There was a moment Tuesday night, shortly after Brooke White stopped and started her song — for the second time this season!!!!! — when I thought to myself, hmmm. Now if I were a very cynical person, I might think that Brooke possibly just pulled that little stunt on purpose as a last-ditch, desperate bid to cause an “Idol” stir, drum up a few sympathy votes and buy herself another week.
I am a cynical person. And although I really don’t think her flub up was part of a calculated plot, it still was a pretty clever thing to do. Brooke, as a result, is staying, despite her ongoing on-screen unraveling. Better than that, she’s not even in the bottom two. Brilliant!
She stays, but Carly Smithson goes, done in by one too many performances heavy on the vocal chops but light on the charisma. I won’t really miss her, though I didn’t really dislike her all that much.
Does anyone else wonder how much longer Syesha is going to keep skating on by? What is this, her seventeenth trip to the Loser Stools? Not sure how she’s pulling it off, but she’s got to have nerves of steel by now.
So what do you think? Was the right person sent home? Will Carly find a career… this time? And did my ears deceive me or are we getting NEIL DIAMOND week right on the heels of Sir Andrew week???? Why, this makes up for a thousand Mariahs and both weeks of the Beatles. “Idol,” you’re forgiven.

AI has now jumped the shark, if someone can pull a Tonya-Hardingesque “Can I have a do-over” TWICE and not even make the bottom 2 this time. And jeez, if Neil Diamond is the best they can do at this point of the competition…zzzzzzz.
Oh man, the idol.com forum boards are hopping tonite! Brooke and Jason fans are elated and Carly fans are sreaming bloody murder at the unfairness, the stupidity, the bigotry, of American Idol voters.
Brooke’s flub probably did get her sympathy votes but…I don’t think it was purposeful. Ryan would not shut up about it tonite….shouting *FOR THE FIRST TIME IN IDOL HISTORY*…showing the clip of her flubbing up…asking Andrew Lloyd Weber about her flub up. Asking her about her flub up. But, I was pretty sure she was a goner and I guess sympathy, her fans, and an assist from votefortheworst.com saw her through.
With the way too much time on my hands I perused the boards today and learned two things I did not catch last night. Both David A. and Carly either messed up or forgot their lyrics but plodded on through their performances. And, I didn’t catch it tonite but I guess Carly just couldn’t resist her little dig at Brooke because when she finished her song, she reportedly said *and I didn’t forget the words*…sorta mean I think even if you are in the bottom 2. And what was she bending Ryan’s ear about in the middle of Syesha’s performance? That appeared rude but perhaps Ryan was the one who started the conversation. You know…the more I think about it I’m glad she is gone.
And, if you just go by the comments on this blog, she for some reason, just didn’t inspire people. She just wasn’t that many people’s very favorite. And, her elimination gives me faith that Idol isn’t totally rigged as I know that the producers would love to send Jason home. What a hoot he is…yawning! Gotta love it!
I don’t know about Leona Lewis. I didn’t like the song and it was too Mariah for me. I was just waiting for her to put her hand up and wiggle her fingers like Mariah…at one point I think she came close to it.
Well on to Neil Diamond…here’s hoping that Syesha will be traveling away with Rosie a week from tonite.
All I can say is What the heck?!? I have no words for what happened tonight! I was sure it was going be Syesha.
Again this week it was a personality contest and not a singing competition as the dreaded locks got away with another stinker of a performance. How does he do it? I think it is all those little teeny-boppers with mama and daddy’s cell phone that are text messaging like crazy and voting for him because they think he is cute. Has anyone caught on to the fact that he is almost an exact copycat of John Travlota’s character Vinnie Barbarino in “Welcome Back Kotter” with his patented ‘what?’ persona? I really think that Carly was so cool about being booted because she has the recording deal with Universal Records and got a million bucks up front and then her CD stiffed big-time. I think we will see a new album from her soon, and we haven’t heard the last of Carly Smithson.
I still stand on my prediction that, unless one of them really screws up, it will be the two David’s in the Finale.
Next week is Neil Diamond, they have saved the best for last, and it should be a good week for all, but I think Jason will be booted off to make up for the screw up this week. I predict Jason will try to sing “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” and screw it up bigtime. Should be a fun week next week, which will also feature a live performance by Neil Diamond on Wednesday’s elmination show.
I Was Sad To See Carly Go.I Was Very Much pulling for her to get through this to top 3.
I’m sorry..But Carly Absolutely Kicked Syesha’s Arse BOTH times she performed A.L.W.
Who Needs Another Whitney Houston??? Syesha needs to pursue Broadway..her Never Ceasing Impetus Towards “look-At-Me” Cupie-Doll, Drama Queen” behavior would be best suited there. So Of Course she stood her ground this time around.
As For Jason,He’s Soulful..Not Kitchy.Too Soulful and NonMainstream to have been prepared for A.L.W…and Everyone Knows that. Having Said that, He Did Wonderfully on “Memories” as Foreign as it was to him..Let’s be Alittle Nicer Alright..he didn’t even Know it was Originally Wrote for a CAT.
Jason is an ORIGINAL..Lock,Stock and Barrel…not Interchangable, and certainly not a SellOut. I Give him Props For Staying True To Himself..His True Fans LOVE that about Him..and Haters..You’re Not Supporting Anything About Him..so I’m “Sure” He’s Gonna Be Crying over the “Loss” of what you’re Not Giving Anyway.Whatever.
Brooke is human..and transparently so,it’s one of the things I Actually Like About her..and the fact that she’ll be Grateful for the success garnered from this, not all “See,I KNEW I had it in the BAG..Now Everyone Bow Down and Kiss My Arse,Cause I Rock”,has my hopes for her success tethered to her.
They Let One Of The BEST Go tonight. Ce La Vie.
What a travesty, two girls that had excellent performances are in the bottom two. And two (Dreads and Stop and Go) who didn’t are not, what a joke.
So far so good. Im not sure how much longer I can take the dreadlocks though. Autumn, Whats With The Caps To Start Your Words? Its Very Annoying. And Neil Diamond? Is that the best they can do???
Every American Idol blog I say the same thing: I dont care what order the other singers go home as long as David Cook is the winner in the end!
I couldn’t get over the “yuck” factor with Carly. Everytime when she finished singing AI gave us the obligatory “Carly’s husband and friends” shot. Her husband is a tattooed freak show which I must say really gave me a very negative opinion of her.
AI desperately needs a successful male idol, and Cook is it. No way they will allow him to lose.
So I’m a little sad to see Carly go–I think I might’ve been one of her only fans. I enjoyed her earnest personality as well as her never-dying will. Hopefully she keeps that up and can get a record deal worth having unlike her first one.
After Tuesday night’s performance–and being the Phantom of the Opera junkie that I am–David Cook is my offical new favorite. I cannot believe how well he hung that song. He even threw in the conviction that the Phantom has when he sings it. I had no idea David could really sing–I just thought he knew how to warp a melody or two and jazz it up. I was completely blown away.
Can Syesha go home? Those dimples on her chin and that fake smile are just killing me. And if Jason got rid of the dreads, I think I’d like him more. Brooke needs to breathe and not be so serious…she’s fantastic, but too nervous!
And David A makes me gag. I don’t like him at all–but the 12-year-olds sure seem to!
It was shocking to see Carly go, but I wasn’t disappointed. I had nothing against the tattoos, hers or her husbands. Didn’t like the tattoos but they didn’t contribute to the fact that she just really wasn’t that good of a singer. The back-up singers out-sang her by a mile. And she had to really alter the melody to sing the chorus of JCS because she was unable to reach the notes. The result…wailing.
Although…. Jason stayed??????? Now that is wrong, after his performance this week. And the YAWNING….?? puhleeeeeeze.
I said earlier that once Brooke got past the false-start she actually did pretty well. So it wasn’t too surprising that she stayed.
David Cook is the real deal. Crown him now.
As I said before - America is full of surprises and last night was no exception. I thought for sure Brooke’s journey was coming to a halt, and so did she. But it was only down to 6 and somebody’s gotta go - I think it should have been Brooke - I love her dearly - but she really messed up BIG TIME!!
I’d have rather seen Syesha gone but according to IDOL predicability it most certainly will be Jason next week. Have to keep the boy/girl/boy/girl pick off going. I was torn between two channels. At the same time Carly and Sysesha were in the hot seat on Fox, the GMA Dove awards were live on cable from Nashville. And there on the stage singing around the grand piano with Michael W Smith and Amy Grant were Chris Sligh, Mandisa, and our own Phil Stacey! How cool is that?! Phil really sounded great singing MWS’s “Place in this World”. You go Phil - but please grow some hair on your bald head. But I digress…. David Cook is my man. I’d rather see anyone in the finals with him other than David A. but I’m dreaming.
Sorry, David Cook is good but Archuleta wins it.
Knock it off about Brooke making a mistake. So what, she’s human. Just because she forgot the lyrics, that doesn’t make her a bad singer. I’m sure many, many great singers have had times where they forgot the lyrics at one time or another. She has a great voice. I’m glad she was not in the bottom two. Same for Jason. Both have a real unique quality to their voices. America got it right last night. The two Davids are still front runners though. Time for Syesha to go next week. Totally sick of her.
Am I the only one who gets bored to tears during every David A. performance? Sure the kid can sing, but he’s got the personality and charisma of a paper bag. Carly wasn’t going to win, Brooke won’t win, and Syesha won’t win, so it doesn’t matter to me what order they go down. David Cook is the most talented by a mile, as a performer, and will be the season’s success story.
You guys either don’t KNOW music or you’re just looking for the status quo. Syesha is the BEST female vocalist on this show. Whatever her best genre is, she has a strong, pure voice that is not strained or fake. Although the history of this show has never been about who is the best vocalist or entertainer, I’m sure some record label will snatch Syesha up in a heartbeat. Quit hating on real talent and be for real, people!
Brooke stays for another week? There is a God. Then again, so does Jason. Somebody take that kid’s bong away. Or at least pass it around to the other contestants.
One thing’s for sure: I’m through trying to predict what the unwashed millions will decide. All I can conclude about Carly’s departure is that sporting a tattoo the size of a child might not be a certain path to success.
Having been involved in music now for over 30 yrs, I can say without any doubt, Syesha and David A, CANNOT SING! They are off pitch constantly, even last night, Syesha was off several times. Carly had a few pitch problems, but she is a true performer. David A. just stands there and sings what sounds like the same song every week. The wrong person did go home, but until people with any knowledge of what pitch, tone and true music is, they will still be there. Jason has a very calming voice and I could listen to him over a bottle of wine and relax anytime, but the only true winner left is David C. He is tremendous. Archie wishes he could sing and perform like him. And I hate how everytime he sings, the camera pans to his overbearing father with his stupid hat. He doesn’t even have enough manners to remove his hat indoors. Enough of the crap and get rid of these 2 wanna bees.
Babs, sorry, but I mute or check out PBS when Syesha’s singing. Don’t like her style, can’t tolerate her voice, and, frankly, it grates on me like she’s off-key at some point during most songs. After she’s gone, THEN it will be painful to see the contestants sent home. On another topic, I like Jason’s dreds.
I am soooo sick and tired of the Brook defenders going on about “she’s human! Humans make mistakes!!”
If this was American Human or America’s Lamest Excuses for Screwing Up”, then you’d have a point.
This is a competition, and people work hard to be the best they can and to not make mistakes, and now you say it doesn’t matter. Be crappy. Be lame. Be a loser.
Just so long as you’re human!
Tell you what, the next time someone drives drunk and kills someone, just remember that they’re human and humans make mistakes. It might be an extreme example, but if you can apply the New American Slogan to one thing, you should be able to apply it to all.
No wonder America is dumbing down. Succeeding now means that all you have to do is try. You don’t even have to do well. Just make a lame effort and cry about it afterwards.
Lamelamelame, you are so lame. This is a TALENT contest. Brooke has talent. Even TALENTED people make mistakes. If your favorite contestant, whoever that is, missed a lyric, does that mean you wouldn’t vote for him/her anymore? My guess is, you would vote for him/her anyway because you like her and think she has talent. We all have our favorites. You need to look at the OVERALL competition and not base your opinion of whether someone is good or not based on one week.
Oh, and she wasn’t crappy, lame, or a loser. She started over because she knew she messed up. That took courage on her part. And her performance after the restart was FANTASTIC!
Why all the hatred for Neil Diamond? This is going to be a great week on Idol. Jason Castro, I predict, will attempt to sing “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” and seal his fate and get voted off, and it is him that goes next week, because of the boy/girl/boy eliminations that go on, and no way is either David getting the axe. I am looking for some really good songs next week and maybe David C. will surprise us with his take on the Diamond classic “Love on the Rocks”. I truly think that they have saved the best mentor for last, and anyone who knows anything about music knows that Neil Diamond is giant in the industry today. After over 40 years in the business he can still sell out arenas in a moments notice. Not many other performers can say that.
In my opinion, Carly did the best on Tuesday. I couldn’t believe that she was one of the bottom 2. Syesha… yea… she needs to go… but like Randy or Simon said… it was a popularity contest.
Jason won’t go because like someone else mentioned, the teeny bopper girls will vote for him regardless (my daughter being one of them).
David Artichoke is good, but not as good as everyone wants you to think he is. Get rid of his dad, and let the boy sing!!
I think they’re keeping Brooke around just because of her goody two-shoe persona. She’s never seen an R rated movie. Never had a drink of alcohol. Etc…
David Cook for the win!!
When your reply is longer that the post…zzzzzzzzzz.
Jason has John Travolta eyes - but is so darn awkward in front of the camera.
Okay…I realize that Brooke White made a mistake and even feel a little sorry for her, but the “poor innocent me” and the “you really hurt my feelings” attitude and the pout — especially the pout, have made me lose any and all respect for her. I understand that we’re all humans and that we all make mistakes. I also believe that she’s got somewhat of a decent voice, but I just cannot stand her attitude. If she had a record deal and still acted like this, no matter how much I liked her voice, I still would not buy her album.
I think it’s a crying shame that Carly went home before Brooke.
Oh — and on David Cook winning? You bet he’s my favorite and I want him to win, but I almost wonder if he wouldn’t be better to “suffer” a fate like Chris Daughtry! Get him out a little earlier and Idol will have spring-boarded his career, but not sucked him up in their machine where he has no creative control.
It should be an interesting end to this season.
If Sheryl Crow, during her concert here in Wichita, can stop because she messed up the words and says you have to accept that happening in a live show, then why can’t Brooke White?
Had the person being sent home been chosen simply based on their performance the night before, Jason Castro would have been gone. I really liked him at first, but now he makes me think of Amanda, totally one-dimensional. Every song sounds the same.
I just cannot find anything I like about David A. But he does seem to be the judges favorite!
