I’m Coming to Wichita This Weekend!

I’m excited to say that I will be performing this weekend at the Westlink Christian Center. I will be joining my good friend from Northwest High School, Dan Schurtz – along with a full band – on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The performance will feature a couple tunes from the ’80s. If you don’t have any plans – you don’t want to miss me getting my Michael Bolton on. Hope to see you there!

In Idol news …

The pressure was on for the five remaining American Idol finalists last night as they performed standards, vying it out for that coveted Top 4 position. As Simon stated at the beginning of the results show tonight, they were all REALLY good. No doubt, this is the strongest group of talent in the history of American Idol.

At this point in the competition, the audience is no longer voting for a performance. They are now voting for their favorites, regardless of who did the best job. And that is the way it should be. However, if one of the contestants comes out with an unquestionable show-stopper (aka Fantasia’s “Summertime” or Katherine McPhee’s “Summertime”), they could easily jump out in front of the rest of the group.

The big story of the night was this season’s clear judge favorite, Adam Lambert, being in the bottom 2 vote-getters. Ryan had divided the other four into two groups and asked Adam which group he felt he belonged in. Adam chose to join Danny and Allison in the group that was the obvious favorite before being stooped by Ryan. Everyone seemed surprised to see him in the bottom 2. Including Adam.

Matt Giraud
Tonight’s telecast featured performances by Jamie Foxx and Natalie Cole. After 47 million votes were cast, it was Matt Giraud who was sent home. Matt is a gifted vocalist and exceptional pianist. He will be featured on the American Idols Live Tour this summer. Check out www.americanidol.com for details.

    Welcome home Phil!

Just when I decide Adam is my new best friend because he can vanquish Gokey, he screws the pooch tonight. Has he not watched Idol the last 2 seasons like me and seen Melinda and Archie sit down in the middle of the two groups and refuse to take a stand? Not good because America loves the appearance of humility. Not only that, he looks as mathematically challenged as Kara and her *I have six words for you*. Its the bottom 3 Adam. Not the top 3. And there are two on each side. So go to the bottom 3 and hope Ryan does a switcheroo like he did with David Cook last season. Arrgh!

Ok..and now to Matt. I didn’t like him last night and could not understand why Simon thought he was so great. Simon obviously listens to the studio versions so he can preen in front of the camera during the live performances. Because I LOVED Matt tonight. He wasn’t pitchy, he kept the melody, he didn’t overuse his falsetto and I’m thinking darn it….if you had sung that way last night maybe Gokey would be going home instead of you.

Loved Natalie Cole. Was bewildered by Taylor Hicks and muted Jamie Foxx after about 1 minute of that noise. At least he was gracious to the contestants.

Next week is rock week and Adam cannot fall back on being subdued. And he has already done the rock classics, Satisfaction and Born to Be Wild. I’m having worries for him. Lets hope Allison doesn’t try to act like some jaded Joplinesque creature wanting some hot stuff and if she does do Joplin, which I would love to see her do, she keeps it vulnerable.

Danny is busy studying David Cook tapes so as long as he imitates him he will be fine. I hope Kris surprises again.

ps… monica. i am with whoever said he likes your posts better than phil’s.
and, do you ever read mjsbigblog? if you have commented on this, forgive me. i am old and have no short-term memory.

ack, I feel a bit guilty that 2 people like my posts better than Phil’s posts. Trust me I cannot carry a tune and would wet my pants if I ever had to sing in front of the millions of people that Phil sings for.

I just get a little obsessed about Idol and tend to go on and on. I have heard of mjsbigblog but have not read it except as it has been linked by other sites. My niece and I do our own litte blog for family and friends She is young but takes after me and can leave no opinion unexpressed so sometimes we agree and sometimes we do not. I’m not completely psycho though. I know there are other things going on in the world besides American Idol. I just choose to ignore them during Idol season lol!

Gah!! We were *just* there. Literally we have been home in Iowa for like 3 hours. So disappointing! Oh well, when we plant our new church you’ll come back and sing there once, won’t you? :-)

i’d rather read a silly, funny, irreverant take on the show than an extended AI commercial. that’s why i mentioned the other blog. i read this one cause i live in wichita and the eagle is my homepage. that’s as good an excuse as any! ha!
    keep it comin’, monica!

I think Adam exposed himself as a plant on the show who has never watched Idol before. Why? Because he chose the perceived winners group when Ryan asked him where he thought he belonged. If he’d EVER watched Idol at this point in the competition, he’d know better than to choose. (Or if he had any sense of humility whatsoever, he’d know better than to choose.) I’m starting to think that maybe he won’t win. Which is absolutely fine. He’s bound for a career that will probably make him more money than winning Idol would anyway.

This is the most talented and entertaining top 5 since I started watching 5 or 6 years ago. It’s impossible for me to predict who should win.

And yes, Natalie Cole has been quite ill. Google her and you can read all about it. Hepatitis C and she needs a kidney transplant.

I was surprised to see Adam in bottom two but can see the reasoning behind it. The idol is a person who is marketable as a recording artist as well as a stage artist. I would go see Adam on stage but can’t imagine listening to an album of his songs for long. Too much screaming for me.

My new favs are Allison and Kris. Hope they are in the finals. If Kris continues to impress he would be my pick. I could listen to him on a long drive. Allison maybe not so much. Being a Janice Joplin fan I see the resemblance and love it but still like Kris more.

Whoopsie for Adam. I cringed when he picked a side– I wish he would’ve said he didn’t know where to stand poor guy. I hate when Ryan creates those uncomfortable situations, like asking judges which they like best out of two, or asking contestants who they think should stay or go. B/c if they answer, and the judges usually do, it can further upset or humiliate a contestant who may already be down-and-out or who thought they were on top of the world only to learn they’re not. B/c Adam was confident, he was made to look a little foolish for thinking he wouldn’t be in the bottom 3. What purpose does that line of questioning really serve? It doesn’t matter what the judges or contestants think–it’s up to the voters and everyone knows they’re totally unpredictable, so stop creating scenarios for such awkward/embarassing results already.

I’m guessing what happened with Adam is that people like me (self-professed members of Team Adam) stopped voting for him b/c they thought he was safe. Ppl prob assume he’s fine so they vote for others in hopes to keep them around for one more week. I’ll start voting again next week!

I have to agree with Mel… people probably felt that Adam was safe, and didn’t vote for him. OR… people are getting tired of his screaming!

That Jamie Foxx “song” was awful. I mean… didn’t Cher do that voice box thing 10 years ago?? Using that for a whole song just covers up that maybe you can’t sing?!!?

That screaming you all are referring too is pure rock talent and I have a feeling that Adam will blow the place away next week. He is an all-around performer, great vocal range, and awesome performing capability. The others are good singers, but not performers. That is the difference. I love Allison and would be fine with her winning, but I don’t think it will happen.
