THE FLIP SIDE… Texas

Something new for y’all.

This is a feature we’re going to get rolling here where an opposing team’s beat writer chimes in with an assessment of what to expect in the weekend’s big game and a prediction. This week’s guest is Joseph Duarte from the Houston Chronicle. You can read J.D.’s work at chron.com and his blog can be found here.

This is what he had to say:

Don’t expect Texas to get caught looking ahead to next week’s showdown with third-ranked Oklahoma. The Longhorns say revenge isn’t a motivation after the Wildcats ruined their hopes of a repeat national championship. The ‘Horns are a work in progress and may be the most over-rated 4-0 team in the nation. But they rarely lose at home under coach Mack Brown … and we know K-State’s history in Big 12 openers.

Prediction: Texas 34, Kansas State 24

What do you all think? Want to give him a piece of your mind? Agree? Disagree? Let’s hear it. Next week, with the big game, I’m hoping to have a double dip, but I won’t blow the surprise just yet.

Texas isn’t exactly the most intimidating environment and KSU has played pretty well there in Big 12 play. It’ll be interesting.

Not really. Just had that feeling that someone from Texas was getting a little too full of themselves.

I know KSU’s history in openers, always having to go on the road to open the big 12.
Surprised he only had us losing by 10.

even though auburn turns out to be pretty worthless, coming away with that stadium experience in front of 90k will prepare us for a stadium that has a lot of people…

tough to say who wins this. this ksu team make my bi-polar uncle look like camp counselor.

Texas sure doesn’t look in the same league as OU right now but they’ve still got more horses. I think we’ll move the ball some but no way we put up 24 on them.

J-Mart, is there anyone over the age of 13 that posts on ksufans.com. Is it even a KSU fan site?

Does Lutz realize that using research is ok when writing his drivel? How’s Austin?

ksu had an actual wildcat when i was kid. it was housed at sunset zoo and was still called touchdown. i believe it was only rarely taken to games though, if at all. i assume it was more active a few years earlier and being phased out at that time.

it would be great to go back to a live mascot. or maybe a herd of them.

Hey, thanks for giving your take on the game. I guess your observation that Texas “may be the most overrated 4-0 team” was correct. But I still think Texas is really, really good. I mean, the talent and speed are definitely there. How do you like UT’s chances against Oklahoma? If CU can win by just pounding the ball up OU’s gut, why not Texas?

I would also like to know how Colt is doing. Is he OK? I love watching K-State get to the QB, but I always feel bad when admirable student-athletes, like Brandon Cox and Colt McCoy, get the hell beat out of them.

By the way, don’t feel bad about picking Texas: nobody in the media, including our own J-Mart, gave KSU much of a shot.

    Thanks again!

    Hey J-Mart,

    How does that loss at Auburn look now? :}

Still think we lose in Stillwater?
