The judges have saved Matt Giraud and no one was booted off Idol tonight. Matt Giraud received the least amount of votes, just as I predicted in my blog Tuesday night, but the dueling piano man from Kalamazoo, Mich., will get a second chance to win over America. I believe he can do it, but as Simon alluded, it will be hard since next week is Disco Week. Because of the judges’ kindness tonight, two Idols will get the disco ball dropped on them and boogie on home due to a double elimination.
It was no surprise that Lil Rounds and Anoop joined Matt Giraud in the bottom three. Anoop Desai was in the bottom three for the third week in a row despite one of his best performances but was the first sent back to the safe couch. Lil could have easily been chopped tonight so next week she will have to do amazing to survive the odds. I believe disco might give her that chance.
Oscar and Grammy winner and booted Idols’ role model, Jennifer Hudson came back to her starting place. She did an amazing performance of her new single, “If This Isn’t Love.” Much to my daughter’s delight, Miley Cyrus also made an appearance, singing “The Climb.”

I love Matt, but next week he might get axed anyway. We’re getting down to the tough part where its hard to choose who not to keep. I still think Matt, Anoop and Lil will be the bottom 3 next week.
And who’s the idiot who picked Disco for next week? Do they want to see them all fail?
I know Matt’s performance last night was far from perfect, but I have to admit I screamed with excitement when they saved him! I think the judges have always kinda liked him, but I also think the timing worked in his favor as far as the save goes. He has the talent, he just needs to polish it…and quick! Bad thing is, I don’t think Disco week is going to help him.
Totally believe Lil would have been voted off tonight if not for her being Vote for the Worst’s pick this week. She’s never impressed me, and last night was her worst yet.
It was nice to see the group so happy for Matt. Not quite a teary eyed moment for me like last week, but its clear they all love him. I think he might be the character of the group.
Disco… I want Lil to sing *I Will Survive* in Simon’s face. Its the only Disco song I remember. I think it might be a trainwreck for all but Adam and perhaps Allison.
I have officially stuck a key in my eye for my remarks about Danny. You will all be pleased to know that karma caught me as I got the numbers mixed up and ending up voting for Danny instead of Kris. So consider me punished for my intemperate remarks.
I agree with the save tonight. On the other hand if it had been Lil I don’t think they would have used the save for her. Matt has been back and forth as far as good, sound performances. Lil has had several off weeks in a row now. Next week is going to be…well I don’t even know how to voice what I’m feeling about next week. Disco????? That’s just wrong.
While I though Matt did much better than Lil, I believe they have just prolonged the agony for Matt. Why or why wasn’t it Lil that got voted off? She has just been struggling since about the 2nd week.
Disco week…omg, every year they have disco week and it is ALWAYS horrible! Disco was during my heydey and even then I wasn’t crazy about it. Well, let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Does anyone besides me remember that when Chris Sligh sang “Endless Love” the year that Phil was on, the judges criticized him for changing the arrangement of that particular song. They stressed that songs of this magnitude should not be changed! Then on Tuesday night Simon criticized Danny for singing the original version. I’m so confused…
Well last night I kind of liked the group song. And the guest performers were fantastic, too. Jennifer Hudson in particular. Lil will NEVER be a Jennifer Hudson. No way.
Glad they saved Matt, even if it’s a temporary fix for him, at least he gets another performance. Next week will probably be more of the same re: bottom three, but surely we’ll finally be Lil-free after that.
And, Monica, pull that key out of your eye….that was funny. Especially the inadvertent Danny voting. Loved it!
i think lil is getting bad advice or something. she has it but is not using it.
i don’t like matt and danny sounds the same in every song, which might be okay to establish his style.
i love allison, but she is not as strong as adam. if he does not win, it will be a travesty.
the other guys are good, but can’t win either.

every now and then, the flow of the show seems off, like it is a dress rehearsal and they are working out the timing. does it seem like that to anyone else?
I agree–the flow of the show the last two nights was really awkward! Everything seemed uncomfortable to watch, it was just a weird two nights. I think that Miley Cyrus needs her adenoids taken out, she is soooo nasal sounding. Cute girl with a cute personality, but her singing is not Idol worthy!
Miley’s hair-do and head bobbing was terrible. Hair all in her face and mouth. Other than that she was adorable.
I think that Matt should have gone home. Scott was way more talented than him and I think they should have used the save on him. Matt will not in Idol.
I like Matt. He’s not my favorite, but I don’t really have a favorite this time around. I think that might be the fast-forwarding addiction I have (I normally watch an episode of Idol in about 15 minutes) and I haven’t really made a connection (positive, anyway) with any of the contestants.
However, using the save on Matt was my preference thus far. I think he has a lot of potential and he’s really finding a place for his voice, so hopefully he can make a stellar comeback. And if not, at least he got another night in the lime light.
I enjoyed about 30 seconds of Adam’s performance on Tuesday–improvement for sure. However, when the screaming began, so did the fast forwarding.
I’m not a fan of Miley Cyrus…she’s 16 and her voice doesn’t impress me. However, I envy her net worth. She’s not the worst, but by far not the best.

I was surprised that they used the save on Matt. I was thinking that they were waiting to use it on a great performance that did not get the votes due to over confidence of the voters who decide to vote on their underdog favorite, instead of their favorite performance. Maybe there is less of a chance of that happening now that America knows that the judges don’t have a save any longer.
I too am confused about the save, why tell him he has no chance of winning, then save him? I thought it was for a ‘worthy’ contestant, the whole point being to prevent someone that could have won from being voted off like Daughtry?
What is going to happen next week if Allison or Adam ends up in bottom two and they wasted their save. The highlight of the season: Jennifer Hudson, I love seeing her shine knowing Simon used to slam her! He isn’t always right.
OK most the time he is. Disco week? Can only be painful for us and the Idols….AUGH!!!
I guess I’m the old-timer as when disco came out back in my day – I loved it and still do. Alot better than today’s hip-hop….just my opinion. I can see Lil doing a Donna Summer song. Poor Matt – that’s gotta be the hardest thing to do – sing for your life knowing you might be booted off in the next 30 seconds. I noticed his voice cracked a bit, but that could have been from being so nervous. I highly commend him for singing his life away. Just hope he does better next week. Since two will be leaving next time – Lil may be one of them. Adam, Allison, & Danny in the top three – I have always thougth Adam has the whole Idol package. But all three are in a league of their own and are fantastic.

Didn’t the “judges save” expire when they hit the bottom 5? They had to use it last night because next week after the 2 go home there are only 5 left.
Just wanted to comment about Miley Cyrus. That poor girl. I know some liked her performance, but I kinda felt sorry for her, esp after following the powerhouse that is Jennifer Hudson. It was like a kid in her Mom’s dress-up clothes trying to act the part. Head-banging in an evening gown? Hair in face and mouth. Was she a teen trying to rock or a glam/diva woman? Confusing. She really belted it out, just not very well. I kept thinking–if this were an AI audition, they would not advance her to Hollywood.
I think our top 3 are pretty well defined now. Adam, Allison and Danny have it sewn up……unless some weird voting goes on, as we all know has happened before. Props to the producers for getting Jennifer Hudson back! Truly a class actL! But……Mylie Cyrus??? PUHHHHLEEEEEZZZZ! AI is not Disney!! At least I had time for a b.r. break!
I thought the same thing about Mileys “head banging” in an evening gown. Not to mention it was really awkward and not relavent to the type of song she was singing. And yikes…take off the nose plug! Ok, I’ve listened to all the slamming of Disco and I know lots of people hate it but I’m sorry. I love it too boobookitty. I was reading on another site and saw some comments about what songs people thought they should sing. It was really funny. Someone said they thought Adam Lambert should sing “Its Raining Men”…being openly gay as he is, snother said “How Deep Is Your Love” for Anoop, since he is the “Balladeer” of the group these days. Lil, “Shake Shake Shake, your Booty” (cuz of obvious reasons), Danny, “Stayin ALive”, Allison “Enough is Enough”, Matt, “Shadow Dancin”, Kris, “Night Fever”. I can’t help it…some of these just made me smile. I love these songs! Even as crappy as I think this season has been, I’ll still watch just to see this.
