Darrell Stuckey named Big 12 men’s sportsperson of year

Well, the Big 12 does still exist. And the conference was nice enough on Thursday to honor former KU safety Darrell Stuckey with its male Sportsperson of the Year award.

The Sportspersons of the Year award was started in 2000-01 to annually recognize student-athletes who displayed an extraordinary degree of sportsmanship and/or community service during the academic year. Stuckey, a Kansas City, Kan., native, was selected by a media panel, and he has been nominated for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award.

Stuckey was drafted in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers.
