Take a stool

I wish I could say I was surprised by tonight’s four ousters — Kady Malloy, Asia’h Epperson, Luke Menard and Danny Noriega.

I also wish I could say Paula was behaving a little less badly. Or that Ramiele was sobbing a little less hysterically. Or that Danny hadn’t ripped the cute right out of his cuticles waiting for the bad news.

Luke and Kady were gimmes. Even they knew they were done. Even their relatives, planted nearby to display appropriate levels of shock and outrage, knew they were done.

The most disappointing dismissal of the evening was that of Asia’h Epperson, who failed to light much of a fire with two weeks of so-so performances but whose voice is leagues ahead of both Amanda Overmyer’s and Kristy Lee Cook’s.  Hers was also the most difficult farewell performance to watch. Retitle that song “I Want To Dance With Somebody Who Didn’t Just Ruin My Life By Voting Me Off American Idol Before Amanda Freakin’ Overmyer.”

I’m just a little sorry to see Danny go. His time was coming, and though he clearly wasn’t going to win, at least he was kind of amusing.

We’ll miss him… Ish.

So what do you think? Were the right four sent away? Who’s in trouble next week? And what did you think of Bl-bl-bl-bl-bl u-u-u-UH-UH-ake’s performance?

I was shocked that Danny Noriega went tonight as I was sure he had the Sanjaya contingent with the pink cell phones texting and redialing all night to save him. Glad I was wrong. I was sorry about Asi’ah. Unfortunately, she was the forgettable one but I do not really understand why.

Cristy Lee Cook is beginning to irritate the heck out of me. She can really sing only one song well and that is Amazing Grace. And, if they were going to throw someone off for not covering Whitney well, I would have preferred to see Sayesha go. That girl is entirely too full of herself and her voice.

I knew Luke and Kady were going. Poor Luke just had horrible song choices. But, he chose them so in that sense…its fair.

I LIKE Amanda Overmeyer! I must admit I did a bit of the pink cell phone voting myself for her last night. I like to have the rock component in the broadcast. One more Whitney or Celine cover and I think I will go mad!

I suppose going with the theme that next week will be 90’s week.

Okay maybe not. pffft Danny.. wasnt so cocky last night was he. But you know, after watching the what got him there piece and he didnt have his emo look or was so irritatingly obnoxious and full of himself, he actually looked like a normal kid that could live in our little town. Acted like one too. Wasnt egotistical, maybe a bit characteristic but not like one headed to Juvenile Detention or the psyche ward for cutting. I think if he would have sang that song like he did last night (realistic) instead of the mess on Tuesday (over confident)he may still be here. Closing my eyes and listening did not make me wanna smack him in the face.

Kady… Kady… K.. she is only 18 so I have to take that into account. but.. she still sucks. Omg just watching her pre movie bout made me go back to my high school days when the cheerleaders so full of themselves pretty much asked for a smackin. Can she possibly scream “Put me in a porn movie” any louder????

First let’s talk about Blake’s performance. He absolutely paled in comparison to all of the men this year. I don’t think he would even have outlasted Danny N without singing better than he did last night. I wondered if his ear monitor was working because he seemed pretty tentative with his vocals.

I was surprised that Asia’h was gone before Amanda or Kristy Lee. I’m very interested to see how Amanda performs next week. She’s a mystery right now. Can she sing or not? We shall see. The remaining men should have a fierce competition. Although something in me wonders if little David’s voice is going to hold out.

Tonight’s go-home group didn’t surprised me. In all actuality, American Idol is getting pretty predictable. I agree that Danny, Luke, and Kady should’ve been there, but the rocker/nurse chick should have went instead of Asia’h since this is a SINGING competition. Amanda doesn’t SING - she makes sounds and growls and flails about to cover up for the non singing. Her enunciation is more like Bob Dylan’s or even James Brown (in his latter days) - well, to put it like the line from the Rush Hour movie - “you can’t understand the words that are coming from their mouths!”

Thank goodness Danny N. is out of it - I couldn’t stand watching him another week with his girly expressions.

I would rather Amanda have gone home over Asia’h. The rest were totally predictable and appreciated. Can’t some of those makeup people do something with Christy’s eyebrows…??? They are seriously distracting.

The depths of Dann Noriega’s immaturity has no bounds. Good riddance!

I really thought Syesha should have gone home. I love Amanda, and Carly, and Michael. The rest just don’t cut it. Brooke is easy to listen to, as is David Cook, but the David Archeluta’s voice is just too immature to listen too. I think David Hernandez is too full of himself. I can’t remember the one with the dredlocks, name, but I really like him too. He has a wonderful voice. It is time to have someone like Amanda or Carly win it, as they can really sing and have mature voices.

I really really really like Jason. I always base my “decisions” on who I think I could listen to sing several songs (i.e. like at a concert).

Jason may not sing soul but he has “soul”. I think that is what makes him awkward in interviews but captivating when he sings.

Syesha should have gone. After listening to her sing (second week in a row) about having an illicit love affair…I have to wonder what she does in her spare time.

    Love the blog Denise!

Jason is a stoner hippy. Can’t stand him. I am just waiting for him to roll out on stage in a VW van with flowers painted on the side.

Danny creeps me out. Glad he won’t haunt my dreams any longer.

Amanda is terrible. I don’t think I can elaborate. However, I do think she has a future in biker bars across the country.

Archuletta, Hernandez, Syesha, Brooke and David Cook are the only ones that could make it. Still upset Whitaker is gone. She will do great things.

THAT’S WHAT BEEN MISSING! “SEACREST OUT!” YES, PLEASE BRING IT BACK! DANNY KEPT THINGS INTERESTING, ALTHOUGH HIS FEMININE WAYS GOT TIRING. CAN AMANDA ACTUALLY SMILE? SHE NEVER ACTS LIKE SHE IS AT ALL EXCITED TO BE THERE.

looking at the official am idol forums, it appears there is a sizeable contingent who believe Danny was ousted by the producers and not the voters. I find that hard to believe because I’m pretty sure a lot of people tuned in last year just to see when Sanjaya would be kicked off and Danny provided the Sanjaya factor this year in that you either loved him or hated him. So, I would think producers would want to keep him around awhile for ratings. Seems harsh to *hate* a kid like Danny and I truly don’t. I just hated his singing and attitude. My guess..the combination of his little Merry Christmas video and telling Simon *whatever* led to a bunch of people voting for abd.

I didn’t comment on Blake’s performance. I was never a big fan of his and thought the beat boxing was overrated. I agree that if he were up against this year’s men, he would not have gone as far as he did. But, if people want to buy his records, all power to him. And, I must admit, I never got the Frank Sinatra thing either until he got old and his phrasing started appealing to me. Probably, I’m tone deaf.

I would like to add (not that it will accomplish anything) but I come to realize that the true artist is not the one that can sing (they all could pretty well) but the one that can bring some originality and make the words “live” and touch your heart in the process. It is not about looks nor just a good singing voice nor the desire to have a job singing or to be an Idol with fans as Danny Noriega seemed to want.

Amanda can sing…but she is a poor imitation of Janis Joplin who affected a whole generation with her music and her originality. This is why Amanda will not be a star but Janis was. Her looks nor her raspy voice were particularly desirable…but she had that elusive “something” that drew people to her. She was a true artist.

This is why I like Jason Castro. There is in him an artist. I bet anything that he composes songs and to him it is the expression of an artist.

I think David Archuleta is on that path as well.

When you look at those who are in the final 12…you have to ask yourself…will they affect a generation or are they just another decent singer with a pretty/handsome face.

I’m in nw Ohio where we have just spent two hellacious days in a winter storm/blizzard. On our local FOX station they were showing something called “IDOL REWIND”. I watched the episode with Kimberly Lock belting out “My Heart Will Go On”, Rueben Studdard singing “Kiss and Say Goodbye”, Clay Aiken, Josh (something), Trenyce, Ricky Smith etc. What really struck me was how much better these contestants were. I mean, I remembered the excitement of watching each week and hoping your favorite would make it through another week. I remember feeling angry when one you thought was really good would get voted off and someone else would stay that you thought without a doubt would go. It made me sad to think that during this years competition I have never once cared that much about any of them. I seriously dont think any of them are anywhere near the caliber of entertainers that they have had in the past years. Sigh….

Well, I agree with Sherry about Jason Castro. I know that dreadlocks are equated with dope. Still, I don’t think a stoned person could have delivered that song the other night the way he did. In my experience, stoned persons don’t do three or 4 syllable words well, let alone put together a whole song of them. But..I may be wrong.

I just think David Archuletta is about to blow out his vocal chords again. Does anyone else recall that he blew out a vocal chord at age 14 or something? Maybe its an internet hoax. But..if its true, it certainly backs up my theory of the stage mother from hell. Maybe if he had not been blowing out his chords accosting people in hotel lobbies in season one, he might be even better. He is gifted, I will grant you that. Do you think his mom might have waited two or more years before pushing her 16 year old son into this limelight? I really feel sorry for the guy. Not sorry enough to vote for him, but really…do we need another teen idol?

Monica, I do remember he blew out his vocal chords and I agree that he “sounds” that way. I think that “husky” quality in his voice is a result of his injuries. I have thought it might happen again as well.

But there is a heart in him and he is not afraid to let it show…so I wish him the best.
