Unfortunately for Matt…

I am watching tonight’s performances in Worcester, Mass., with my dear friends and fellow season 6ers Gina Glocksen and Melinda Doolittle. We are all really excited that Quentin Tarantino is the guest judge. Seriously! How cool is that?

So the theme tonight is “Movie Songs.” And apparently, because they talked so much and went over time last week, Simon will only be judging half the contestants tonight. Which is a little dumb. Simon is what keeps this show on the air. Fifty bucks says we’ll be back at three judges next season – no offense intended for the judge that will not be with us. Without Simon, how will any of us know what we think about these performances?

Week by week, Adam continues to set himself apart as the “artist” of the group. He came out and rocked the stage. Quentin referred to him as “the real deal.”

Allison IrahetaOne of the big surprises of the night was Allison Iraheta, who wowed Simon enough for him to say that he could see her in the finals. She sang “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” Other great performances tonight came from Danny Gokey and Anoop Desai, who has now gone two weeks in a row without the judges trashing him. Way to go, Anoop.

I disagreed with the judges on Kris Allen and Lil Rounds. Both suffered criticism while I thought they both were fantastic – Kris in particular. It was one of my favorite performances of his.

Unfortunately, Matt seemed very nervous and a little worn out tonight. He is an extraordinary talent, but my gut tells me he will be sent packing tomorrow night unless he can convince the judges he deserves to stay.

Poor Lil just cannot make the judges happy. I think they were way too hard on her tonight and should have at least given her some credit for trying to shake up The Rose (even though I’m not sure I liked what she did to it).

Allison was good. Not sure it was her best performance but I liked it. Anoop really listened to Tarentino and it worked. I don’t remember the name of the song Kris sang but I agreed with Kara. It was one of those *moments*. Don’t know why Randy was so grouchy.

I had just about gotten over Ring of Fire, when Adam takes another of my all time favorite songs and preens it up. I’m sure if I just listened to it and didn’t watch the preening I would be impressed. But, I had to watch it.

Danny was consistent in singing *Let Me Remind You My Wife Is Dead And I Have Very Strong Emotions* Oh, yeah, it was *Endless Love*. And, just like with Smokey Robinson, Danny knows better than the mentor and uses his hands to let out his emotions despite Tarentino’s direction not to. So, all I’m thinking about when he is singing is *put your hand down Danny* (and that his wife is dead).

And Phil, this is a question for you. On average, how many songs are on the list for the contestants to choose from? Something tells me that Mary J. Blige hasn’t been on the approved list all season and I just wish Lil would say something like *you suckahs..if you would put Mary J. on the song list I would sing her darn songs…until you do shut up about it!*

I am very upset with tonights judging or lack of judging I should say. If it is the number one show on TV I am sure Fox can afford to go a hour and a half. I expect to hear from all the judges on all the contestants and so do they. This was not fair to them or the voting public and also they always rush the last contestant. Quit messing around with something that already was working and keep the show on time and with enough time. Also I felt sorry for Lil tonight even though I feel she isn’t the most improved singer she doesn’t deserve all they say about her. They are trying to sway the voting public around to their way. Get your act together FOX and American Idol soon before you lose viewers…………

PS I also wonder what qualifies Quintin to be an expert on a singing competition. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I too questioned the choice of Quentin Tarentino for a mentor. I read on the Idol forums that he is a huge Idol fan and guest judged in Season 3. Plus, his movies, (which are not really my cup of tea) are known for his use of music. I was skeptical but thought he gave some of them really good advice.

Come on people, your criticism on Danny is just getting ridiculous…

You’re telling me your emotions wouldn’t be high if you didn’t lose a loved one? Maybe he is letting it fuel him in the competition, but its for the better. He’s got an excellent voice. Personally, I wouldn’t care if he spent a whole night talking about it. Behind Allison and Adam, it’s easily Danny vocally.

I was very disappointed with the judging last night. They need to back to 3 judges. Now for the judging. They are trying to sway to public for the final 3 and that will be Danny, Allison and Adam. I don’t know why but I am losing interest in this years show. It is becoming very expected.

I think tonight bottom 3 will be Matt, Lil and Anoop, with Matt going home.

I was also put off by the lack of judging last night, even though they still had time to mess around with imitations of Randy by Ryan and Kara. Why did it all of a sudden go to 1 hour when at this point with this many singers they should still be at 1 1/2 hours?

Did anyone understand what Paula was saying to Lil??? I was still trying to figure out what she said as they went off the air! Personally, I hated Lil’s rendition and could not wait for that song to get over with. I also feel that Matt will be going home tonight with Kris rounding out the bottom 3, even though I personally like the song Kris sang.

I think that the criticism of Danny and his deceased wife is just crazy. I have never felt he is shoving it down the public’s throat, He is just singing songs that he believes showcases his voice. Maybe I’m missing something when he does his mini interviews prior to the song but I don’t remember a flashing light above his head saying “take pity on me, I’ve lost my wife at such a young age”! Get over it people…..

I thought Anoop did great last night, he is improving which is the intent of this show. I still loved Adam’s rendition though I’m with Simon, the public is either going to love it or hate it, but then again that is also the premise of this show! Alison did good as always, but I didn’t think it was great.

I’m sure it will be another nail biter results show tonight.

No way is it going to be a nail biter. I think what mamamea said was perfect. It is becoming “expected”. The judges are definetly trying to sway the entire thing. Why bother with phone in votes if they have their mind set up and if the one they choose doesnt win, they take them and work a lot with them after to make them winners. I dont know. Kinda disillusioned with the whole show lately. Nothing like it used to e. I used to get so excited, now its like… I’ll dvr it and watch it later, I have laundry.

I agree, they need to go back to three judges. Adam once again, as usual, wowed the audience. He is just a natural and has the whole package. I see him, Allison, & Danny in the top three.

Disappointing year. Adam is clearly the most talented but is he an American Idol talent. Becoming a recording star won’t showcase his obvious talent which is musical drama. He is so professional it doesn’t seem fair to the remaining contestants.

I would go watch him in musical theatre or can certainly see him on Broadway but I wouldn’t buy an album he recorded.

After him the field drops dramatically this year. Allison for sure should go on. Chris is surprising me each week. Lil has disappointed but feel with the right choice she can compete. Matt would be my pick to leave tonight.

The Danny bashing serves no positive purpose; it is mean-spirited and unnecessary and it needs to stop. If you want to critique his voice or musical style, okay. Otherwise, shut up.

Loved Allison, Danny, Anoop. And Adam does an amazing job of screaming on key. Just thought his performance was a little over the top. Once again, theatrical. But he is good. He’ll win it all. Kris’ voice was great but the obscure song choice didn’t benefit him at all. I hope he makes it through this week. My bottom three are Lil, Matt G, and I suppose Anoop, though he was very good. I’d like poor Lil to go home this week but it may well be Matt.

Well, this won’t win a popularity contest.

I thought Allison was not good. I closed my eyes and just listened, and her voice was all over the place. Her range seemed very limited, maybe she had a sore throat. That performance combined with her being lucky number one lands her in the bottom 3 in my opinion.

Michael Bolton Jr. really changed things up this week. He removed his glasses. I think we’ve all seen that performance at numerous weddings.

Matt was doing ok until he reached the meat of the song. And then he butchered it. Not good.

Anoop actually impressed me last night. Very nice, very soulful and right in his wheelhouse. Should be safe for another week.

Lil, I think all the judges and the rest of America is saying is do not take a song and try to make it an R&B number. Take a R&B number and make it yours. Of course, it would help if she could sing decently and right now, she is most definitely not.

Kris. was. boring. just. like. the. cadence. of. his. song. It was nice, and he should be safe. If that was the first performance of the evening I don’t think he would be so fortunate.

I did not care for Adam’s performance that much. Every note was spot on, and he delivered it with alot of passion. It just wasn’t my thing, but still head and shoulders above everyone else.

Bottom 3 is Matt, Lil, and Allison. Matt is going home (s/b Lil), but if it is Allison I expect the judges to issue the wild card putting her back in the competition.

Well, being the first season I’ve watched American Idol, I have to say I’ve got definite thoughts.

For one, Adam may be good and “head and shoulders” above the rest, but he’s not who I would pay money to hear/see. His screechy renditions of some really good songs completely turn me off. The make-up and obvious showboat tactics are ridiculous.

The rest of the contestants are more what I thought AI was all about. Showcasing some really good undiscovered talent. They all have their ups and down, but any of them winning would be my preference over Adam. Sorry, Adam fans …

Danny has a quality about his singing that is rich and true. Allison is fairly phenomenal for someone so young. Anoop and Kris touch a note in their fans that keep them coming back.

It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Donnamoks… I agree completely with everything you said. AI should be undiscovered talent and that is not Adam, who is obviously polished and professional and a plant on the show. Unfair for the rest of the contestants. And, like you, I would never buy a recording of him singing. He’s entertaining to watch b/c of the theatrics. Not that I enjoy watching him either. Kris to me exemplifies what the show was designed for. He has grown and improved and truly blossomed as a performer. Ditto Matt (excluding last night) and Allison. Not so much Anoop and Danny. Not Lil at all.

Last night was a bitter disapointment, how many movies could they choose from and THOSE are the songs they came up with? As for Chris the only time I’ve heard that song was on the Academy Awards last year, it is nice but BORING! I was in the other room when Danny sang and he seemed very off key this time. And did ANYONE see Simon bobbing his head like Kara while she was giving a critique towards the end of the show…that made the whole evening worth watching! Allison rocked it out, and Adam, well he was just being Adam. I agree with everyone else, I think Lil or Matt is gone tonight.

I enjoyed Adam last night. But then I always do. As for Lil, well she has slipped terrible since her first few songs. Good voice, but just not hitting it right, I guess wrong song choices. I enjoy Matt, but all I see if I watch him is that big mole in the middle of his forehead. I’m not trying to be mean, but it’s distracting. I like Danny too. I don’t see him trying for a sympathy vote, he’s just singing songs that are good for his voice. Which is good, otherwise he might not do well with them. Really impressed with Anoop. He has grown and is really showing talent.

I hate to say it but I have grown tired of the whole mess. The judges seem like they just talk to hear themselves talk. Especially Paula, she just babbles on about nothing when she has nothing good to say, rather than be honest and critical. (Unless of course its your week to go as they have predetermined that beforehand it seems) The talent they selected for the show sucks compared to some of those they let go by the wayside during the wildcard picks. I have liked Danny, Adam, Allison and Kris from the beginning but already find that they are beginning to bore me, or perhaps its just the whole show. The shows time is so poorly managed its not even funny and the time wasted while the judges argue like children has totally turned me off. At least with only two judging at a time they dont have to argue as much. Ok…sorry to whine…I’m just so disappointed in this whole season. Like some of you have said…Adam is probably a sure bet to win but even when he does, its not that big of a deal because he’s used to the spotlight and its just more fun seeing someone win that totally deserves it, but wasn’t expected to be so wonderful. Maybe its this cold rainy ohio day that has me so bummed.

I’m hoping that my 15,000 votes for Matt will keep him on the show for at least another week, but my fav sure hit a trainwreck on the bridge last night…ouch. I still think he deserves to stay over Anoop (even though he did well last night) and Lil (weekly disappointment). Anoop has a fantastic voice on ballads, but when he tries to “throw a little bit of his (my) style into it,” he stinks and it looks karaoke. For Lil, my hot curvy mamma, she’s just been disappointing this season, which I think has to do with the abusive and non-constructive remarks from Simon.

I’m sorry, Phil, but I have disagree with you. Simon may echo out loud what most of us are thinking, but over the years his feedback has rarely been constructive, leaning to verbal abuse on many occasions. He destroys the confidence of young artists in front of millions of people. I doubt very few artists who earned their popularity through other mediums could withstand such a verbal lashing in front of so many people. His comments have started to hurt the show because he causes singers to self-destruct. I know the music biz is hard, but taking your licks in front of a few people is much different than getting spanked on national TV.

Let’s play the game of voting off the judges. Paula can go. She’s looped up most of the time, anyway, and it takes her forever to finish her statements(sometimes no thanks to Simon. No more colors, rainbows, giggly bears, or XANEX for Paula.

I think if they did away with half the commercials, they would have plenty of time for all the judges to comment….on second thought i wish the time limit for commercial breaks should be limited to 1 minute, whatever you are watching…

Poor Lil…..she will be another Jennifer Hudson (not winning the competition but getting a recording contract and spitting out chart-toppping hits). Matt will go home tonight, although he really shouldn’t. I was so unimpressed with everybody, including Allison, that I can’t remember what they sung. Oh well, whatever happens tonight will not phase me one way or the other.
