What a tearful hour of television!
Between Ramiele crying for herself, me crying for the Ethiopian children, and Brooke crying for Ramiele, herself, the Ethiopian children, Dolly Parton and Jesus, there wasn’t a dry eye in the… world???
Yes, it was a bit of a sad installment of “American Idol” tonight. I was not sad to see Ramiele Malubay go. She was — and I can’t believe I’m about to type this — even more deserving of the “Idol” ax than Kristy Lee Cook (who despite limited levels of talent at least ATTEMPTS to inject a little soul into her singing). But poor Ramiele. A good singer, she nonetheless saved every iota of the emotion in her teeny tiny body for each week’s evicted singer. For that person, she would weep as though she was sending her grandma to the gallows. But when it came to showing emotion during performances, poor Ramiele was a mother board away from robot citizenship.
But make no mistake. Just because I think the right person was booted does not mean I’m happy about tonight’s results. Brooke in the bottom three? Come now. The cynic in me hopes that the producers occasionally put a marketable front-runner in the bottom three just to drum up voter support and ensure they’ll stick around. Surely that’s the case here. On a side note, although I do love Brooke as a performer, I wish the girl would SHUT IT when on stage. She talketh too much. Blah blah blah blah blah IT’S OKAY! blah blah blah blah blah. Â
So what do you think? Was it Ramiele’s turn? Is Kristy the most gracious soon-to-be-loser you’ve ever seen? And will you buy our boy Phil Stacey’s album when it comes out on the 29th, granted he shaves that dreadful beard-thing between now and then?Â

too bad they didn’t do Justin Timberlake songs….she could have sang “Cry Me a River”
It was shocking that Ramiele not only cracked the bottom three but was voted off the same night. Whew, though. Poor little thing has a fabulous voice and I think with some maturity she may someday have a musical career. But it was time for her to go. I’m with you, Denise…. Brooke in the bottom three? How the heck did that happen? I guess the truth is she won’t win it all and every week now someone with a lot of talent will be waving goodbye. But to have her on the silver stool and Syesha on the couch is unthinkable.
Every week…. what I’m about to say is going to cause some folks pain…. but every week I like Kristy Lee a little more. Her voice is really quite nice. And her grace under pressure is admirable. Amazing. Remarkable. Kind of cute, even.
Anyway, little Ramiele is gone. She surprisingly gave a great exit performance even after The River Malubay, as you cleverly called it, Denise. You’re a hoot.
I agree, it was a sad show tonight. Not because Ramiele got the boot….that was the highlight of the evening. Though Brooke really needed to cut that hug in half. Good grief, I didn’t know if Ramiele was going to be allowed out of Brooke’s arms long enough to sing her swan song. Not that I was looking forward to listening to Ramiele again. But really, what the heck was that group of guys singing “This Little Light of Mine?” They had to be some of the worst I have ever heard. I like Phil S and am glad he’s got an album coming out and he will be playing RiverFest again but that beard has GOT to go. ugh……
Did anyone else feel Diva Syesha thought her version of Dolly’s song was one of the best ever sang? She wouldn’t admit she clobbered that song on her way out the door. Next week just say no to Syesha!
Ramielle had to go this week, but like Denise, it was way too emotional for me and I felt like a heel because she is obviously a nice girl and one of the group’s favorite people. She just is not ready for this yet although I hope at some point she will be. Actually, she probably won’t be.
I had predicted the bottom three would be Ramielle, Syesha, and Jason. Did not think Brooke was her best last night but definitely not bottom three material. I thought Kristy would be safe because of her country song which she didn’t stink up even though I liked Jason better . Boy…did I hear something different than America did (although I’m not complaining that Kristy was in the bottom three).
I have now become an absolute Syesha anti-fan. I would willingly listen to Kristy twang for two more weeks to see Syesha get her justified comeuppance for her self-satisfied, self-indulgent, mind numblingly boring, and increase the intensity of my sinus headache performances. I mean Kristy is awful and should have gone weeks ago but at least, as Denise says, she is in there trying to do her thing better each week. Syesha is just…*here i am…diva queen* every week…yuk!
Brooke should probably quit talking but they all should actually. Although Carly was kinda funny tonite when she suggested that she didn’t think Simon would apologize anytime soon. And..I am warming up to her. I mean any woman who admits to wearing spanx to look thinner is someone I wouldn’t mind knowing. She is not FAT!
I’m hoping this high blood pressure scare is only a blip for David Cook. The article I read said that he has a brother with cancer who has suffered some relapses lately and that has been a worry for him (well..duh!). Classy of him not to mention it. I suspect if it was Syesha or David Archuleta it would be mentioned every week ad nauseum. Plus, David A’s dad would be holding up a picture of the sick sibling in the audience at every camera opportunity.
It occurs to me that I’m grumpier than Simon tonite!
memaw… you are absolutely right that syesha thought her version of And I will Always Love You surpassed both Dolly and Whitney in brilliance. When questioned about her choice by Ryan she looked absolutely shocked that anyone would think she had mucked it up. This is why I am on a fervent anti-syesha campaign and probably need to take some pills (if I only knew which ones to take) to chill out. All I know is that she makes my Excedrin Sinus medicine inoperative.
I thought it could possibly be the night. I had my fists primed for a triumphant pump and my lips ready for the forthcoming “YES!!!!!” when Ryan would utter those sweet, sweet words, “Kristy, the road ends here for you tonight.”
But I suppose it’s too much to ask that the least talented person left go home. At least she doesn’t make me want to vomit violently like that conceited hair monster we suffered through last season. Besides, this “Aw schucks, I think it’s the stools for me,” routine is getting old. How many weeks is it that she’s done that, five? So over it. So over her. Wait, I was never into her.
As for Miss Shyesha, her number will be up soon. Her song choice could have gone a lot worse given those who sang it before her, but she seems drunk on her own greatness.
As far as the whole Brooke incident, I figured she was safe and the numbers are getting small enough that our favorites may fall on top of the bottom three from week to week and be just fine.
BTW, I love Dolly, but not so much her song tonight.
Wow, I can’t believe the level of anti-Seyesha attitude out there. I thnk the cat’s claws are out! I personally think she has a terrific voice & did a fantastic job on her song this week. Just because she smiles a lot & tries to look like a star on stage doesn’t mean she is a diva. She is certainly not ahead of Michael, David Cook, Carly, or even David A., but she doesn’t deserve such attacks. Also, sorry, Denise, but I really liked Phil’s new beard. It kinda balances out the bald head. I thought he looked much better with it. So, to each his own! I do agree with the vote to oust Ramiele. She has a good voice, but not the maturity or stage presence to be a star, as evidenced by her meltdown at the end. I was afraid Brooke was going to suffocate little Ramiele with that hug.
Clarification: If you all are referring to the hug that happened when Ramiele found out she was in the bottom three, it was KRISTIE doing the hugging. Brooke had already gone to the safe couch, remember? But yes, it did last waaaay too long. It looked like she was sniffing armpit.
I read this blog week after week and totally enjoy it, but by the time I read it, everything I feel has already been said either by Denise or the posters.
However, there is one thing I’d like to comment on after watching the re-cap of last night. David Archuleta has a great voice, but if he were to be THE American Idol I would be very displeased. He’s so perfect he should be one of the backup singers. He’s boring, perfect, young in an immature way. He’s just kinda weird and rubs me the wrong way. No flavor. Whomever said a while back that he would do well in the Christian genre is probably correct.
Yeah, I agree somewhat with mw. I like little David just fine. But he’s not ready to be a full-on star. Give him five years to hone his stage skills. Put him out on a mall tour and record a little album for his obvious teenie bopper following. By the time all of that is over, he’ll have finished school, grown a few inches and developed into a young pop star with some stage presence.
I will definitely buy Phil’s album. He was my favorite from last season and is a great singer. As far as his scruff, I think it makes him sexy. He looks good with and without it. It will come off for when he needs to do stuff with the Navy, with whom he has re-enlisted as a reservist. But he can keep it. It is ultimately his wife, anyway, who should decide that, and as far as I can tell, she is okay with it.
Thank you America - you got it right again - I was getting tired of the crying, pouty lip, hands crossed over chest like a three yr old. Ramiele had no pizzzzaz at all. She has great vocals but not for winning AI.
mw, Thank you for pointing out correctly that is was KLC not Brooke doing the endless hugging on Ramiele when she got the boot. I stand corrected! mybad…….
Thank God for my DVR and the fast forward button! Who were those three creepy guys and guitars? And Dolly, really? I do like her, but come on.
While I think Ramiele is cute, and all of the other idols apprarently like her a lot, it was her time to go. I liked her, at first. But over the past few weeks, she hasn’t pulled out one good song.
Even Kristy Lee Cook pulled out God Bless the USA - miraculously saving her from her inevitable fate.
But poor Brooke. While she clearly will not be the winner (we all know the winner is David A.), she does not deserve to go before Syesha and Kristy Lee. I will assume this week was a fluke - like when Carly randomly appeared in the bottom 3 - and that America will adjust accordingly next week.
Oh, stop with the “we all know the winner is David A” theory. This guy is a phony and is getting by because for some reason Simon has a man-crush on him.
Now tell me, would you buy a concert ticket to watch him perform for two hours? I sure in the heck wouldn’t. This guy better make it to Broadway, because his musical career as a concert performer is limited. David and yes, I’ll say it, Kristy Cook are the two with the brightest future.
Just one teensy comment. Why don’t the “voice coaches” suggest that everybody sing as if it is they have just been voted off. Is it just me or does everybody seem to sing MUCH better when they are full of REAL emotion?
Finally the bad ones are getting wweeded out. Now if Syesha would just go. This poor girl has yet to sing a complete song in tune. And, David A, has got to go and grow up a little bit, then come back. Then we will have an excellent competition. Kristy Lee has got a very strong voice, very country and will probably have a career in country, although she is not my favorite, she deserves to be there more than Syesha or David A.
YES to lm! I think the voted off idols do sing better at the end. I thought if Ramiele had sung her song like she did last night…the vote off might have ended differently. I have thought that of several of the “final” performances.
Dear NotDorothy. I like Dolly too but what I think happened is that the song was good but Dolly has lost her ability to sing. This happens as you get older. She can still write though and probably ought to stick to that rather than performance.
Final three anyone??? I guess it will be David Cook, Michael Johns (if he keeps going the way he has been) and one other guy…either Jason Castro or David A. I am curious what anyone else has to say about this.
Well I’m not sorry that Ramiele is gone. But enough with all the hugging between her and Kristy!! But I just knew that Brooke couldn’t be going home (not yet) not with the two that was the others up there. But Kristy Lee needs to go hopefully next week. I wish little David A. would sing a real current song (in his age group) something real up and happy and move around on the stage. I love his voice I just wish he would kick it up.
I wish Brooke would sing a Carly Simon song, I think with her voice she would do a good job.
Poor Dolly I really like the lady, but last night that song just wasn’t her.
Ramiele has such great vocals, but does not have stage appearance at all - too immature acting for her age. Always crying for herself
Oh, Mr.likesIdol! I totally agree with you about David A. I guess my sarcasm didn’t show through.
All too often on AI the “winner” is not the best. But, it’s not always bad. Daughtry came in 4th - now he rolls around in his piles of money at night.
Taylor Hicks won. ‘Nuff said.
I only say David A. will win because everyone has a weird crush on him. It’s like he can do no wrong. I don’t know if it’s the tweeners texting in with their pink phones or what. But I would NEVER buy a ticket to see him perform.
And I don’t think he’ll have the most successful career (especially if baseball-cap wearing stage-dad keeps calling the shots), even if he wins.
Too bad the judges didn’t weigh in on Dolly’s performance. As Simon might say: An absolute disaster. I don’t know that dignity has ever been important to Ms. Parton, but she’s in danger of forfeiting it completely.
Brooke’s visit to the Stools of Failure was just a blip. She’s solid for the top four, but I’m revising my prediction that she’d win it all. And yes: Brooke, please shut up after the performance. You’re ruining my crush on you.
I’d like to tell Michael Johns “sexy loving lies” anytime…

AMEN ON THAT ONE SISTA!!!!
Sherry… you asked for our top 3 predictions… I’m going to say David C, Michael J, and David A. I think the two Davids will certainly be there and if Michael somehow doesn’t, I think it will be Jason C in his place.
Does anyone else besides me think that most of the remaining contestants are incredibly talented and will have more post-Idol success than some former Idol winners? (Hicks in particular)
I wasn’t surprised at the results at all. I thought Brooke belonged where she was this week. I didn’t like her version of the song she sang and I agreed with Simon on her this time. I don’t always agree with him. I think Michael Johns and David Cook will the final two. I don’t think any of the girls are as talented as the guys this year! Brooke White is probably the best girl. Kristy Lee’s eye make up drives me crazy and she isn’t one of the most talented people up there…
My top three would be David C, Michael Johns, and either Brooke or Carly. That’s if it remains a talent contest … and not a teeny boppers crush result.
