The show opened with a performance of “School’s Out” featuring the four contestants remaining in Season 8 of American Idol, along with Slash, who mentored the group this week. It was rock ‘n’ roll week in Hollywood – and Adam Lambert clearly won the battle.
Tonight’s elimination episode featured a performance by Chris Daughtry who was actually eliminated on Top 4 week of Season 5. He stands as a testament that any of these incredibly talented performers can go on to achieve incredible things in the music industry if they are given the opportunity.
No Doubt also made an appearance, as well as judge Paula Abdul – her first ever performance on the American Idol stage.
When all the votes were counted – 64 million to be exact – the top 3 were announced. And when the dust had cleared, it was Allison Iraheta left standing center stage – At 17 years old, Allison was eliminated from Season 8. Allison, the young singer from Los Angeles is best known for her powerful rocker voice that has been compared by many to Kelly Clarkson.
And for the first time ever in American Idol history – the top 3 are all male singers.
Tune in next week to see the Top 3 battle it out for a spot in the finals.

I didn’t want any of them to be voted off. Wow such talent!! I was very happy for Kris, though. Honestly thought Danny should have gone, but like I said in an earlier post, the voters have their minds made up already.
Can’t wait to see them go home next week. Ever been to Conway Arkansas? Not much there. But I bet everybody in town shows up for cheer on Kris Allen.
I am sorry to see Alison go but at this point anyone who goes home is still a winner.
What a sad evening, Kris or Danny don’t stand a chance against Adam in the finals, and it won’t even be interesting to watch. Allison is talented and at least would have ‘livened’ (is that a word?) things up! Seeing Daughtry again was very cool, can’t wait for his CD which got me thinking….would I BUY an Adam CD? A Danny or Kris CD? Nope, I would not. Will have to wait till July for that new Daughtry!
I am sad. But she is young and has many more opporunities ahead of her. Maybe Daughtry will help her out some!
I am happy for Kris though. Just wish it had been Adam, Allison, and Kris left standing.
Allison was very gracious at the end.
ITA that neither Kris or Danny have the chops to go up against Adam, and was really hoping Allison would be sticking around for another week or two.
But she will have a future in music, and I sincerely hope she show up in a few years, singing a hit on Idol,on a Final Four elimination night, and able to say the same things Daughtry was able to say! Can she be another 3rd runner up icon?
Wow….what a night. Allison went out with grace and dignity. She still has a great career ahead of her. Looks like Adam is going to take the title.
Paula wasn’t too shabby – quite a perfermance.
Who the heck is this “No Doubt”? She’s about as weird as Lady Gaga……….maybe they are the same person????
I was wondering about the guy in No Doubt with the tutu on….weird bunch. They also were not singing live, did anyone else notice there were no judges at the judges table while Gwen was singing? I think that Simon had something to do with Allison leaving, he certainly gave her bashes for the last few weeks about her confidence level. I think Allison will go quite far, so guess it is a good thing she doesn’t have to be strapped down to Idol. I still can’t get over the year that Taylor Hicks won, who listens to his ’same ole stuff different song’?
Like I said.. you sing Janis, you write your ticket home.
At this point, it is hard to see anyone go home. I’m happy to see Kris still standing though. Daughtry was the best live performance from a previous idol to date, and is the ONLY one I’ve purchased a CD or gone to see live. I will definately NOT purchase an Adam CD or go see him live, just don’t like his screeching (and he doesn’t come NEAR to Chris Daughtry’s caliber in my opinion). I would see Kris, but think he is better suited to the small-venue type of performance – not a big Arena show. I was so glad to see Danny laugh off the “big note” that he attempted. It really wasn’t good and I’m glad he could see that.
On with the show……
adam is the winner in my book, no matter what happens. his ability to sing transcends musical genre. he can sing anything and be better than the other singers on ai this season or any other season so far. if he wore a plaid shirt and said “awe, shucks”, would middle america be more likely to vote for him? if he loses, it will be a case of perception of who he is and not of his talent. which would be a shame.
I had totally braced myself to see Kris or Danny go home. I feel bad that Allison had to leave, but its ok she still gets to tour and who knows..she may get a record deal out of the thing.
And OMG wasn’t Daughtry awesome? I love them!
To boobookitty…. Really? You really don’t know who No Doubt or Gwen Stefani are/is? I hope you were born after the year 1995…. Please tell me you were.
oh yes, forgot about Miss Paula, I thought she did just great, and the camera man did a fairly decent job hiding the lip synching this time, she still has it, and if I was 25 years younger and still hanging out at the dance clubs, this song would be playing I’m pretty sure! Danny did handle himself pretty well, have to grant him that, I think he was prepared to go home.
AJET – honey child – I’m a baby boomer. Sorry not up do date on today’s weirdos.
I’ll like Adam a lot better after his voice changes. Yes, he can really carry a tune, but I didn’t like the high-pitched lead singers in the 80’s hair bands and I haven’t changed my mind since. Too bad for Allison, though – I liked her a lot.
I liked Allison alot too but knew she wouldnt win. That fact is obvious. I don’t feel too bad for her though. She’s gained some awesome experience and exposure and if she’s got what it takes, she’ll make it. I really like Kris. He just seems so genuine and of the three left I can say I would be more inclined to purchase his cd than any of the others. I liked Danny in the beginning but I have lost interest. Adam definately has been fun to watch and kept my interest piqued to see what he’s going to do each week, but I know I could never listen to him thru a whole CD. The whole American Idol experience this year has been pretty crappy though as far as production of the show goes. From the stupid babbling of the judges pushing the show past its time slot to the stupid production numbers and stage falling apart as it did on tues this week just before the show. Oh well…it will all be over soon.
boobookitty, I had no idea who No Doubt was either and although I had heard of Gwen Stefani, it wasn’t until my niece said it was her performing that I put 2 and 2 together. I was really glad I didn’t let her know how woefully out of date I am by oommenting on her on my family idol blog lol!
Ok…one thing I didn’t mention and just cannot let go. Who decided it was a good idea to give Kara woody woodpecker hair on Tuesday night and let her big ears stick out? We all have flaws but I’m thinking there must be some stylist on the Idol payroll who wanted a payback to Kara to make her look so bad Tuesday.
me, too… i didn’t know No Doubt, either, but had heard of Gwen Stefani. she sure can move fast! maybe faster than she needed to. kinda like an exercise video.
i am still trying to get over that song that was performed a couple of weeks ago (i can’t even bring myself to write the name of it down here!) which made an obvious reference to a type of sex act. what was idol thinking????? part of the lyric is “my head spins around when you go —- —-”. well, let me tell ya, my head spun around a little when i realized what they were saying.
Well, I finally had to comment. First time this season. I seem to remember a lot of bloggers making the same kind of predictions about who couldn’t possibly win last season so I think I will wait and see who actually wins and not take any of your prophetic words to heart. Second, there are a lot of people who enjoy a voice like Kris’ as well as one like Adam’s. I am one of them. And I too would buy a CD by Kris but would probably never buy one by Adam. ( I did get David Cooks’, my secret pleasure.) As for the show this season, I will definitely say that I have spent much more time fast-forwarding through sooo much extraneous garbage from those double-talking judges. Ridiculous, I say! Oh yeah, why hasn’t anyone mentioned how badly Danny messed up the lyrics during the duet! No wonder Kris was mad.
