So the first finalists officially named are Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey … What do you think? Did they get it right?
I personally felt that Anoop Desai was a little robbed. No, he didn’t give the greatest performance we had seen from him, but we know that he is capable of greatness. But to be honest, I suspect we will see him return as a wild card just like Clay Aiken did Season 2. And I expect he will make it to the Top 10 as well.
Michael Sarver will have a big Texas fan base pulling for him, but I think he would gain a much broader fan base if he would start singing country music. Come on, Michael! Your life is a country song! It is who you are!!!
Anyway, I felt bad for Tatiana, but it was bound to happen some time or the other. Next week is a whole new lineup. Is there anyone we should be watching out for? We’ll see. I’m still waiting for a girl to knock one out of the park.
Until then, be safe.

I felt bad for all of those who didn’t make it but felt less bad for Tatiana because her dramatics will ensure her a wild card spot. Anoop will be there too and that is good. It was close call between him and Michael Sarver because I don’t thnk either sang up to their potential. I just didn’t like the songs they sang.
I feel bad for Rick Braddy who we never got to know. I hope he gets a wild card too.
Now…I know this is blasphemy…but I am really really tired of Saint Danny using his dead wife for votes. And, I was sort of put off by his absolute shunning of Tatiaina when she tried to do a *together* moment in the waiting period. Yes we all know she was not sincere and had probably never even bothered to talk to Danny the whole time but he, knowing he would win, could have at least thrown her a little bit of of a hug. Of course everyone is in the moment and it is the biggest moment of their lives (well not for Danny but we have heard about that a lot) so maybe he was just nervous. Still…I’m keeping my eye out for a big ego there.
Sorry…you can flame me and I will blame all those snarky comments on the nitrous oxide I had at the dentist today.
I just don’t have anyone I’m really connected to yet.
Both my boys made it! I’m super happy!
The result was not what I expected tonight but the performances were less than stellar last night too. If Anoop is not brought back in the Wild Card round, this season will be missing a great talent and many more viewers. He has a huge fansbase already.
Yeah, Monica, that was snarky and I don’t think nitrous oxide could do that. Danny’s voice is getting him the votes. But I’ll forgive your snark. We all have our moments.
I will deeply miss that adorable Anoop. Oh I do hope he draws the wild card. It was sad to see only three make it from this group… not sure I like this new/old methodology.
Hawkmama, I like Anoop too and the Braddy guy. I think Danny bothers me because I am comparing him to David Cook who had a brother dying of cancer which was NEVER mentioned by him even when Ryan practically begged him to talk about it on air. Danny is good. By far the best last night but I just wish he would lay off of the sympathy vote. Its not like anyone has forgotten his wife died. Does he have to mention it every time he talks?
I hate this new format. About 6 of those performing last night shouldn’t have made it out of Hollywood. They were just canon fodder for the show. And there will be talent cast aside.
I just hope Tatiana doesn’t make it back; she drives me crazy. I don’t care if she CAN sing; her histrionics ruin it for me.
Did I miss something? Yes, I remember back during auditions weeks they did some background on Dannys story, what he had been through, losing his wife and all. I never ever have heard him personally mention it since. Even when they asked him why he sang Hero, he didnt say, “I sang it for my wife”. No, he just said I sang it because it is a message of hope, that you can make it through bad things happening to you now…etc. (or something to that effect). Yes, the camera did pan to a shot of his friends holding up a pic of him and his wife but that was not HIM playing the “dead wife” card. Ok…thats my thoughts about that. I thought he out sang the others anyway. I will agree that I didnt care as much for his performance of that song as well as some he’s already sang but he was still better than the others. I too hope that Anoop gets a wild card spot. He was gracious about not making it in last night. That along with his talent should earn him another chance. Others have done less and got “one more shot”. Ta Ta Tatiana…jeez..her primping for the camera was just disgusting and hey…did anyone else think that SHE was the one that totally shunned Danny when his name was called? I thought it was her being a poor sport not to hug him and congratulate him…she just turned away and even when she walked back over to the other contestants I thought she sort of acted like…”leave me alone…I’m mad…” That was jsut my personal opinion…maybe some of you saw it differently. I did notice though that she managed to work her way around to the other side of the group so she’d be in the background of every camera shot while Danny was singing. Yikes…I’m sounding a bit “snarky” myself but thats just how I saw it.
Pauleygirl, I agree with you about Tatiana shunning Danny. She turned away from him either because she was so upset or so mad about it. When she walked away, I thought at first she was just gonna walk of the stage! I know she was upset, but she could’ve been a little more gracious about losing. It seems as though that from the beginning, everything was always about her, and it was that way last night as well.
I don’t see Danny as using his wife for votes at all. I saw it as nothing more than what he said…sending an encouraging vibe out to others. Remember, his wounds are still fresh — she has only been dead for maybe about 10 months. I think its admirable that he wanted to sing a song to encourage others going through a tough time. I think he’s a strong guy to do this instead of just curling up in his shell after her death. He seems like a really sweet person, and with a great voice.
I don’t like the way the Top 12 is being chosen this year either. All the better singers are more likely to make the top 12 when you are voting off the bad and allowing the good to return for the next few weeks. That way they have a chance to sing several times, build a fan base, and not be voted off right away. Who knows, if it had been this way last year, David Cook might have been voted off too. He continued to rise to the top from week to week as we saw him sing more songs. If he had been in a group with 4 or 5 good singers, as was the case last night, he might not have made it, just as Anoop didn’t (And Rick Braddy! Where did he come from?? If he had had more TV time, he might have made it in as well). I feared for Anoop when I got no busy signals for him at all. In fact, the only ones I voted for who I got busy signals for constantly were Danny and Alexis. None for Michael and Anoop. If the voting was to vote out the bad and keep the good, Danny, Alexis, Michael, Anoop, and Rick would all still be there for sure to sing for another couple of weeks. I hope Anoop is a wild card. He deserves it. And Rick.
Pauleygirl, I have to agree with you. Titiana was nothing but a drama queen last night. Just before Ryan said who was going to make it, she just kept flipping her hair and posing for the camera. I think they put her on last with Danny so that she couldn’t cause such a fuss the whole show. When everyone was trying to console her, she just kept turning away. I also hope that Anoop gets the wild card. What a nice guy and he can sing too!
Very well put, Pauleygirl. I agree completely.
I am thrilled Tatiana is gone – don’t think I could stand to see so much from the drama queen each week. Seems like every thing is all about her. “me me me”
I think we need to see Tatiana and Bikini girl on the Rock of Love show or something like that. That would be crazy!! Both of them backstabbing each other.
I do think Tatiana has one of the better voices for the women. But as we all know, it’s not all about the voice.
And I am still holding out for Anoop. I picked him from the get go, and I still think he is one of the top 3.
OK OK It was the nitrous oxide. And Tatiana was a very poor sport and she was flipping her hair for the camera during the waiting period. I think my brain was reveresed a bit last night. I bet Anoop and Braddy come back in the wild card round. I read on another site that they used this format Clay Aiken’s year and he was cut from the top 12 and came back as a wild card. Alas, that may mean that Tatiana comes back too.
I kind of thought Anoop would make it instead of Michael. Really doesn’t matter I’m just extremely glad that the whiny drama freak is gone. On to next weeks 12 to see if anybody interesting comes out of that group.
Okay….well I was happy that Danny got through but honestly I’m not a big fan of the other two. I think they’re okay but I didn’t care for the song Alexis Grace sang. I think the judges push for their favorite by what they say, how much the camera is on them and how much they tell their stories. I’m sorry but their life story shouldn’t be on the show. We don’t want a winner chosen because of their story but their life! We can find out about their life later but for now lets concentrate on their vocals and stage performance! Will we care about their stories when they’re on tour? Will it make a better performance? No!!!!
You have some of the contestants that were never shown and some that was briefly shown. How are they to compete. Danny had a ton of fans before he even opened his mouth to sing. Don’t get me wrong he can sing, but I think it’s unfair to use his story.
The wild card from this group I’m hoping will be Brent Keith. He would be an amazing country artist!!!
I guess we’ll wait to see but I, for one, am glad that Tatiana has gone goodbye!
I’m happy to see Tata is gone and hope they don’t bring her back for the WC. I was surprised to see Michael instead of Anoop and hope he’s brought back; he deserves it. There were only 20,000 votes seperating him and Michael.
As for Danny. It’s not so much that he is talking about his wife; it’s Fox and everyone else that keeps telling us about it over and over. What a horrible thing to have happened to him, but now is the time to focus on his talents and not so much his backstory. He’s good… but I agree with Simon; he’s not great. He is a good performer, but has a somewhat limited vocal range. When he can’t reach a note he covers by growling..it will be interesting to see how the competiton goes for him. He has a huge fanbase because Fox pushed him on us from day one. I feel sorry for Ricky. He has a great voice, but Tuesday night was the first time we saw him. That seems very unfair.
No one mentioned Alexis… she could come out and just beat all these guys. I think she has the complete package.
There are some good people we have yet to see in the next 2 weeks. It will be interesting to see what happens. I’m not sure that I like the way it’s one guy, one girl and then the next top vote getter. It should be the top 3 from each week; regardless of gender. However I think they are afraid that they would end up with a top 12 of 10 guys and 2 girls.
I am glad Danny made it through because he does have a stage presence AND a great voice. I really do not remember him saying anything about his wife on Tuesday before or after his song. I don’t think he’s the one bringing it up.
Michael came in over Anoop? While I think I will enjoy watching Michael and know that he will bring something different to the mix, I can’t believe he got more votes than Anoop and I’m agreeing with everyone else he will be the wild card coming back.
Alexis absolutely should be in the top 12, She will be a fantastic one to watch.
Tatiana, did anyone else notice that last night she didn’t seem to have her accent? That girl seems to be seriously on drugs and She seems to be the type of person that I would worry about retaliations! Hopefully the producers and judges will NOT allow her to come back into the mix. Physco girl needs to go back home and stay there.
WOO HOO!!!! Tatiana is gone, gone, gone! For now, anyway. Oil rigger’s performance DID NOT outshine Anoop….only kept him in because he’s as the judges say “a hard working, clean-cut guy who needs a break.” Let’s hope the next group can sctually set the etage on fire and SHOW why they deserve to be there in the first place.
Sorry about the typos, was going too fast!!!
I thought Anoop losing to Michael was a tragedy. Keep in mind that there are only 3 wildcards, so that doesn’t leave much room for hope for those that went home.
I’m going to side with Monica on part of her comments. I don’t see Danny using sympathy to buy votes, but I do see some potential for some ego. He had his arms crossed or in the pocket of his pants when Tatianna and him were standing on stage. I thought he seemed cold, but I don’t know the guy, so maybe I’m not being fare. He seemed pretty aloof, but again, maybe that is how he handles the pressure. Either way, I like the guy, but I’m keeping my eye out as well, Monica.
Still can’t believe Michael beat out Anoop. Michael’s follow-up performance last night only served to cement my confusion. Both seem like nice guys, but Anoop took the news with alot of grace. I sincerely hope he comes back as a wild card, and I wasn’t a big fan of his early on…especially when he came completely dorked out to the audition.
Also, one last thing. Please lay off Tatianna. I really do believe she has some mental health issues, and has been victimized (partially her own choice..but she’s also oblivious to reality) by the producers on this show. I won’t through out a diagnosis (label), but she is obviously suffering from some imbalance.
Stacey’s Phil I agree with you about Tatianna being used. It was never more evident then when the judges were upset she was all goofy on Tuesday night… oh and their big surprise that she could sing….umm correct me if I’m wrong but this is a singing competition and I would assume you put someone thru to the top 36 because they can actually sing. Her ability to sing should not have been a surprise to them… just saying.
Adam Lambert is your next American Idol. Game, set, match.
Jerry–Adam is one that I’m actually looking forward to seeing. I hope he is as impressive as he seemed to be during auditions and hollywood.
Stacy’s Phil,
You are right. I’m done slamming Tatiana. I really hadn’t looked at it that way until now. She truely must have some major problems to behave the way she has. Lets hope she gets the help she needs.
I liked Tatiana as well. I would love to see her Live on Broadway. It’s great to women like her.
thought Anoop was better than Gokey. Like Simon, I don’t buy the Gokey hype. Anoop has so much to offer as a STAR. Anoop is a STAR. I hope some smart agent calls him and then Anoop doesn’t have to bother with AI.
I would like to see Ricky Braddy as a wild card. He can sing.
