Were You Surprised?

The American Idol contestants battled it out last night with hits from the disco era. Many contestants brought new interesting arrangements to the show while others tried to capture the original charm of the songs they chose.

Adam Lambert shined as usual with an extraordinary performance of “If I Can’t Have You,” along with fellow contestants, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen.

Anoop DesaiAt the end of the day, it was Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai that received the lowest amount of votes. Lil has been on the brink of elimination for several weeks now, and Simon predicted last evening this would be her last week in the competition. Anoop has been a regular member of the bottom three.

Lil Rounds is the 23-year-old mother from Memphis, Tenn. Anoop is a 21-year-old R&B crooner from Chapel Hill, N.C.

Tonight’s episode featured performances by disco legends Freda Payne, Thelma Houston, KC from KC and the Sunshine Band, and still another performance from season 7 runner-up David Archuleta, as well as a contestant group number choreographed by Paula Abdul.

Tune in next week as the competition continues for the five remaining finalists. Who will you choose as your next American Idol?

It was rather anti-climactic tonight. I was surprised Allison was in bottom 3 instead of Hat Man Matt. Was thinking Simon would kick himself if she went home tonight for wasting the save on Matt. Although, I agree with Jerry’s comment. I thought the song choice was disturbing for a 16 year old girl. I’m hoping she just felt completely out of her element doing Disco and comes back strong next week because I really like her.

Next week is going to be the critical week. I cannot remember if they do a bottom 3 when there are only 5 left or not. I think we will get a pretty good idea of how this is going to end after the votes are in next week.

I wasn’t surprised by the bottom 3 although I didnt think that Allison deserved to be there. I wasn’t fond of her perfomance last night but others were far worse than hers. I think now more than ever song choice is going to be ever so critical for the remaining contestants. I admit I am a disco chick from way back but the old timers on the show sucked tonight…as well as David Archuleta. Even my husband who doesnt care a thing about the show looked up from his work and asked “who is that? He sucks!” Sorry Archie fans…but his singing was weak. Good thing the wasnt singing to be judged tonight! Anyone else think Paula looked almost lucid tonight when they showed tape of her teaching the kids the dance? I guess she was really in her element in the dance studio…unlike behind the judges table where she cant seem to put two coherent words together. The lip synching while they contestants were dancing was pretty bad too. Probably much better than I could do though with only two days to learn the song and the dance.

No surprises what so ever! The right people went home. Matt needs to watch out, i assume he will be next.

I personally thought Freda Payne was terrible…my goodness, when was the last time she sang in public, and Archie was puffing so bad while talking to Ryan, I thought they were going to have to give him oxygen!

Lil absolutely needed to go tonight though I still thought Matt should have went before Anoop. Alison in the bottom 3???? I so don’t think so, even though I was not thrilled with her performance last night.

Was not surprised. Lil left more graciously than I had anticipated. And Anoop showed his usual class with the good-bye. He sounded great on his goodbye song, too.

I was an Archie fan, and my husband was an even bigger Archie fan. But after his song tonight, we both thought the current singers outsing him by a mile. Excluding Lil, of course. She outsings howling dogs. That’s about all.

I have to agree with everything everyone else has posted, and I was so disappointed in Archie! The song was weak and his voice was even weaker. He was heads above the old-timer disco singers, they looked like karaoki versions of themselves!
Thought Matt should have gone before Anoop, and most def should have been in the bottom 3 before Alison. He just always looks so nervous that he makes *me* nervous. He just tries too hard, nothing seems natural, a lot like Lil.
    Next week should be interesting.

i liked the tape of paula teaching the kids to dance. she is so talented! i am a paula fan and think some of you guys are really ugly when you talk about her. is your jealousy showing???
i thought allison was better than everyone except maybe chris and, of course, “adam, the magnificent.” i think archie was great and still think he should have won last year. david cook always creeped me out a little… there was never any change of expression on his face!
btw… has anyone heard that simon is leaving the show to bring another show to the U.S.? and that ryan would take his place as a judge?

This has been the most boring year of american idol for me yet. Adam has outpowered the rest of the group by far with stage performance and singing and I was a anoop fan. Wasnt surprised he went home, more surprised he lasted as long as he did. The judges confuse me weekly. First they tell them “make the song your own”, then they tell them “that didnt sound anything like the original song”. Well personally, I would rather hear something thats like what the original artist sang and I can relate to. I think this is my last year for american idol. Thank goodness for Susan Boyle she gave america something to talk about from Britain.

Idol worshipper, I’m not jealous. I am really ugly. My pug tells me every morning how ugly I am. I can understand my pug. I can’t understand Paula Abdul.

Next 2 weeks is either Matt or Allison. I am looking forward to the final 3 to hear a couple songs from each contestant when they perform.

Thanks again Monica, I hadn’t thought about that movie in a long time and just how much it made me laugh. I watched the amazing “one-armed violinist” this morning, laughed hysterically and looking forward to a fantastic day! All the best!

America got it right – Anoop & Lil was the right choice to back their bags. Now I can see Adam & Danny in the finale. Getting down to the wire now. Still love KC of the Sunshine Band – aged a bit (but haven’t we all) but still has good vocals.

Most of you have it right. The big shocker was Allison being in the bottom three, and I am glad that they didn’t make her fret too long and sent her back to the couches. Really surprised how well Lil took her vote off. She really cooked her “I’m Every Woman” farewell, and if she had done it that way the previous night we might well be saying goodbye to Hatt Matt and Anoop ‘Dog’.

I have said all along that this is Adam Lambert’s title to lose. He has the experience on the stage, and when he is on camera, you can’t help but watch. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kris becomes the Idol because he is in the shadows and lurking right behind Adam every step of the way.

My choice for final four looks like Allison, Danny, Kris and Adam.

Less than a month from now and we will see how it all pans out and who the next Idol will be.

I heard on the radio there is talk of it , but that Simon said he will do another year. I hope they drop Kara, she just seems to copy what Randy says. And get Paula in treatment. I love Adam and hope he wins.

Next week’s theme is songs from the Rat Pack era. As I recall, Volare was a big hit for Dean Martin. I will literally fall off my couch in spasms of laughter from which I may never fully recover if Danny Gokey sings Volare!

We need to warn the local paramedics, Monica, to be on Volare alert next week. Get 911 on your speed-dial.

I can’t stand the way Adam sings. His voice makes my skin crawl. I’m betting he is gay too. Wait and see if I am not right.
