The word started to spread last week. Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby was interested in the Kansas job.
Turns out, he was, for a day.
“I called Kansas to make a recommendation for somebody else, and I was asked if I’d be interested,” Bowlsby said. “I thought about it for a day or so, but I never took a serious look at it.”
So, no Bowlsby for KU. It would have been a coup. Stanford is a college sports machine. For 16 straight years, it’s won the Learfield Cup, which recognizes the nation’s most successful all-around sports program. Bowlsby was the athletic director at Northern Iowa and Iowa before moving to Stanford in 2006.
Bowlsby wouldn’t share his recommendation.
