Okay, so I take back my premature complaints about the lack of hometown visit footage on Tuesday night. Tonight’s installment of “American Idol” was chock full of homecoming excitement, all of which was well-edited, fairly moving and pretty informational.
We found out, for example, that David Archuleta isn’t always so robotic. Watching him get choked up at his hometown rally reminded me that he’s really just a little boy stuck on a ride he can’t get off of. Not that he wants to.
We also found out that an elderly dignitary in Sarasota, Fla., can do one heck of a handstand and isn’t afraid to prove it.
And in Kansas City, we learned that John Holt (formerly of KSN fame) is indeed still alive and kicking … and employed!
After a full hour of all of that, we also learned what we sorta already knew. Syesha is done, and the David-David showdown is on. That’s probably as it should be, though I still say David C. is the bigger of the two talents.
A few observations: Syesha was among the more gracious losers we’ve seen this season. The girl got to the TOP THREE, and she took the news of her ouster with poise and dignity. Even more, not a single note of her farewell song was garbled by excess phlegm buildup caused by excess blubbering. Bravo, Syesha!
I also was struck by how far David Cook has come in the image department since the early rounds. I barely recognized that kinda pudgy, kinda awkward guitar guy at the auditions. Those “Idol” stylists are nothing if not masters of the makeover.
So what did you think? Are the finals as they should be? Would you ever thrust your infant into the arms of a moving “American Idol” finalist? And will next week indeed be, as Simon predicted, a “HUMDINGER?!?!?!?!”

David C is more professional and ready to cut a disc than little David. He could go into the studio now and have a hit soon. I’d buy it. David A is talented, I guess, but something about him bugs me. His raspy, airy voice bugs me. And why does he always look like he’s about to pass out?
David C can take it all. Here’s to hoping he picks the right songs!
David Cook is the best contestant ever to hit the AI stage. If there is any justice in the world, he will take the crown next week and be put in the hands of producers and engineers who will be respectful of his style - the result? An incredible album that pays tribute to the amazing artist he is.
GOOD LUCK COOKIE!
PROOF OF AMERICAN IDOL FRAUD!!!!
This is the second year in a row that American Idol has had a songwriting contest. Since the contest ended last year I’ve researched the contestants from last year and this year….FYI there were over 25,000 entries last year at $10.00 for each song. 20 songs were then chosen out of the 25,000 for an online vote. The winner’s song is then performed on the American Idol Finale. The problem I have is that one of THIS years Top 20 Songwriting Finalist is a Co-writer of LAST years Top 20 Songwriting Winner.
Somebody from American Idol has some explaining to do.
THERE IS A LOT, LOT, LOT MORE!!!!!

Well tonight was predictable on American Idol so let me comment on how proud I am that a full-figured model won America’s Next Top Model! Oh, and David C better win or I will never watch another season of Idol.
Once again I found the opening number to be quite lame and painful to watch. Ugh…if Idol is looking for ways to improve the show…that’d be my first suggestion. Lose it!
Denise, You forgot to comment on the Fantasia performance???? How could you forget that?
David vs David will be a great show for David C. It is my belief that David A will choke on the last show due to nerves/emotions. David C. will deliver just as he has all season long and will be named AI. Wasn’t that a great hometown visit shown from the KC area? I think David C is probably a very grounded young man and his family should be very proud of him. We were up there this weekend visiting family and that is all that was being talked about up there. I am not a young person anymore and I listen to country most of the time but I do guarantee that when David C’s. cd comes out it WILL be included in my collection.
I think the two best contestants are in the final. I love how unpredictable David Cook is in what he sings and the different arrangements he does, but he seems little arrogant to me. David Archuleta is so sweet and humble, but too predictable. Everything from him sounds the same, but he has a great voice. It doesn’t really matter who wins at this point. They will both have record deals waiting for them no matter what.
Even though Syesha didn’t make it to the finale - she will still make the BIG TIME - she has an excellent career ahead of her. I think David C. will take the crown. Either way - they are both winners and bet they both get cars. Good luck guys!!
little david a. has talent, and a lot of it,he will do just fine, either winning on coming in 2nd place. i cannot tolerate looking at the cook boy.. he is unclean, his boots look like he could take off in them at any given moment, his toes point up.. He is much more then showman then dave a. but he doesn’t have the charmisma that the little guy has .. don’t matter what happens, they both have it made… and yes i love little dave a… clean cut, and a babe in arms.. just hope the spoils of becoming a super-star doesn’t change him…
syesha has it made too.. she is a beautiful young woman with a very big talent and she will go far… glad she had a chance to prove herself before she was booted off.
Denise - I was also looking for your take on the whole Fantasia performance. We were laughing so hard - that was just strange. I will give her credit for being high energy though. Did you catch when they zoomed in on Simon’s expression (a cross between bewildered and horrified)? Simon’s look was so funny that we rewound it 3 times!
Go David Cook!!!
Ok, was it just me or was Ryan more annoying than ever? Ug, he makes me want to gag! And Fantasia?!?!? What the crap was that, was it singing…I’m not sure? And she won American Idol? And they let her come back? (What the heck?) I was horrified…sorta like Simon! His face was priceless! lol Anyway…when I got past that…and I quit crying from all the home town visits, it was all good and I can’t wait for Cookie to take home the gold!
The finals should have been with David C. and Michael. They were the 2 big talents, and true performers, however, David C. is by far the best all around. He is just heaven to listen to. By now, America should be able to see this without any question. Let David A. go home and back to school and grow up a bit, then come back and do it on his own terms. He has been pushed so hard by his dad, and has had no chance to be himself. He has the possibility of being a singer in the future, just not now. Besides, he is sooooo creepy to watch, I just can’t do it.
Two things, dear readers.
1. I didn’t comment on the Fantasia performance because, YIKES, what is there to say? I actually only watched the first few seconds and was so frightened, I just hit fast forward to get to the good stuff.
2. Monica, you okay?????
With the way Syesha came on in the past few weeks… she had come alive on stage… I’m disappointed that she’s gone. In my mind she has a much better future in the industry than little David does. Next week’s show could have been electric if the two remaining contestants were the performers… Syesha and David Cook. It would have been a much more entertaining show, and would showcase the two who have the best opportunities for long-term careers in the industry.
Both David are very talented. Both have unique styles and that will be the determiner. which has the most mass appeal. Love them both.
Fantassia - well I agree with Simon. If Ryan didn’t introduce her I wouldn’t have know her. What a change in styles!
I don’t think Syesha is going to go very far. She may get a record deal, but we won’t be hearing much from her for long. I will say she stepped it up the last several weeks of Idol. She just isn’t good enough to take the title.
David C? He’s pretty good, although I agree with whoever said he’s arrogant. I think he will get a record deal no matter what, and will do ok.
David A will be the winner of Idol this year and rightfully so. Get him a manager and out from under his daddy’s thumb and this kid will go far. His dad hurts him more than helps him. And yes, he does look like he’s about to pass out, but I don’t think this kid understands how good his voice is. I think it will be close, but I think & hope he wins the title!!
If you watch Syesha’s farewell performance as I have several times now, it very much appears that she was lip-syncing the song. On the final note, she is smiling with teeth closed but yet her note continues. Just an obervation. Maybe the producers had each top 3 finalist sing their farewell song for such purpose to enable the finalist to leave with dignity and not all choked-up as experienced before
Monica is fine - she’s traveling today.
I’m sure she’ll post later tonight when she reaches a resting point.
Apparently no one has missed me. I’m so hurt.
Actually, I didn’t get to watch Tuesday night’s show because I’m out of town on a lovely vacation. I did get to watch the performances on-line, sort of, although I had to fight our house-sitter for TV time with our Sling-box. (Anyone know what the heck I’m talking about? It’s a cool device for watching your own TV anywhere!!) David Cook took the night for me. And I loved the recap of the hometown visits. KC loves DC and so do I.
Here we go again! More nonsense talk about a nonsense show. Wow, what important, life changing moments will take place on the next show? I can’t wait!
Idol? GO AWAY! Your presence is not needed here!
Syesha and David A. just don’t have it. Neither can carry a tune for even one whole song. David A. forgot his lyrics again this week, that is 3 times now, and he is soooo creepy to watch. I hope I never hear of either one of them again, since we have had to endure their so called performances. The ONLY performer left is David C. At least he can play an instrument, perform, not forget his words, and really understands music. He ia a true idol and will be a big star. He is so humble and appreciative of all his praise. He really deserves this over anyone there. I just don’t get the people praising Syesha and David A. Don’t you have ears? Anyone can hear how off key they get, and of course, the missed words.
I simply must respond to ‘another oldie’s’ comment… “i cannot tolerate looking at the cook boy.. he is unclean”. Huh??? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve read on these blogs yet! You also say how much you love David A and that he is “clean cut”…. so I can only assume that you base the “unclean” opinion on David C’s scruffy facial hair? So.. facial hair makes a person dirty? Really?!
David A. is an awesome or he would not be where he is today, however, he does have that awkward childish camera appearance - a bit goofy & silly. However, David Cook is professional and really connects with the audience and has great camera appeal.
Hey Hum….If I left this blog what fun would that be? Then you guys would have nothing to do but watch American Idol Rewind. I don’t know how I can wait until the results are announced!
Idol? Bite me!
Ack…I missed Syesha’s last night. Instead of watching idol I was having dinner with my very best friend in the whole world. Now that I’m at my destination I will getting back into idol addiction.
I just don’t see what all the fuss is about David Cook. He’s OK, but if this is a singing competition he just doesn’t cut it. Syesha or David A. are both better and David A. should win.
Isn’t Syesha the greatest? Somebody just sent me a link that her fan club website is for sale. http://syeshafanclub.com I would totally buy it if I knew how to run a website! Love your blog!
