoon game.
Ughhhhhhhhhhh! Where did ALL of these cars come from? There was no easy way in, and I was already late. Finally it was our turn to enter Gate 5 and we scattered like every one else to find the best parking spot and then practically ran a marathon to get to the door. But we ran directly into obstacle No. 3 once we arrived at the ticket table because Tiffany insisted on printing her name, which no one else can read and always takes what seems likes an hour!
I met some really nice people at this game who definitely encouraged me to keep at this writing, so looks like I’ll be around a little longer than I originally anticipated — good or bad. (J-Mart note: I think she’s doing an outstanding job.)
Speaking of games… Since our last gathering, we’ve had two KSU men’s basketball games — one good and one not so good, depending on how you looked at it. And here’s my view…
Saturday’s game against Wagner was fun to watch and the results were good, but actually how much did it help us in preparing us for tougher opponents? So this game has my vote for “not so good.”
As disappointing as it was to see the Cats lose on Monday night, it was actually a chance for EVERYONE to see where they need to improve in order to get to the next level. The reality of it is, it hurts to lose, but in this game and at this stage sometimes you will have to lose in order to grow… Let’s face it, we’re all human and can improve individually in one way or the other.
As for questions, there’s only one that was not answered from last week and I really don’t know how to answer it, but I’ll take a shot at it anyway, so here goes:

Are you and the guys looking forward to a chance to play in the NIT finals in Madison Square Garden….or do you think that would be looking ahead too much?

Well, Pete, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed or not BUT I don’t play the game — I just watch it. However, I’m sure the guys look forward to playing basketball whenever and wherever they can. (J-Mart note: I’m guessing Pete was making a joke about the Wildcats not making the NCAA Tournament, but carry on.) As far as looking ahead too much, I feel you should always plan ahead no matter what. I hope this helps in your inquiry. If not, you can direct any further questions regarding the guys and their post-season play to the KSU men’s basketball department because this is “Mama Sayz.”
Oh, side bar… It was too cold for me and the family to enjoy the festivities of “New Year’s Eve in Little Manhattan” in person but we did get a chance to walk through the set-up before the show began. Tiffany was very excited to see the band’s stage and wanted to stick around for her first live concert. She later enjoyed watching the show on T.V. and I definitely appreciated the warmth of home!

I love your “Mama Sayz” and hope to get to keep reading it. My question is what was Mike’s deminar after the game in Xavier? How does he handle a more human performance then what he is use to putting up?

Mama, this follow-up is for you then (not the guys)…what is your opinion about how well this young team can keep their heads screwed on if it looks like 10 Big 12 wins (alleged magic number)is going to be tough/impossible to get?
Criticisms by the media have been leveled at Coach Martin regarding the extremely vulgar language used toward the basketball players. While it seems that Coach Martin has maybe cooled off a bit (or at least I can’t hear him from where I sit), do you feel his language is/was out of line? How do you as a parent react when you see the coach lay into your son?

And regarding postseason possibilities for this team, it’s a long season, everyone. This team has the potential to be GREAT! Be patient.
Sorry for the people who don’t have any ideas about how to be polite Mama. (Do us a favor pete, and go play in traffic!) I know that this cat fan really enjoys reading what “Mama Sayz.” May your new year be filled with everything you hope for, and keep up the great work, both here and for our boys in purple! What did the guys think of the Sprint Center? I hear the locker rooms and other team only facilities are amazing. Did they talk about it much, or did you see any of the behind the scenes areas yourself? Go Cats!
