Michael Sarver Latest Axed

Michael Sarver did not ask for clemency despite his song choice, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and was the latest American Idol to be axed. The judges considered using their veto power to save the oil rigger and family man from Texas, but running out of time, Simon made an executive decision to end Michael’s Idol hopes. Michael will now get to spend a few weeks with his family before returning to Los Angeles for the finale and tour rehearsals in about a month.

Surprisingly, Matt Giraud, the soulful piano player and one of the best from this week was in the bottom two with Michael Sarver, while the visually impaired piano man Scott MacIntyre rounded out the bottom three. MacIntyre was immediately sent back to the safety of the bleachers where Giraud really belonged.

Matt Giraud did not look comfortable waiting his fate, but I would have been shocked if he was voted off. I would have been more shocked if the judges did not dub him the chosen Idol and give him the one pardon of the season. But alas, he was safe and the judges’ save is still waiting to be used.

We had a celebrity-packed evening of performances including Ruben Studdard, Joss Stone, Smokey Robinson and lots of love from Stevie Wonder. Stevie sang a medley of his songs and was able to sneak in a shout out to President Barack Obama.

Next week, American Idol will return to the normal time slot.

What do you all think? Do you think that Matt Giraud deserved to be in the bottom?

No way did Matt deserve to be in the bottom two! I was shocked and horrified at that. Not only because he is so good, but because there were clearly five others that should have been there before him. I couldn’t hardly enjoy Stevie because I just wanted to know the results.

I was equally shocked (and disgusted) that Megan was NOT in the bottom three. How do you explain that? Practically everyone on this blog said she should go (which I believe is indicative of the general public) and yet, not even in the bottom three? Phil, what do you know that we don’t because last night when you said you didn’t think she would go because she is one of only 3 women left, I didn’t quite understand that since that really shouldn’t be a factor with the public doing the voting…??

No way should Matt have been in the bottom three. I figured it would be Michael, Scott, and Meghan too. I liked Meghan in the beginning, but soon realized she’s a one trick pony, would do great with a Norah Jones type of song, but nothing else. Michael is a good karaoke singer but doesn’t have the musical chops to be a pro. Scott is a musician, but he’s so trembly and nervous that he stresses me out just watching him. Kinda like Brooke during her final weeks last year.

Does anyone else feel like there’s a lot more “deer in the headlights” type of performances this year than last? It seems like they’re either REALLY polished (Lil, Adam, Alison) or easy to hear and painful to watch (Danny, Scott, Anoop) or just painful to watch and hear..(Meghan,Meghan,Meghan). I dunno, strange group this year.

Matt was a shocker and I can only think it was because he went first and because people thought he was safe and voted for others they liked in order to save them.

I like Megan but am getting impatient for her to pick a good song. I fully expected her to be in the bottom 3 and perhaps go tonight. She is the Vote for the Worst pick (hardly an honor) so perhaps that saved her.

Whatever you say about Michael Sarver he is a class act. Last week he was reassuring Allison and tonight when Ryan was doing his tease of Lil he was saying *not you* and *sit down your safe* in a very kind way not in a sarcastic way.

One good thing about this group is that whether I think they are the best or the worst of the 10 in terms of talent they all seem like genuinely nice kids and I wish they could all be successful.

For the firs time maybe ever I enjoyed the group song because I love old Motown music. The duet was a little weird for me with such an old man singing a love song to a girl his granddaughter’ or great grandaughter’s age but…thats probably just me. Stevie Wonder was of course Stevie Wonder and what a treat.

So..on to next week. Does anyone know what the theme will be?

Well, I’m bummed. I liked Michael. I know he has so much potential, but he never brought it and I’m not sure why. It was his time.

I still can’t believe that Megan didn’t get the boot. She doesn’t need to be there.

I think Megan and Scott need to be the next 2 to go.

Who the heck is voting for Megan? Are they tone deaf? The girl murdered the song. MURDERED!! Is she the current VFTW pick? (does that still exist??) For her to not even be in the bottom three is simply inexcusable. Matt Giraud certainly didn’t belong anywhere near those three stools. He is more like top three material, not bottom three. I think Matt was the victim of going first on Wed night. By the time voting comes around the focus has shifted from his incredible performance to someone else.

Michael Sarver is truly a class act and I’m very glad he’ll be part of the top ten tour. He’ll add far more than aforementioned woman who cannot sing.

One, I agree that Phil should have a better picture on his blog, that greenish-yellow look is not attractive, makes you look ill, and maybe give us a smile??
Two, I was also shocked to hear Matt was in the bottom three. I can’t help but think that if he could hang in a few more weeks then get the boot, he would be better off NOT winning Idol, then he could go out on his own like Daugherty. Anyone agree?
Three, for God’s sake, someone give Ruben Studdard a sweat band to wear on his forehead, whew it was very uncomfortable watching him sweat so bad! I’ve never been a fan of his, so the sweating was even more gross. ICK!
Four, you can’t tell me that the judges didn’t already know they weren’t going to save Michael, that is a joke! It’s an embarrassment to the singers to make them ‘beg’ one more time.
And finally– number five, it is very rude/childish for Simon to color on Paula during Allison’s performance last night. They need to respect the performers and be adult like and listen to them sing.

Michaael was never one of my favorites but I didn’t dislike him either. I definately think Megan should have went before any of the others. It was just maddening to watch her sit back down when they told her she was safe. I Definately agree with Peg that the contestants are better off NOT winning. Still, I dont like seeing people move on that don’t deserve it. Oh…and can you tell me how a person can color on someone elses face without them “letting” you? C’mon…grow up people!

Very happy to see Michael gone. I did not think he should have been in the top 24 (or whatever they were at when America started to vote). There were a few others that I thought were alot better. He should have went hom elast week when he was in the bottom 3.

I agree, no singing for your life unless the judges seriously want to give you a chance.

Matt – one of the top 3 in my opinion (Matt, Allison, Adam).

I thought Michael deserved the boot – BUT he will be missed. He is very charming. I really noticed that last night. What a smile!!!

What in the world is wrong with America not sending Megan home??? No way should Michael have been booted this early. Never thought he’d make the top three. Adam & Allison are my predictions for the finale.

I totally agree with all the points PegO’myheart made. I was so uncomfortable watching Ruben, I swear my eyes started to burn like I had sweat in them! I know the contestants always sing their song before leaving, but I agree that they shouldn’t make it a situation where they may get to stay if the judges have a change of heart. Whatever…
Why is everyone afraid to say anything bad about Scott? Do we really need to walk on eggshells just because he is blind? Wake up people! He isn’t that good…Send him home. (and Megan too while we’re at it!)
And Phil…creepy picture, dude. Time for a change.

The biggest problem this year, there is a LOT of talent and SOMEONE has to be in the bottom three, I think Megan will still pull out a great song and surprise us yet. Michael was not the best, and just seems ackward on stage-but so does Anoop and it is supposed to be the TOTAL package, at least I think so?
About the drawing mustache thing…I AGREE completley, those judges should be paying attention to the singers it HAS to be distracting when you are up there singing for your life and they are goofing. Perhaps that is why the times I’ve seen an ‘Idol’ live in concert (Clay @ Hutch Fair, Daughtry @ River Fest and Phil @ Greensburg Fund Raiser) they were just EVEN WAY better in person than on the show….yeah that is possible!

I was sad to see Michael go home before Megan. Megan is getting the guy vote. She is very pretty.

Now, I have a question? Did anyone notice that after Adam sang, that Simon said “That is the best preformance of the night”, but Danny and Allison still had to sing. Ryan even repeated that statement when announcing if Adam was in the bottom 3 last night. How could he be the best of the night if not everyone had sang? Did he pull a Paula or are they basing their judging off of rehearsals?

Peace out and on to next week.

Okay i think they should just do away with the group song all together anyway…it was not live, they looked like they were lip-synching and just seemed sorta cheesy.I wish they would just give the results…sigh

I think Megan was TOTALLY surprised that she wasn’t in the bottom 3, along with the rest of America. Matt in the bottom 3 this early? No way. Scott, Michael and Megan should have been there, AND, Michael was the one I predicted to go home, even though he seems like the type of person everyone wants to hang around with. I think he was comfortable with going home to be with his family, He probably knew his number was up this week and had no false bravado that he would continue on.

Lip synch…I had heard that before, but NEVER was it so obvious this time, when they zoomed in on Scott it was just painful to watch…why lip synch on the group number anyway??? I don’t understand-PHIL??? can you answer this one for us??

Why should we have to wait for Megan to pull out a good song and surprise us?? If she can’t do it consistantly she should be gone. And that stupid little twist thing she does is not quirky, it’s dumb. I’m voting for Allison to win this whole thing. Or Adam, I really do like him.

The quest to keep the count even at the same amount of guys and girls showed it’s ugly head this week. Megan is no joy to the rest of the talent that is on that stage, and clearly should have been the one to go. I can’t stand that tattoo on her right arm, she should be wearing sleeved clothes to cover it up. What is the matter with people who get these gawdy things? Don’t they realize they aren’t going to be ‘20 forever’ and pretty soon age is going to creep in and that is really going to look terrible.

I thought it was “A” show this week, Anoop, Allison, and Adam, they were on the top of their game and brought their ‘A’ material from beginning to end. Anoop needs to breath some life into his act now, or he will be going home soon. Allison is the front runner of the girls to get into the final four, which at this stage of the game I am predicting to be Adam, Danny, Allison and Matt G.

No, Matt absolutely should NOT have been in the bottom three! The bottom three should have been Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott. They are mediocre singers at best, and how they even made it this far is beyond me. They must have a lot of friends and family members voting for them…..probably the Sanjaya group! :-)
