Alexis Grace is the latest axed from American Idol. The judges told the pink and blonde-haired mom that if she impressed with her farewell song, they would save her. She did not perform up to the judges’ standards and is on her way home. And if being sent home was not bad enough, she just missed a spot on the national “American Idols Live” Tour later this summer.
Alexis Grace sang Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” but the Dolly comparisons ended with Alexis’ blonde hair and pretty face. The judges believed Alexis didn’t put enough “dirty” rock edge into Tuesday night’s performance, something they believe has carried her through the competition to this point.
The remaining final 10 Idols can now breathe a sigh of relief because they have secured a spot on the official Idol tour. As a finalist during season six, I was able to go on the tour, which is a huge advantage in securing a record deal and media coverage. But more importantly, I was able to sing for the fans. It really is an amazing experience to travel the country for three months and meet the people who helped keep you on the show. Tonight’s “Kiss Off” party, the final get-together highlighted on tonight’s show, will be bittersweet since everyone but Alexis will be on the tour.
This is one of the strongest Top 10 we have had to date. The semi-finals left some people doubting if this crop of Idols would be able to step up and deliver a great season with a superstar winner.
One of the reigning queens of country and American Idol superstar, Carrie Underwood, returned to the stage that made her famous singing with fellow Opry member and this week’s mentor, Randy Travis. They showed the Idols what America expects from winners!
Next week only, American Idol will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 9 p.m. on Fox.

I was truly disappointed to see Alexis go, she’s been my favorite of the ladies, although I have to admit, the song choice and her perfomance was really not up to par comparatively speaking.
Matt, my favorite of the guys and overall, was awesome. He’s a true natural and I love watching him play that piano. I hope he will start to stand out more as we progress to the finals.
Now let’s talk about Megan. What’s the story with her and the judges undying love for her. Yes, she’s cute, but I feel she has never proven herself to be in the same league as the rest. I’ve never heard a great vocal from beginning to end from her, and she definitely doesn’t know what to do with herself while she’s singing. I realize she was sick and power to her, but I listened to her again tonight and thought she sounded pretty bad the whole song and yet the judges thought she was awesome. They must think a “quirky” idol will complete their repertoire…
Yeah, Lyn, Megan even made the tour group which will certainly add nothing at all to that show. Alexis was far better than Megan. Although Alexis seriously did not perform well this week.
Phil, I agree that this year’s group is very entertaining and talented. I haven’t picked out my absolute favorite yet. Danny Gokey is up there, so is Matt G and Kris Allen.
What the heck was up wih Carries hair? I thought she did a great job with Randy Travis but I seriously could not stop trying to figure out what had died and crawled onto her head. I told hubby…she’s gonna be so pissed at her stylist when she sees the tape of the show and sees how freaked out her hair was.
I too do not feel that Megan was as good as Alexis. However, I have serious problems with how the judges tell the contestant that whether or not they give them their “save” is based on their performance RIGHT THEN. I don’t really believe that. I think they pretty much know who they feel they should and should not save. I do not think they make their “save” decision based on that performance. To me, that is misleading and not fair to the contestant. I felt so sorry for Alexis when she was performing and they were talking the whole time while she was performing to “save” herself..anyone else feel this way?
Phil,
I was so sad that I had to wait a day for your thoughts!! I so look forward to your response. I understand you are out on the road, so not criticizing. Just letting you know that you thoughts are anxiously awaited!!! I was on the Brett and Tracy Show in Wichita Wednesday, and I saw the autographed picture they had there of you!! It was sooo cool!
I wish Megan would have left instead of Alexis. Megan is a one trick pony and at this point it feels like all of her songs sound the same! Alexis had a better vocal range and wasn’t afraid to try new things. I was sad my boy Michael was in the bottom 2, but I hope it was his wakeup call that he needs to step it up a notch. His song choices have been terrible as of late! I think Matt and Danny are the 2 to watch this season.
Finally some talk about my main man, Matt. See my post a couple of weeks ago complaining about this same thing. I could judge this show for a lot less than they pay Paula in pharmaceuticals. Someone should make sure she’s not seeing Anna Nicole’s shrink. Megan should have gone home…end of story. Michael Carver has made it this far on likeability, but he’s not that great of a singer. Nice, nice guy…can’t stand his voice or his chops when he’s singing. Open your mouth bro…a….r…..t….i….c…u….l….a….t….e
Phil, your pic at the top of your blog is awesome. You stare right through me, man. You have that look like, “dude, I’m bald and cool and stuff, so what the heck are you going to do about it.” Money, bro. Pure money.
Nancy, I totally agree re: the “save” song. That is unnecessary cruelty to make someone sing for no reason while the judges chat through the whole thing. They knew Alexis was history.
Alexis was one of my favorites too. I was hoping that Michael Sarver would go instead of her when it came down to the last 2 even though I like him. Basically, now that Tatiana is gone I like ALL of them personally and hate to see any of them disappointed. (Although Adam better quit making it all about him and more about the music or he will be on my bash list). When they announced Alexis was singing Jolene I was thinking *oh no*. Brooke sang it last year and it was the beginning of her melt down. Its not even remotely one of my favorite Dolly songs and it is evidently suited for Dolly’s voice and hers alone. (I’m sure Mel will be ready to offer up at least 45 people who have sucessfully covered Jolene!)
I don’t think Alexis was well served by Kara’s advice to *dirty it up*. I wish Kara would cut out the sexual innuendo she does with nearly all of the contestants.
Im tired of people saying that this is a great group this year. I thought last years was the best!!!!! Sorry Phil!!! you were good too…
