SHERRON COLLINS

Got caught in a smash of KU players and coaches on the way into the locker room as I was walking out of the UNLV locker room — standing there with Sherron Collins as this nice, nice lady asked him for his ID as the rest of his (taller) teammates kept walking past him. He didn’t trip, just stood there looking at her for a second, I asked him what he was listening to and he flashed me his IPod. Soulja Boy’s “All The Way Turned Up,” in case you were interested.

Finally, a KU assistant coach just said “Collins,” and they let him through. He didn’t come out for press conference which ended up being a good thing because he had to answer a bunch of questions off the cuff in the locker room — a lot of stuff about Obama picking the Jayhawks and singling him out (“I don’t feel that special, though, he’s a sports fan. I bet he knows about Lehigh, too.”) Would he want to play a pickup game with Obama? (“Yeah I would, I heard he’s a pretty good passer.”) Did he vote for Obama? (“Yes.”) Why did he and his teammates seem so, so serious when all the other teams were pretty loose today? (“We’re still having fun. We’re loose. But after shootaround, it’s business.”)  And, of course, Soulja Boy. (“I listen to everyday probably,” SC said, laughing. “That’s not a stretch to say that. Every day.”)
