And Three More Are Chosen

Yes, I am a little surprised by the results tonight.  The truth is, I didn’t even remember Kris Allen’s performance at the end of the night.  I did go back and watch it and I am actually glad he made it through.  He sounded great in some parts of his song, but there were some rough spots.  But he has a great voice and I will be looking forward to seeing more from him.

There was a small part of me that expected an upset from Nick Mitchell aka Norman Gentle.

Allison Iraheta was the best performance of the night for me and I think she has the chops to go very far.  Adam Lambert has some skills and I can easily see him in the Top 6.  I think after we see next week’s performances we will have a more clear picture of who we really need to be watching for.

Until then, be blessed.

I thought the three moving on tonight were the right ones. I would have liked to see they guy that sang “Georgia” during the hollywood week go on and I’m hoping he’ll get be one of the wild card picks. I think Simon kind of hinted that maybe a couple from tonight might be back. I’m thinking the “Georgia” guy (sorry, cant remember his name) and Allison (even though I didn’t like her dancing). I just hope that next weeks show is much much better. Also…did anyone else notice…no more sobbing parents on the red couch after each performance. I am grateful for that but am getting a bit tired of the cheesy banter between the judges and Ryan. Especially the bickering. Maybe it was entertaining (and I use that term very loosely), back in season 1 and 2 but it’s very old and not a bit fun to watch. Jeez, I sound like an “Idol Hater”…but I’m not, I swear!! Just tired of the old Schtick.

I’m a huge fan of Norman Gentle, and I am very angry he did not make it into the Top 12. His was the best overall performance, not vocally, but entertainment wise.
Now if there had been a handful of excellent singers last night than I would say I was just biased because I like Nick, but honestly, the talent was not great last night and I believe Nick deserved a spot in the Top 12.
Allison and Megan were the two best vocalists last night, and I am also mad that she didn’t make it.
In a perfect world, I would have liked to have seen the two girls just mentioned, and of course, Norman Gentle.
I hate, no despise, Adam Lambert. I think his voice is piercing and unpleasant. He is way too full of himself. The way he looks at the camera and makes awkward facial expressions is just disgusting. I knew he was going to make it regardless, considering Idol placed him last, just like they did with Danny Gokey the week before.
About Kris Allen, he was pretty good, but I don’t think he will stand a chance in the long run. I like him more than Adam, however, that’s for sure.
I’d also like to say that I hope Norman is given another chance in the Wild Card. Knowing that the judges pick, not America’s vote in this case, I think Nick would sick a bit more seriously, and in that case, he might be able to get Kara, Paula, and Randy’s vote. I’m not sure Simon will ever be a fan of Norman Gentle.
In any event, I think we will be seeing plenty of Norman in the coming weeks, as I’m every day time show is going to want an interview and performance. And if he doesn’t get picked for the Wild Card and he is absolutely done, I wouldn’t be suprised if he was there for the finale to do some epic performace.
    Go Norman!

I was on the phone with my sister during the show so just saw it sporadically and through closed captions. I was surprised about Chris but I like him so I’m not sorry he made it. I also love Norman. I don’t despise Adam but I really hated his performance last night.

I would have liked to see Megan or Jesse go through although Megan really has to quit that manic dance move she has. Better to simply stand still than that stuff.

I read that in an interview Simon hinted that the wild card round may include people cut in Hollywood. Is that just wrong or what? It makes me even more convinced that some of these top 36 were chosen simply to be cannon fodder for the favored contestants. Which is not fair to them or to the audience. Ah well, overall, tonight’s picks were ok.

I have to admit, I do not understand the love of many for Norman Gentle. I don’t think he can sing, or at least hasn’t really tried to since he’s so busy being funny, and I use that term loosely. I want to see really good singing, which brings me to Matt (Georgia guy). I was ready and waiting for his performance with eagerness, only to be greatly disappointed in not only the song choice but his performance of it. I still voted for him, because I’ve seen what he’s capable of, and want to see more of it. Hoping he’s a wildcard. I thought Mishavonna and Jesse were the best girls last night (other than Allison). I thought the judges were pretty hard on them. I didn’t think Megan did as great as everyone else did and that herky jerky dance move was extremely distracting and strange! I was sure the judges would comment on it, but apparently they really like her (and have from the start) so they didn’t say a word about it. Jury’s still out on Lambert. He’s pretty good and definitley someone you remember. I really loved seeing Brooke White tonight. She was one of my favorites last year.

I think the best 3 performances were voted through. There doesn’t appear to be any gray areas with Adam Lambert, people either love him or hate him. He represents a Steven Tyler type of talent to me, and people usually either like or dislike Aerosmith too. His voice is unusual, and that will carry him far. Kris and Allison also were very good. On a night when pitch seemed to have been a forgotten element, these two did extremely well.

I was disappointed this morning when I fast forwarded to the end of the show (I’ll have to rewatch so I can see Brooke White–LOVE her!), and when I saw the three finalists I was disappointed. Adam Lambert hurt my ears, Kris Allen–or however you spell that kid’s name–reminded me of a freshman in high school who hadn’t quite hit puberty yet (sorry!), but Allison, she rocked out. Of the three, in my opinion, she’s the only one that deserved to be on that stool. Loved Megan and Mishavonna (and her name)..and my fiance was rooting for Matt B. the whole way–whom I think is a white version of Ruben Studdard…soft, gentle, and you just want to love him..but he didn’t stand out.

Overall, Season 8 is not starting off well for me, but then again I never really like the season until the end when the last few good singers are left. LOVED Season 7–Castro, Brooke, Cook, Carly…loved them all.

Amen, Kari: Brooke White was the highlight. She never really fit with the cheesy emo-anthems this show demands, and it’s good to see her back doing the stuff she does best.

Norman was kinda growing on me. I’m sad to see him go, but he definitely wasn’t right for American Idol. I’m glad Adam and Allison both made it, I think they are pretty good. I found Kris’s performance boring and didn’t pay much attention to him on the first go round. I just hope that all these people realize that when it gets to the top 12 time that they really really really need to step up their game! America is a tough audience! (I know…understatement of the year! lol)

Just a reminder, I called this thing last week. Adam Lambert is the next American Idol.

He will turn down the theatrics, sing a couple tender love songs and America will melt. There has NEVER been a contestant on any episode of Idol that has his range. The only artist I can think of with that type of range was Freddie.

I agree, that Adam will probably be the next winner. I don’t like him though. He is shrill and pitchy. No what I mean, dog?

Ellen–keep in mind that American Idol is not just about singing. You have to have stage presence, a “look”, charisma, charm, and one heck of a voice to make it. Norman Gentle was a hysterically funny character that didn’t serve his singing-counterpart justice in the end. Nick really can sing, but his act was way more entertaining than an awkward, weird-looking guy standing behind a microphone singing pretty.

Norman Gentle will become a another comic on the circuit, While he can sing (to an extent) he true calling is to entertain people with his comic antics. I can see him doing small venues and probably becoming well known.

Mishavonna will without a doubt be coming back as a wildcard draw. I like Adam (though I prefer country) and he will probably be in the final 2. Allison is probably the female to beat at this point. Even though she is young, unless she just completely falls apart during the season she will be on Idol for a long time.

I am looking forward to next week, It should be interesting.

If ONE more person compares that freaky Green Day wannabe to the GREAT Steven Tyler, Im going to scream. Seriously. He is so commercial and cliche it is ridiculous. He is going to be my thorn in my side through this entire “competition”. I know the teeny girls are going to vote for his stereo type. ANyway, I doubt I will make it through the whole season without screeching louder than he does.

I went to Youtube as Hum suggested. I was a bit surprised. I watched several of the videos. I think hes very talented but kind of odd. I’m not going to judge him in the roles he was obviously portraying…but I thought he sang well. He obviously has a lot more stage experience than some of the other contestants so perhaps that will help him in that he is more comfortable performing onstage.

I like Adam Lambert’s voice. I’m not so crazy about the persona he has adopted and I hated his Satisfaction performance. He is a cliche to me. But fundamentally, I am really not happy with this season’s format nor with the talent they have chosen to put in the top 36. I have seen some flashes of originality in Megan Corkrey and Jesse. And Alexis Grace as well.

This week the pimp spot will go to Lil Rounds. I hope she can do better than that Hollywood version of Whitney which the judges loved and which I hated because she seems like a a genuinely nice person who deserves a break. But I am really tired of hearing nice people who have no talent getting creamed by the judges just so they can do this new format.

And…I know this is also blasphemy…even as an old fat lady I like the men to have some sort of oomph that makes my toes curl a bit. Gay man in eyeliner and nail polish does not do it for me any more than pubescent Archie did.

LOL Monica, I know what you mean about the eyeliner and nail polish. Thats a bit over the top for my tastes too. I also didnt really care for the “Satisfaction” but I still felt he had alot better vocals than most of his competition that night. I thought Archie was ok last year but I know what you mean…David Cook is way hotter than anyone I’ve seen so far this year…and I dont mean looks…just his personality and charisma and his performances…they sizzled in my opnion. I feel like a star struck teenager with a big bad crush :) Hubby enjoys teasing me about him too.
