This is the only time I’ll discuss the Oklahoma State coach’s tirade.
It was an embarrassment. Regardless of what Jenni Carlson wrote or how she wrote it, it was ridiculous to watch a Division I football coach to dress down a member of the media in that setting. Ms. Carlson being a woman doesn’t earn her a pass in my book, but Gundy shouldn’t be surprised if he’s labeled a bully from now on.
To me, if anyone has a reaction that emotional and/or defensive, it’s usually an admission of guilt, meaning there was likely some truth to what Ms. Carlson wrote. Maybe not all of it, but some shreds. Just something to consider.
Last note - great news for The Oklahoman’s Web site, as far as traffic goes. The site itself is a bit of train wreck.

If kids at school call your children fat, stupid, ugly,…if you get upset and confront them or their parents, is it because “there was likely some truth to what” those kids said?
Jmart I love your coverage of KSU sports but you people in the press need to get over yourselves. I have no idea if Jenni Carlson was right or wrong but being “a member of the media” should not exempt her from critical comments no matter how poorly they are presented. Just ask the Duke lacrosse team what the press can do to ruin lives. I the press is going to dish it out they should have to take it too IMHO.
But what do I know? I only have a BS and MBA, not the exalted Journalism degree.
Did I say I love your KSU coverage?
The media, much like officials/refs, seem to want to dish it out, but not take it. I think anyone, the coach or the media, getting righteous is fairly absurd, considering both coaches and the media whore themselves for an 18 year old’s commitment or comment. And LOL at the “setting”. Like her forum for her article was any better of a setting than Gundy’s press conference.
GoddardCat is awesome: “you people in the press need to get over yourselves,”…followed by… “I only have a BS and MBA.”
LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I’M GODDARDCAT! MY SON GOES TO K-STATE! I HAVE A BOAT!!!!!
This will help OSU’s recruiting tremendously.
What parent wouldn’t want someone to stick up for their kids like Mike Gundy did for Reid?
If Gundy’s smart, he’ll milk this for all it’s worth.
Gee thanks for the “kind” words Lolz. If you knew me you would know I’m a long ways from a “look at me” type.
Correction: my son AND daughter go to KSU as did I and their mother.
Did you actually have a comment on Jmart’s blog or are you here just to stir things up?
J, you have got to be kidding. Gundy had as much right as Carlson had. Why should her diatribe be out where the public can scrutinize and his done behind closed doors. I did not see anything wrong with Gundy telling it like it is.
What a surprise, one media member reflexively coming to the defense of another, without the slightest attempt at objectivity. Typical. Journalists love to rip apart others, but then circle the wagons when someone applies the same practice to them.
Not surprised by Jeff’s comments. I tend to agree with the other posters that sentiment that the media can dish it out to no ends, but when something is turned on them, and rightfully I think like this, they can’t take it one bit.
If the post game press conference was an inappropriate place to call Carlson out, then the COVER OF THE GAMEDAY SECTION of the paper was an inappropriate place for that poorly written column. To run that column on the front of the sports section on gameday was a big middle finger to the OSU program.
I’ll join in the chorus of “you people in the press need to get over yourselves.” The press gets a public platform, usually daily, in which to espouse whatever you feel strong about, however you feel about it. Gundy used the only platform he’ll ever be afforded.
The only thing I can fault him at, perhaps, is losing control of his temper/emotions. But being human, most of us can only take so much one-sided hearsay.
Journalism it was not.
Welcome back, J-Mart.
Whether Gundy was right to blast the reporter or not, you can’t convince me that he did it in the right setting or manner.
Can you even imagine Bill Snyder acting like Douchie von Douchenstein, a la Gundy?
Wow, you guys missed me.
This is what I wrote today:

Bill Snyder? Just ask Ron Paradis about after the KU game in 1991!
I think it’s funny how the media is ripping Gundy apart (including on both PTI and Around the Horn) yet most of the public agrees with Gundy’s reaction. All of the sudden, reporters aren’t feeling like they’re so “safe” to express their opinion from behind a keyboard.
And speaking as a coach/mentor, just because he was royally pissed when he reacted doesn’t make what she said true. If someone went after one of mine, I could see myself getting worked up to that point too.
Jeffrey Martin is scared of Coach Gundy! LOLLERS!!!!111one
I liked it when Mike Gundy stood up for Bobby. I like it when coaches stand up for their boys.
Go Gundy! So what if he got emotional….he’s a football coach. Even the placid Bill Snyder could get emotional. High time the media look in the mirror when they’re asking whose to blame. Makes me want to see O-State play next time.
