Dirty tricks

images.jpegBlog friends, I chose the WRONG night to stay out too late.

I apologize for my tardiness. I took a much needed girls’ night out on the town and as a result am now writing this blog way too late, which means that Ryan Seacrest’s dirty nasty mindtricks have thrown me for a loop.

It is after midnight, but Kristy Lee Cook IS gone, right? And David Cook was NOT in the bottom three afterall. Right? Am I right??? Please tell me I’m getting that right????

Dirty nasty Seacrest mind tricks. I don’t appreciate it.

At any rate, KLC is gone. Syesha or Brooke may be next. And at this point, that’s probably how it should be. Though I might passionately argue that David Archuleta and Carly Smithson both deserve a little quality time on the dreaded bottom three stools, it’s getting late in the season, so our favorites are going to start facing jeopardy more and more often.

I will say that Kristy Lee left with grace and dignity — the kind of grace and dignity that could be acquired only by a young woman who’s known for the past, oh, six weeks that she was done for. I will sort of miss her “Oh, fine, Simon, what now?” spunktitude.

Brooke will now have to fill that spot.

So what did you think? Did “America” get it right? Were those Cook tricks as dirty and rotten as my out-too-late brain perceived them to be?  And what happened to the rest of Mariah’s dress???

YES! KLC is out finally, although, I was beginning not to hate her so performances so much. I have always thought she was a nice enough person just painful to listen to and so awkward on stage. Maybe she will get a country record deal. And David Cook was not in the bottom three and those were dirty mind tricks that Ryan pulled. I knew something was weird because I tried off and on for two full hours to vote for David Cook and the line was always busy and he was standing in the same group with Kristy Lee and Brooke. I don’t think I got through once.

And yes, next week will probably be time for Brooke to go as its Andrew Lloyd Webber week and Syesha will pull out Don’t Cry for Me Argentina or Memories and do her self-indulgent vocal acrobatics which the judges will say are good and which will give me my usual Tuesday night headache. And Brooke will not have the big power voice to compete with those. So, unless Carly really messes up, Brooke will be the one to go. :( .

I am anxious to see what David Cook and Jason do next week with Andrew Lloyd Weber. Whatever David A does it will be slow, sweet, technically perfect and boring.

It is obvious that the judges have their favorites and push those. I don’t think David Cook was one of those favored ones when the season started, but his true talent made them have to reconsider.

I do not think KLC has anything to worry about, a modeling agency is going to grab her up, the camera loves her.

I do not feel any love for David Archuleta, I am ready for him to go.

All I really care about at this point is David Cook taking home the big prize.

Regarding Mariah’s choice of fashion, I must say “It does not behoove a woman of her parameters to wear spandex”. Especially such a small amount of it. Anyway it looked like something on the order of spandex to me and it was not a flattering sight to me. Of course it probably was to the male population.

Re: KLC. I was kind of sad that she left before Syesha and Carly. But she’ll be fine. And she is part of the Idol tour which just might be a fun thing to get tickets for. My dialing fingers will finish out the season voting for David Cook.

I did not find Mirah Carey entertaining at all – she has a vey dull voice and not much personality at all. Ryan keeps the show interesting – I really like him alot. America made the right choice – I cried for KLC- what a trooper she was and I do hope she gets her horse back. And Elliot – my word he has changed so much – for the better – so sad his mother has passed as I saw her in the audience supporting him all the way.

I can’t wait for next week. I’m a ALW nerd. And the following proves it: David Cook will rock out some “Jesus Christ Superstar” I just know it. David A will pout through something from “Cats” (If he sings “Memory” the wretching you hear will be me throwing up hairballs.) Syesha will cry for Argentina and Jason will do some off beat something from “Starlight Express” sans roller skates. Brooke will do “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and Carly may do some JCS as well. Glad KLC is gone. I don’t think I could handle a countryfied version of “Music of the Night”.

I missed Mariah’s dress! Only because when she came on, I left the room until she was finished. Does she ever NOT wear spandex that’s way too short and way too low? I’ve never seen it. Maybe I missed it last night.

I was ready for KLC or Syesha to go. KLC did go with class. I loved it that she sat there and sang to Simon before getting on the stage. The girl has guts and personality. Next off — Syesha. I am tired of her superior attitude.

KLC actually smarted-up a little toward the end. She realized she fell into the country genre, with a patriotic twist. Sure enough, it kept her there a few more weeks. I bet she’ll do well for herself (Elliot Yamin has a record?).

I liked Ryan’s little trick. It was fun. You’ve got to admit you ALL were freaking out trying to figure out (1) why David Cook was in the bottom 3, or (2) how Brooke and KLC were in the top 4! We were at our house.

Poor little David A. Trying to be so diplomatic with his sit-in-the-middle act (copied from last season) – didn’t even catch Ryan’s direction to get up and move over here. That kid just can’t think unless baseball-cap wearing stage-dad tells him what to think.

Quit picking on poor little David A. He’s one of the most talented young contestants they’ve had for a long time.

Yes, you finally got KLC out of there, but left us with Syesha and David A. who are like fingernails on a chalkboard when they sing. I can’t stand them anymore. At least KLC did have a much better voice than either of them. It is soooo painful to watch David A. sing, let’s put him out of his misery now. David C. must win it now that Michael is gone.

once again, and again, I’m not sure where all the hate for David A (and his dad) comes from. I have a 17 year old son, and I attend all of his functions and root him on like there is no tomorrow. There is a lot of prejudice against a family without much backbone to it. And once again, (and again) the young man can really sing. He’s not much different than Josh Grobin to me. Boring (yes, I do agree to that) but very talented, and will do nicely.

Kristy Lee’s time was up. Who’s next? It will definitely be someone very good.

I wish Syesha would have left last night but that was not going to be the case. KLC was starting to improve (or maybe she had just finally found her niche). Anyway, hopefully Syesha will be leaving next week but somehow I doubt it.

I loved the song Mariah Carey sang “Bye Bye” – but she looked like she was leading an orchestra. From what I can see she does not have much personality. But does have a unique voice – and that what has made her what she is today………………millions!!

Hey all, I’m a fellow Kansan but can’t share your opinion that David Archuleta ‘deserves’ a spot on a bottom-3 chair. He is remarkable. I can’t wait for the CDs and concert dates. The fact that he is 17, but refuses to choose risque songs (which would catapult his popularity even higher) speaks well of him.

I actually look for David C to do something from Phantom. But JCS would be good too. I actually wish Brooke would do Music of the Night acoustically. Think it would be beautiful.

Was actually a little sad to see KLC go. Wish it would have been Carly or Syesha, or even David A. However, next week wouldn’t have been good for her either, so it was probably for the best.

Man .. wonder what Jason WILL do next week. That might be a challenge, yet, might be a chance to do something and REALLY make it his own. We all know David A will do something “syrupy” and Syesha will do her verbal gymnastics again. Could be a good week for Carly’s strong voice. Only 127 more hours till we find out!

Am I correct in saying David A and David C are the only two who have not been in the bottom three? I predict the winner will be one of the Davids. Syesha will hopefully be the next to go, then Carly, then probably Jason, then Brooke.

kdub – It’s one thing to support your 17 year old son by attending his functions. It’s another to make him cry and get booted off of the Star Search set for intimidating the competition. Which is where my “prejudice” for David’s stage-dad comes in.

    http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/03/59501/index.html

As I said before – I think David A will win the competition. He needs to. David Cook and Jason Castro can go out tomorrow and sell albums: they’re unique enough to make their own successful careers. David A will need any notoriety that AI can give him (Taylor Hicks, anybody).

I can’t understand why all the dislike for Syesha? I have watched her from day one. The girl has chops and can sing. I am glad she is displaying an air of superiority – it is nothing but confidence. She is proud to be a proud African American woman. I for one hope that she makes it to the final. Of course I agree with the majority of you that David Cook will win – but I am sick of his rock style of singing. Actually – they are are boring this year. David A – BORING – please send that kid home and put him out of his misery. I wouldn’t buy his record. Carly – horrible – send her home – rock star wanna be. Jason – to painful to watch him – no personality, no character – forgotten already. Brook – has potential if she can muster up some confidence – not a star, at this point. Kristy – stayed longer than she should have. She can’t sing, and she act to clueless for me. I am so GLAD she is gone – enough already….Last but not least, Syesha – as I stated before the girl can sing. Enough said. Now…the only true idol…He left last week. Michael..got voted off too soon. He should have won this silly competition hands down. He was the only “real” singer with “real” talent..

Sad to see little gutsy Kristy leave, but she had the nads to put it all out there and did her farewell with class by singing directly to Simon. I liked that a lot. I don’t worry about her because she has talent, she was the sickest of the contestants who had that flu bug that was going around, and it really affected her singing for the first few weeks. She will be around.

And yes, Elliott Yamin has an album, in fact he has a second one in the works right now, the first one did so well. And he has really polished up his act, and it was a gutsy performance last night so soon after the passing of his mother (his biggest supporter).

Next week Andrew Lloyd Weber week, and it should be very interesting to see what David Cook chooses. Carly had better come out very strong, and Syesha needs to step up and out a little bit more. They both are on the edge of going home, although personally I wish that Jason Castro would go, not because of his talent, but because of his retro ‘dreads’. I can’t watch him sing because of that hair, and I know that hair doesn’t make a person, but he just doesn’t fit the mold of a person who wears those sort of ‘locks’. I am holding on to my prediction that it will be the two David’s in the finals. My final four, in my opinion, will be David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, and Brooke White. Let’s see how close I come to that perfect guess of the Final Four.

I didn’t know there were so many jealous people out there who talk bad about David A who is the most talented person in american idol! He is far from boring he sings from his heart, not his mouth like some who only know how to scream in a song, every song david sings is heartfelt and passionate, it will be the two david’s at the end but it will be david A that wins for talent, mark my words!

Good God Almight! There are a bunch of jaded people on here for speaking so utterly disgustingly about young David A. Never mind that he has such a beautiful voice and is musically gifted … never mind appreciating that he is singing his heart out and believes in singing for the absolute pure love of it. And if you even doubt his sincerety and good natured then you all are a sad bunch indeed. David A. is pure joy and inspiration. I wouldn’t put any stock at all in any media reports of his dad whatsoever … those magazine shows are made up of all vultures. Go David A … Our true American Idol. I will be watching for you out there and rooting you on!

JCS is my absolute all-time favorite rock musical!! If Carly can put enough emotion into it, I think she’d bring down the house with “I Don’t Know How To Love Him.” It could be her “moment.”

Hey Cindy..actually…now that I think about it Carly may do it with I don’t Know How to Love Him…if she can just do the soft notes..I actually liked what she did this week softening up some notes in her song. Of course she has been on my not hate list since she mentioned the spanx.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see them all do something against type? Brooke singing Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and Jason doing the Judas song from Jesus Christ Super Star? (Which should be David Cooks song but I bet he will surprise us). Syesah will do memories..she just has to..its like that line in the movie with Geena Davis and Tom Hanks…high and fast she cannot leave them alone lol!

And for the David Archuleta fans… No one here has criticized his singing or musical ability. Or his personality. He is a sweet kid. And he can sing sing sing! he just sings crap that no one wants to hear other than Imagine which was his best moment on the show. But of course he had been singing that at bar mitvashs for years. I do not wish a 17 year old sweet kid ill, but come on….i’m a great aunt and he even bores me with his choices. if you are going to do the great american songbook then at least sing my funny valentine like melinda did.

I can understand critiques for song choice etc…. but the low blows like singing at bar mitzvahs, etc. … totally unneccessary and tasteless. And I disagree with Monica … he has chosen very popular songs from the Beatles, Mariah, Dolly, etc… not crappy songs and certainly not boring, but insprational … they are all great songs and he has done them all justice and more. Go David A! Straight to the top! You deserve it! You are the best!!!

You people supporting David A, and Syesha are either nuts or tone deaf. They have NEVER been on key throughout an entire song this whole competition. It is very painful for anyone musical to listen to. David A. is just to immature, and so is his voice. He looks scared to death of that father. He might do OK away from him, but at 17, he can’t get away. He’s just not ready for this. Syesha should have never even made it to the final 12, but they thought she would improve, which she has not. At least KLC, did improve and change, it is the same thing every week with Syesha and David A. Most of the other contestants pick challenging songs or rearrange their own music to make it unique, these 2 just get up there and play karaoke. I am sick of people who don’t seem to know anything about music voting for the people that should be gone, while the truly talented get voted off. Let’s have a true AI, like the idols chosen in other countries. They can go right out and have million selling albums. Ours, have to have months of coaching and instruction first, then most fade away. If the American people would use their heads, and choose a good one, we can all be proud.

  30. Davis
    Posted April 18, 2008 at 2:27 pm | Permalink

If you find David A inspiring, good for you. But you don’t know that he ‘believes in singing for the love of it’, or is any more ’sincere and good natured’ than any other contestant there. Just ’cause he has perfected the innocent doe-eyes, doesn’t mean they’re real.

But I agree with Michelle (and most others here) that he’s too immature, and too boring to be an Idol. Every song he chooses sounds the same, and he hasn’t yet learned how to make it his own. He sings it the exact same way it was originally sung. He needs to grow up a little and find a unique personality before he’ll be a “star”.

And singing at Bar Mitzvah’s isn’t a “low blow”. He did it, it’s true. David Cook sang at several dive bars around KC and Lawrence. So did Carly.

Maybe winning AI will provide David A with all the coaching he needs to develop a personality and have a career. But we’re entitled to dislike him until then.

A lot of people obviously love David A because he’s yet to be in the bottom three. Yes, he’s young and immature. But that doesn’t mean he can’t sing. He has a beautiful voice. I thought from the first time I saw him during the auditions that he would probably make it and win AI. My opinion hasn’t really changed. People like Carly and David C are a dime a dozen…rocker wannabe’s. That doesn’t mean they’re not good. They will probably make it whether they win AI or not. At this point in the game, they all have the same chance to make it in the business or not.

welll tonight i consulted with an expert who has actually had an operatic career. and i asked her who i was right or wrong on. she immediatle acknowledged an personal interest in david cook. well we are from around here you know and it is not unlikely that david cook would be connected to someone from wichita.

she thinks carly is good but thinks she is trying too hard. she liked cristy lee cooks voice too (which made me wonder if I had chosen the right critic but she is the expert not me and she did admit that kristy lee singing eight days a week was a complete disaster).

her first impression is that the men are better than the women.

it pains me to say it but she is lukewarm on brooke and jason.

she wants david cook to win.

she has also said she realizes how wonderful david a’s voice is but worries he has peaked too soon. she agreed that if he had been given 5 more years to develop he would be great and not subsidizing his dads singing management company which purports to have managed star search and american idol contestants.

bottom line..opera singer says what all of us have said… david cook rules.

and man this opera singer would make syesha weep in shame.
